When i saw the array of liquor bottles i felt pretty safe ordering a cocktail. All i asked for was a Manhattan. I was told by the bartender that they didn't do cocktails "like that" because they didn't have the ingredients. Not sure what they're making with all the liquor then. Seeing a table tent advertising espresso martinis, i decided to go with something they obviously do. Imagine my surprise when the bartender said she couldn't make that either. Apparently out of those ingredients? Baffled by a bar that doesn't serve basic drinks or even what's advertised. read more

I had great luck finding some awesome spots in Jackson on my last trip....Fondren Public was no different. Sure, the server seemed like she could care less about me...but she wasn't outright rude - just not as attentive as I found everyone else in Jackson to be. Not a huge deal - I'm from Miami originally....ANY customer service is GOOD customer service for me. FP has a GREAT beer list! I was on a mission to try some local brews (drank a lot of Lucky town on this trip) but this time went with the Imperial Red Ale from Prohibition Brewery - it was super solid! I had a pickled plate which came with carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers. It was a great little snack and I imagine getting a few of these for a table - sipping some beers - chatting with friends. And the highlight was the fried cheese - pepper jack cheese, battered and fried with candied bacon and a sweet Tabasco glaze! WOW! A nice kick...a nice sweet/salty flavor...and they were great. Nice size to share for an app! Everything was reasonably priced - and because I was there midweek it wasn't that busy. I hear on the weekends this place gets SLAMMED. I'll be back on another trip to Jackson - and look forward to checking out more of the menu options (yes, you know that means mainly more of the beer options!) read more

This is a cool spot that everyone should try if they're ever in and around Jackson. It's got excellent food, outstanding service, fun games, and a laid back atmosphere and clientele. The pulled pork is amazing, as are the sliders, but it's always fun to see what new creations they have on the menu. They've also got plenty of outdoor space to handle the Covid era, and a full bar with all the drink fixins you could want. Occasionally, they do tap takeovers and bring in a nice variety of brews from out of the area. This place is exceptional. Check it out. read more

Fondren Public has quickly become my favorite bar for hanging out in Jackson. Most of its appeal lies in the space itself-- it's a huge, open plan with tons of seating, big, tall booths, a huge bar and a gorgeous, covered patio area that's heated in the colder months. (Well, this is Jackson, MS, so I should clarify that we only actually have a few weeks of cold per year.) Inside, patrons can play table shuffleboard. Outdoors, cornhole or bocci ball await. The atmosphere is casual and chill but still young and lively. While the crowd can get a bit "bro"-heavy (you know what I mean), it's usually a super interesting and diverse crowd. The bartenders and servers are cool and friendly, and I've never had a negative experience as far as service. There's also televisions throughout the bar, which makes it a great spot for catching the game. I watched a couple World Cup games here as well as some Mississippi football games and it's always a good time. The crowd is super fun, but never rowdy or overbearing. The rare occasion I've seen some sort of conflict arise (which is simply bound to happen every now and then in a bar), FP's security has handled it swiftly, safely and subtly. The drink selections are excellent. With TONS of beers on tap, including plenty of local variety, as well as a great selection of well made cocktails, there's something for everyone to sip on. I haven't tried all of the food selections, but everything I've tried has been delicious. I highly suggest getting a plate of the sliders. The pulled pork is particularly yummy. Just a short walk from everything in Downtown Fondren, Fondren Public is a go-to spot for my friends and I whether we're looking for a casual afternoon drink or a big night out. It's great to see this bar do well for itself because I think they're a fantastic addition to the Jackson scene. read more

Yesterday, my husband and I decided to try Fondren Public. It was 3:47pm on Good Friday, a day when many people were off and the Fondren area was quite busy. As we approached the door, a man walked out. We entered and began walking towards the bar where a female bartender was standing. Did she greet us with a happy greeting? No. She yelled, "sorry, we don't open until 4." Perhaps hipster world doesn't need money or tips, but what should have happened is she explain they aren't open yet, but go ahead and offer service with an explanation she will be continuing to set up. Maybe she's new. Maybe she's not bright. Who knows. We left to go to one of the many other places who actually like money and serving people. No problem. I did decide to let management know by messaging them through social media. Did they apologize profusely? Offer a free drink hoping to regain our business? Nope. Nothing. They did read it as you can tell by the message, but sent no response. If you are looking for a cool place to have a drink with friendly service and folks who are happy to serve you, don't go here. I'd recommend One Block East. They provide service with a smile. Something Fondren Public is far too cool to do. We won't be back. read more

