For many years, the higher end of the restaurant scene has been occupied by the same few places. CC Broiler, Murray's, Chris McD's , etc. And over the years they all fell into a kind of a rut. Unchanging menus, autopilot service, certainty in the fact that it's always going to be the same. And the patrons have acquired a "mcdonald's" mentality. Why experiment? Just head over to CC's and get Gary's Ribeye. Well, that's all over. Flyover is here and it has brought a fresh concept and equally fresh, local food. Clearly, the chef is inspired and the food comes out excellent. An instant favorite. It can stand up to some of the best restaurants in San Francisco. We sampled Fried Chicken, Meatballs, Spinach salad, and Wedge salad. All were syperbly executed and original in their preparation and taste. This is a brand new place, so the service is a bit spotty. Also the tables are placed at San Francisco's distance from each other. Too close for my taste. Lastly, they have also adopted that ridiculous stance of "no reservations" that CC prides itself on. I hope they will reconsider. You are an excellent restaurant. Act like one. But overall, what a great addition!! Highly recommended. PS. Everyone working at the flyover is so nice! My friends and I eat and drink here after work all the time (our favorite spot) Every dish is AMAZING! I can't get enough of the tapas style. Plus there's always something new to try! Wait staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Menu is limited since it is tapas and selections are tasty, but average in amount of food to "share". It would be a fun place for a group of 6 to 8, and the atmosphere is fantastic. Just not the value in dining for a party of 2. read more

Absolutely amazing - worth the money and the wait. I've gone to school in Columbia for the past 5 years and I don't know how I've just now heard of this place!! Don't listen to the bad reviews, those people clearly don't understand basic restaurant rules or don't have a mature enough palate to appreciate the delicious hand crafted food. This was the best food I've ever had in my entire life - don't go here if all you eat it pizza and french fries. This place is meant for people that truly want to try delicious, gourmet foods that experiment with wonderful flavors. People on here are complaining about portion sizes, but for the amount they give you and for the price, it's incredible. The plates are intended to be shared family style - hence why you order multiple dishes. In a large city serving farm to table, you wouldn't even get half as much for double the price. I'm from St. Louis and you couldn't find anything like this within the price range. The food is also rich - you should be plenty good with taking a few scoops from each dish - I was VERY full by the end of the meal. The Duck is unbelievable as well as the Crawfish Etouffee. This is a great place to go. We were a group of 5. When we got there on Wednesday night, the restaurant was quite busy. We waited for about 45 minutes to get seated. But, it was worth the wait. The front desk lady was nice and keep us updated on table availability status. This place was impressive and exceed my expectation. The drink was good and the food was great as well. The food was meant to be shared among your group. I suggest going to Flyover with a group of no more than 6. We had the simple salad, the steak fillet, the duck, the meatball, the Italian sausage pizza, mac and cheese( much better than what you expect from mac and cheese), and the ice cream over hot pie (delicious!). I highly recommend to try Flyover. This has move up to the top of my list as a place to hang out with my close friends in CoMo. read more

YES, so much YES. This is one of those rare places where I will wait however long it takes to get in because the atmosphere and food are just that good. Is it cheap? Heck no. Is it worth every cent? heck yeah. I could live off of the pretzels and Boursin cheese dip alone. Our first visit to Flyover tonight. We were invited out by friends and have to admit we were a bit dubious. Turned out we enjoyed it a great deal. We each ordered a dish and shared. We all liked each dish. We shared our dessert as well. It was fine, just not quite as good as the other food. Chef only makes 1 type of dessert each night. Food was attractively presented and our server was super nice. He obviously tries each dish and knows the menu. We will definitely go back and introduce some other friends to it. read more

