Showed up without a reservation but got lucky and someone has skipped theirs. Great food! Great service! We split a couple of dishes and had drinks. Not sure that the kids would enjoy it. Really cool place. Trendy vibe. The bartender/server at the bar was fantastic. Super attentive and the drinks were phenomenal. The food is off the beaten path, but very good. Small dishes so got 3 to share. Chicken fried cauliflower, arancini, and the heirloom tomatoes. Very pretty to look at and good flavor. The arancini was certainly my least favorite. The outside was in my opinion a bit dark so there wasn't a whole lot of flavor to taste. The acoustics aren't great inside. If you are with someone hard of hearing it's not a good fit. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at Flyover. When we arrived the wait time was over an hour, I wasn't sure if we should try to get seated. I'm so glad we stayed. I started off with a nice bourbon cocktail, it was smoky and savory and sweet. Topped off with a luxardo cherry, the perfect garnish. We ordered the pot roast, midwest carnitas, chicken fried cauliflower, fried catfish and poutine. The layers of flavors were so intense and complimentary. I could literally eat here everyday and never tire of the menu. We were so stuffed that we didn't have room for dessert. But on my next visit I'll definitely save room for dessert. read more

Wow , The thought and the detail that goes in to each dish was wonderful. Really feel the love. Everything is so fresh and you can tell how the chef owner makes sure everything is perfect. Started with crawfish cooked in a cream sauce with chopped parsley and lavash toasted by the wood burning oven. The duck was crispy on the outside and medium so moist with hosin and I believe an orange rind sauce we tried the cauliflower chicken was crispy in the out side and served with goat cheese on top of a sweet potato purée sprinkled with the very sweet and tender pea pod shoots. read more

Well, we were able to come back, and I'm still just as enthralled with Flyover! This time we splurged on the famous Mac and Cheese we enjoyed so much last time, and a scrumptious pizza with tangy apples and Gouda cheese, Lord have mercy, sooo yummy! What an amazing experience. I'm vegan, and if you look at the menu there are no vegan items. I called a few days ahead (and a couple times in-between-well because that's just how I roll) and ensured they would be able to accommodate my diet. I also avoid gluten. The chef went ABOVE and BEYOND! He made me a local veggie salad and it did not disappoint! It was beautifully plated as an extra bonus! Not to even mention he brought it to me and went over this dish in detail. The cocktails were amazing too! We dined out on the patio and it was perfect. They practice all safe measures and go above and beyond. So thankful for amazing restaurants like this. I will return!!! read more

Came here with some friends bc I saw they had an outdoor patio. None of the pictures I saw online does the patio justice though! It's a charming, well-decorated patio with string lights. Lively scene too. For food, we ordered the lamb meatball dish, a Greek-styled chicken and potatoes dish (forget name), and both of the pizzas. Idk how I slipped up this bad but I only got a picture of one pizza. ALL four dishes were great though and I'd have each one again. I got a Negroni in honor of emma d'arcy, rightful ruler of the seven kingdoms, and that was nice as well. Moscow Mule was eh. Overall, a lovely place for dinner with friends or date. read more

I was very excited to try Flyover. It's been on my list of places to try in Columbia for awhile now, however I was a bit disappointed. First, it was very expensive for the small portions you get. I went with a friend, we shared 2 dishes, but we were still starving after and stopped at Freddy's for ice cream and cheeseburgers on the way home. We wanted to order more, but neither of us ~love~ meat and the whole menu was filled with meat options. We tried to make modifications, but they were not accommodating. I would like to come back here again when their menu looks more appealing and vegetarian friendly, but my first experience here was not a great one. read more

Flyover is our new favorite restaurant in Columbia! It came highly recommended by numerous COMO natives and it did not disappoint. The menu rotates frequently but the soft pretzels and the midwestern carnitas are always offered. We couldn't pass up the crowd favorite carnitas and honestly it was the most satisfying dish. A mix of sweet, smoky, and savory flavors. I wish we would've ordered two so that I wouldn't have had to share! It all worked out okay because we split the chicken and waffles which came with perfectly crispy chicken on top of a fluffy Belgian waffle. The Chile and brown sugar marmalade and the rosemary butter really made it something special. This is definitely a place to get a few things to share so that you can really enjoy all of the flavors! read more

Only one bizarre complaint... Flyover's food is consistently wonderful! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sitting at the bar is always enjoyable although our bartender, while efficient, was not as friendly or engaging as we've experienced with others on past visits.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bizarre complaint was due to something we've never experienced anywhere ever before - we were charged $4 for ice!!!!!!! The bartender asked if I wanted small or large ice for my two manhattans, to which I responded "large". Apparently that request triggered a $2 per cube charge! Why would the owners of such a great neighborhood spot feel the need to risk customer dissatisfaction over adding such a ridiculous charge? Bizarre! read more