We were here Thursday night with a large party for a wedding related gathering. The bartender was excessively rude to everyone in the bar. He closed the night by yelling at the entire patio, "close your tabs and get out". The concept is really neat but the games definitely need a little TLC. Been here a couple times now. Definitely a great beer bar for Jackson - it was in dire need of one. Good selection of brews and the drinks are decently priced. They do have a full bar but I haven't tried too many mixed drinks yet. Huge place, nice atmosphere, great patio and lots of bar games. There's tons of seating so even though the bar can get crowded, from what I've seen there's usually a chance you can still find a place to sit. Service has also been attentive and friendly. My only qualm with the place is that the bar food is extremely mediocre for the price. I've tried a number of things on the list, from the chicken and waffle taco, the BLT, truffle dip, fried cheese, homemade potato chips with pork and the fried chicken skewers. The only things that haven't been disappointing are the fried cheese and chicken skewers. The sliders look decent but I haven't tried those yet. Everything else seems like it would be good but the quality is poor and it's very noticeable that they skimp on ingredients as much as possible, yet the dishes are priced like you would expect gourmet bar food. I know it's a new place so hopefully the quality of the food will eventually reflect the price point. Anyhow, I will definitely be a returning customer. My phone had no data so I was searching for this place high & low. I walked around the immediate blocks several times without avail, I asked a guy for this place & what he told me was convoluted. Finally I walked down Old Canton Rd. & found this place in a corner. They have lots of local MS & LA beers on tap such as Crooked Letter, Lucky Town, Yalobusha, etc. I was the only one there in an afternoon but a lot more people came in later. The guy with British or Southern accent (can't tell) was cool. They will fill your growler off their taps too, where MS is more advanced than CA here. I went here for my birthday celebration and I had a lot of fun! Don't let the fact that the building is "ducked off" a.k.a (a little hidden) fool you. It is much bigger inside! They have 4 areas where you can hang at (the bar, two side rooms and the patio). Bartenders are really nice and the drinks are good as well! Even though I love a strong drink it was a good in-between of strong and tasteful. We decided to sit on the patio where there is smoking allowed and games! They also have board games if all the active games are being used. I'm giving them a four star rating because I wasn't able to try their food. We arrived at 11:45pm and the kitchen was closed. Also, something that I always commend .. they have clean bathrooms! They have security guards there which I liked because of safety reasons. The staff was friendly, and very attentive, even during a packed house. The food is not world-class quality but it's unique and you get what you pay for; I was happy. Fondren Public is our go-to spot for late night drinks in Jackson. They have a really good selection of craft beer and their Cathead Honeysuckle Moscow Mules are amazing! The atmosphere is fantastic, but on a busy weekend night it can be very loud. This coupled with nearly constant over-sized Jenga blocks colliding to the concrete ground can make it difficult to carry on a conversation. However, it is super nice to have the option to go play corn hole or bocce ball away from the crowd. We also love shuffle board and the collection of board games available inside! read more

I had my husband's birthday party in Fondren Public's new event space -- they were fabulous! Jenifer Simcox, the events coordinator, helped me with the menu and she was always available to answer any questions I had. We had 60 or so people and the space was just perfect, very clean, 4-top tables so people could sit down, separate bar, with anything you might want, and the food was just great! The pulled pork and BLT sliders were a big hit; the pickled vegetables were delicious, and same for the cheese spreads and the white bean hummus which all were served with pita and red pepper strips, cucumbers, cauliflower. I recommend Fondren Public for your next event -- the people, beer, wine, and liquor selection, and the food, could not have been any better! read more

Amazing draft wall with so many choices. The staff is great and very nice. I love spending my weekend nights here because the prices are moderate and I can play corn hole or bocce ball. They make sure to incorporate local breweries and have local events there. Was driving from NC to New Orleans back in early May and this place came up when I Googled to find a place to get a drink in Jackson. We were glad it did. My buddy and I had a couple of pints at the bar, and the selection was absolutely top-notch. If I hadn't gone in search of the restroom, I wouldn't have even noticed the extra seating, patio, or games - we were just there to sit at the bar - but, it looked like a great place to hang out if you're a local or have more time. Note to the owners - we poked our heads in at 11am on a Saturday because our car was still on eastern time and we thought it was really noon. Turns out the bar opened at 11, and not at noon, as the website said. We pointed this out to the guys who were working, but as of today, your website still shows your Saturday hours starting at noon. read more
