While staying in Minneapolis, I stopped into a close-by Walgreens to get a few items. I have alway seen locations in downtowns and this one was right around the corner from where I was staying. I am always pleased when I am properly greeted when I walk through the door. I am especially happy when a clerk or cashier look up from what they are doing to acknowledge a customer walking through the door. This store, like other Walgreens is big and bright with clean isles to navigate through. This incredibly delightful staff was over the top in greetings. Happy to see a customer. Happy to help a customer. Happy to speak with a customer. I needed a few items ranging from water to shaving cream. They had plenty of items to choose from and I pleased that their house brand is a substantially reduced price and the same item. Check out went very quickly and I received the same cordial greeting as I left as when I came in. The team member behind the counter just personified the model employee of engagement, spreading happiness and loving to be able to help. Kudos to a wonderful team here at Walgreens.

This time, I was visiting in a different capacity--picking up an order for DoorDash, which I do part-time. I walked in and waited for about four minutes without being greeted. Finally, a young gentleman approached me, and I simply said, "Thank you for acknowledging me." Instead of a standard customer service response, he shot back, "You could have said something also." I was caught off guard, as I have never been anywhere where the person walking in is expected to initiate the greeting to get help from the staff. He then began to insult me. Admittedly, this led to some back-and-forth between us, so I will own my part in the argument. However, he went out of his way to make sure I knew I "was not a customer" and continuously demeaned me. When he finally handed over the order, he sneered, "Go and deliver your food, delivery man." His coworkers just sat there in silence the entire time. This employee was extremely rude, lacked basic decency, and intentionally tried to make me feel low simply for being a gig worker. It should not matter what capacity someone is visiting the store in; basic respect should be a given. Word of mouth goes a long way, and this experience reflects terribly on a business I used to champion.

We are talking about single sale apples that are located in the cold fridge section that is exposed to the regular temperature air. When I arrived, there was one person in front of me at the pharmacy register. I waited patiently. As soon as that customer was finished, the pharmacy technician told me they were closing for lunch. I explained that I had just received a notification from Walgreens to pick up my prescription, and there was no mention in either message that the pharmacy would be closed between 1:30 and 2:00 PM. Her response? "It's Saturday," said with a dismissive tone, as if I was supposed to know their lunch schedule. Then, right in front of me, she shut the pharmacy gate in my face while two other staff stood aside doing nothing. Not a single person made an effort to help--despite Walgreens being the one to ask me to come pick up my prescription. This was my first time at this location--and will definitely be my last. If this is how Walgreens treats its customers, I'll be taking my prescriptions elsewhere. It would've taken less than a minute to hand me my medication before closing. Instead, they chose to be rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional.
