I clicked next, and sure enough, there was one: a 60-minute Intro to DJing session with Devon at Washburn Studios In that hour, Devon walked me through turntables and mixers, and by the end I was mixing two songs together. I had so much fun that I signed up for the full DJ program. Classes are self-paced, which made it easy to fit around a full-time job, and I finished in about a year. When Washburn launched its DJ collective, I applied, and I've been playing live with them ever since. Now I'm back as a student in the music production program. What really sets Washburn apart is the community. Everyone has been kind and supportive at every step. Washburn came into my life during a rough stretch and helped me find something I truly love. Looking back, I feel like a completely different person from the one who found Devon through Blueboard. I've struggled with speaking up and presenting at work, and playing live has given me confidence that carries into my professional life. In addition, I never imagined I'd be DJing in San Francisco clubs. With DJing and production the learning never stops, and Washburn gives you the support and structure to keep growing. Washburn DJs are resilient and we exit the program with a robust skillset of mixing techniques. The program teaches you to think critically about the mechanics of mixing, especially the "WHY" behind when you would want to employ a certain technique in a certain situation. Devon and his coaches are dedicated and committed to your growth. Devon in particular is willing to get you as far as you want to go, if you are willing to put in the work. I started as a complete newbie. Now I'm playing regularly at various bars, lounges, venues. This Saturday I am playing at Halcyon, for example. I am always learning new things from Devon. I spent a few hours with Chris in his Oakland studio and learned so much during that time. It was one of the most informative sessions I've had since I started making music! Chris shared numerous different techniques and workflow tips with me while making suggestions and helping refine my track. It's clear that he's an expert in Ableton, but is also generous in sharing his knowledge. After our in-person session, we collaborated for another week or so via phone/e-mail through the mastering process. Throughout this process, he was thorough, patient, and gave invaluable feedback and recommendations - all while communicating effectively. Something I really appreciate about working with Chris is that he makes suggestions and gives honest feedback, but also makes sure that he respects the original vision for what the track should sound like. We booked REB6Studios for our wedding because after watching their films you can tell they have everything you'd want in a wedding video: all the emotional and fun moments captured with amazing cinematography, perfect music and tearjerking storytelling. We received our wedding video earlier than expected and it blew us away. All the shots were beautiful, carefully put together with many details weaved into the film. REB6Studios even incorporated audio from the speeches, and the bride and groom letter readings from before the ceremony. They included many heartfelt stories from our night, such as the emotional moments mentioned in those speeches and letters.
