Hands down the best studio sessions I have ever had in my music career. Chris is a pro of pros and his knowledge breadth when it comes to engineering shows in the velocity, tact and results he takes with studio projects. Originally came into contact with the studio last minute when I needed a rehearsal space for a project before a show. We were able to book the live room for a warm up set and were heavily impressed by his background and the studio equipment. We came back to record a live set with Chris last weekend for about 5 hours after getting a very competitive quote. I've worked with engineers before that needed multiple hours with several engineers to do what Chris was able to do in a little over an hour to get us 100% setup and ready to play. After the session we took our stem files and now have what we need to mix and master our album. Chris even gave us a rough bare mix export of the sessions to use as reference, and even though he says it's a 'rough mix,' it's straight up better quality than some professional mixes I've heard. There were no surprise costs, we got everything done in the afternoon we booked, and Chris hustled with extreme respect to our time. If you're in the Bay and shopping for a partner for a studio project, you'd be wasting your money going anywhere else because you won't find a better setup than Nexus for the price and quality. read more

I was recording in the same complex as this studio, but had not known any of them. The guy I was recording with introduced me to Chris Paxton as the person who I should be sending my tracks and full album to for mixing and mastering. So, I did. In this process, I realized not only the level of expertise, but the true desire to have the artist he works with are nothing less than exhilarated about their finished product. No matter how many minor tweaks I told him I needed (even post mastering), he never complained, but had it to me as quickly as possible. No matter how many different versions I needed for performances and final mastering, he had them done. If I wanted a certain sound or wasn't quite getting the effect I wanted, never once did he say he couldn't do it. If worked until it was right and found/learned ways to get it done. And never once did he make me inferior or dumb for not knowing the correct terminology when explaining what it is that I wanted or needed for the songs. Due to the level of professionalism, and enjoyment (great personalities and easy to work with) and satisfaction (quality of work and finished product) working with Chris and his associate, Don Reynolds, so much that I decided to continue my recording with them at their studio, Nexus Audio. Nexus Audio has extremely fair prices for not just the quality of their work, but the level of service they offer their clients. I would recommend these guys and this studio to ANYONE. I play in a band with a unique concept--multilingual garage lounge. We needed a studio that brought all their tricks to the table and Nexus didn't disappoint. Nick the weekend engineer was friendly and enthusiastic, and was open to exploring the unusual difference between our material (old 1960s bossa nova and ye-ye 45's) and our approach (loud, punky and garagey with soul-influenced vocals in 5 languages). He also managed to put down and mix 8 songs in 8 hours which is probably some kind of record. We're just a duo with one vocalist and two instruments, and we wanted a rough garagey sound, so that probably helped! Nexus Audio has served my needs as an active musician. I've recorded three projects here over the past nine years, and every time I do a new project, something has improved in the studio. I've always had a great experience with Chris Paxton, their Head Engineer, as well as the other engineers Don and Anthony, and artists I've shared space with. They are not hobbyists, but professionals with educational backgrounds in audio engineering. I've seen Nexus Audio grow from a fledgling studio, to a high end professional studio with top quality gear and a flair for creating wonderful music. Chris has a fantastic ear for engineering and from a producing standpoint, will help guide your sound to be the best it possibly can be. All of the engineers have always accommodated my schedule and been available at odd hours on all days of the week. I play mostly progressive rock music but utilize a lot of acoustic guitar, and been very pleased with my recordings. The engineers are always trying new and innovative ways to capture the right sound. I've seen a lot of other types of music in there as well including some big name hip-hop/rap/R&B and jazz, indie rock, country to name a few. The talent and resources here can work with many types of music. As with any studio, the better prepared you are before you come in, the better the quality of product you will create. I do highly recommend trying to block off as much time as possibly in succession to keep your project fresh and flowing. Make sure you can secure enough time for your project as you'll get a better result. I can't emphasis this enough. Prices are within market demand based on the equipment, service, and facilities provided. There is a lounge, and kitchen available.