I really thought I'd reviewed this spot before, but apparently I haven't so here it goes. I find myself traveling around missouri (and parts of Illinois) a bit for work, and Flyover has become one of my favorite stops on my route. Each meal I've had there (or, sometimes, on the go) has felt like each ingredient was chosen with intention, and has all come together beautifully. On my last visit, I tried the Bangkok pizza (after being swayed by the chef when trying to choose between a few yummy looking options), and found it delightful. I do occasionally wish they'd had a wider variety of protein options (I don't eat pork, and had to skip Flyover for Barred Owl on my last visit because so many of their options weren't for me), but not enough to dock my love (or my stars!) for them. read more

Dined with a Nashville area chef, their description of the meal was "really upscale fast food". Atmosphere is nice, very clean. Layout is great if you want to listen to the neighboring table. We had an amazing evening. The wait was long for our large group, but definitely worth it! The staff happily accommodated our group and recommended approximately 2 more dishes than the number of people. The restaurant has a nice menu, not too big and loaded with diversity. It is encouraged to be a "small plate" bite and pass situation which worked well for us, but, if that's not your cup of tea, everything we ordered we felt could have been an individual meal with no complaint. We tried the pretzels, margarita pizza, Mac and cheese, chicken and waffles, chicken fried steak, a Campanell pasta dish, and the carnitas Not one complaint in the house! We also indulged in a multitude of thoughtfully curated cocktails, including 1 "off the menu" item called the aviation. Options are available for everyone's taste. As an out-of-Towner I was VERY impressed with all aspects of the restaurant (aesthetics, atmosphere, attentive staff, etc) and will definitely be back on our short trips to Como. read more

This is not quite the place I needed--I wouldn't recommend that you come here by yourself. The dishes are not really geared to that (they're too big to get more than one, but they're also not a very balanced dinner all by themselves). I'll maybe come back when I have others with me and enjoy it more. I got the wedge salad, which had a nice mix of ingredients like lots of blue cheese, lightly pickled cucumbers, and pistachios. I thought it would have benefited from having at least one warm ingredient, like if the pistachios were freshly toasted or something. It was still good, though. I liked the Silver Fizz. I discovered that part of the bar is treated like table service, so the result is rather strange. You feel completely ignored by the bar staff, which is pretty weird, I have to say. I wasn't a big fan of that vibe at all, although my waiter was good. Again, it's just not a great vibe for a lone diner. Also, they definitely were trying to get everyone out of there by 10:30 on a Friday, so the closing time of 1 is pretty darn optimistic, if you ask me. Anyway, now that I know what to expect, maybe I'll enjoy it more next time if I bring company with me. read more

Just. Freaking. Wow. Walked in not knowing what to expect, other than it has a good yelp rating. Smaller than I expected, it's intimate, rustic but maintains a light vibe. The menu is unconventional - think of it as American tapas, perhaps. No courses per se, just a broad selection of small plates designed to be shared. They come out as they are ready, not in particular courses. Then there's the food. Honestly, the Mac n cheese might be one of the best things I've ever eaten. The meatballs are very good, I'd describe the sauce as sort of sweet and sour. The carnitas are fabulous, with the puréed sweet potatoes really adding the signature to the dish. The pretzels and cheese sauce are utterly fantastic, complementing each other in perfect harmony. Also worth noting, several of the house specialty cocktails use a particular premium whiskey from Kansas City which is quite good - I highly recommend. If you haven't been, you should do yourself a favor and go. And with a menu that changes weekly, even if you have been, go again! read more

We were heading to Murrys and it was an hour wait. As we left we saw Flyover and decided to try it. This is the best place we have dined in Columbia while I son has been going to Mizzou! I don't drink, but those who do that were with me seemed to have really enjoyed their unique mixes. There's a couple nonalcoholic options. Service was also good. So how this place works is that it's closer to a tapas kind of idea...you get a few menu items and they're meant to be shared. I mean, if you don't want to that's cool too, but it's nice to try different things. Four of us got the pretzels, mac n cheese, roasted chicken, fried cauliflower, and burrata caprese. All were really good. Great quality and taste for sure. The chicken was a little bit on the salty side, but that may be my personal preference. All of that was a fairly good amount for all of us. OMG! I am from Dallas, Texas and have yet to be "wowed" by the restaurants in CoMo. I walked into Murry's and walked-out, it is dark and unimpressive, despite the crowds. I went across the street to "Flyover". The atmosphere and sophisticated menu are the best in town! I don't take time to write reviews, but this place puts Columbia on the "foodie-map." I started with a signature cocktail, "the botanical", a new spin on a gin and tonic with cucumber, five stars! I tried the "two ways tomatoes" and "chicken fried cauliflower." Absolutely incredible flavors. I'm coming back to town in September and it's at the top of my list! Thank goodness, my son will be here for four years. We will too!! read more
