I was having an issue with my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan leaking coolant in the rear passenger heater/AC area. This has been a common Achilles heel of these vans since early 2000s, because the rear coolant lines either rust out (in the steel sections) or burn/rot out (in the rubber sections). The close proximity to the hot muffler doesn't help either and can make the repair job expensive since the entire exhaust may need to be removed in order to replace the lines. I bought the van in November and only use it on the weekends. At first the leak was little. However after last weekend, I lost 2 quarts of coolant and could smell it after parking it. So why did I take a coolant leak issue to a shop known for exhaust systems? It was by absolute chance. Back in July, the Dodge Dealer in Redlands, wanted to replace the entire assembly of the rear coolant lines for about 4x the work (and price) that FMS ended up doing the job for. When the leak got bad this past weekend, I decided to take it to a radiator shop. I checked Yelp and found Bob's Radiator Shop in San Bernardino. I met Gary there and he told me that I should go down to FMS Performance since they deal with this kind of stuff. So I drove a few more miles to their shop, which is located across the street from the SB Metrolink and Amtrack Stations. I was very impressed at the cleanliness, and friendliness of this shop. Matt, the manager, was extremely helpful and friendly. He put the van on the lift right away while diagnosing it with his technician. 5 minutes later, he printed out an estimate. I was so happy since they only needed to replace the rubber section where the coolant lines transition to the steel lines. On top of that, he added a heat shield in order to help prevent the replacement rubber lines from burning since it's super close to the exhaust. I waited under two hours and the job was done! No more leaks, and no more stinky burnt coolant odors after driving it. I would HIGHLY recommend these guys to anyone in need of fixing the same issue that I experienced with my DGC, or with any other work related to mufflers, brakes, shocks, struts, etc. Give them a call or stop in. The owner took the time to follow up with me to ensure I was still satisfied with the work. Many times, we as customers prematurely give companies high ratings because from face value it appeared you got the best service. However, a few days later you discover you were tricked and now it is too late to change the "star" ratings because you have already submitted the stars reflecting good upon the company. Great experience here! The owner was a great and honest. Volkswagen said it would cost $750 to fix my car heater & replace all the items needed and remove the dashboard. The bulk of the cost would have been labor. Having spend $738 on other car repairs, I assumed I could manage another California winter with clothes and blankets in my car, but that wasn't the case. I contacted FMS and got in the same day. The owner told me that there was a clog and they would try flushing that out first, which was successful. FMS installed a header and full exhaust system on my 2006 Charger when my car was new and I have visited them twice, once to correct an exhaust leak caused by a factory defect in the headers and just recently to correct an issue with rattling caused by the dealer when installing the fuel tank due to a factory recall.