This place has easily become my favorite date spot. The food is incredible, and the way the bartender makes drinks is an art. The Chicken Fried Cauliflower is unique with random ingredients you'd never think of combining, but it all works perfectly. The only down side is the wait time. This was my first time at Flyover and I had heard mixed reviews. I was totally blown away. We had the catfish and the corned beef pizza and everything was not only fabulous tasting, but attractive also. They paired different ingredients together that worked to perfection. My boyfriend and I came here for a date night, and to our surprise it was an adorable atmosphere. I liked how there were no TVs, so you really got to enjoy the present moment with the people you were with. Everyone seemed in good spirits, and we sat at the bar after waiting for about 30 minutes. The wait is worth it! The bartenders were so fun to watch, and since they didn't have mint to make a mojito, he improvised with basil! I was skeptical, but it was so good! My boyfriend wish he had ordered it! He grabbed an Old Fashion though and had no complaints. We ordered the Fried Cauliflower and Soft Pretzels for an appetizers, even though they technically don't have appetizers. We kept on waiting for our entrees for about an hour, then we asked if they were almost out! The bartender got confused and thought we were going to tell him when to put them in. We didn't mind too much because we had time, but it was still a little bit frustrating. Our food came out hot and my Gyro Pizza and his Country Fried Steak was awesome! This is definitely a nicer restaurant, and that is reflected in the prices. I can't wait to come back, but I hopefully will have to wait less for the food. read more

Had to give it a try but it was not as impressive as expected. Portion of dishes is mid size so you need to order three dishes for two. Can't say food tasted good but interesting. Heard they have a good wine list but we don't drink. Not many tables in the restaurant so there is always a line waiting for table. It might be good for a late dinner. read more

Well, we Yelped this place and it sounded good. We were meeting friends and got there early like reviewers recommended. We were prepared to drop a bunch of money on food and drinks. When we arrived they wouldn't give up a table even though THE RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY.! No customers at all. They wouldn't seat us until our friends arrived and there are only a couple of tables for four in the whole place. We asked them to make an exception and they wouldn't. They said we could have a drink at the bar while we waited. We told them we would start spending money when they gave us a table but they refused. Terrible customer service. And bad attitude on part of the hostess, real condescending. The chef tried to intercede but we went to Murray's across the street and had a great meal which we enjoyed thoroughly. Maybe the food is great but the drinks looked like low pour, especially the wine. And one of the reasons we go out is to be treated well. This did not happen here. Never going there again. Go to Murray's across the street. Much better and excellent service. And Murray's was packed unlike this place. read more

Their cocktails are as good as any that I have tasted in New York and San Francisco. Definitely big league. Their cocktail list changes frequently. Definitely the best cocktails in Mid Missouri by a wide margin. This is a small to medium size plates restaurant. Not just an entree and two sides. We took a break from biking the Katy Trail and decided to drive into Columbia to eat. We found this place by searching online and it sounded interesting. After some misdirection by our GPS we found it. The place was crowded and we ate at the bar. The meals are all small plates ($10-$15) and intended for sharing (like splitting appetizers) and it was fun visiting with others at the bar regarding their orders. We ordered a Marguerite Pizza, the Duck Breast, and Crayfish SOS. The pizza was as expected (but I prefer even more basil even though they had a respectable amount). The duck was FANTASTIC! It was smothered in a wonderful sauce of stone ground white cheddar grits, sweet pickled shallots, and a cranberry pecan pesto. After these we ordered the crayfish dish. I ordered crayfish once before in my life and was unimpressed but this was amazing. The little crayfish bites were tasty and numerous. Again, the sauce was what took it over the top. It was a creamy sauce that included mushrooms, carmelized onions, tarragon, ale, baby kale, and flatbread bites. The bartenders were serving lots of fun to watch drinks-- many gin based and some they lit up. What a find. It's run by a couple of millennials who are into local ingredients, Midwestern foods, and interesting/classy dishes and drinks. It was good to see such a place be busy on a Tuesday night. Bartender took care of us and only ended up being about 30 minutes. Service was great from start to finish. However, plates came out very fast after you ordered, so if you're looking for a longer meal, order one dish at a time. went on friday night and was able to get a table for two in 15 minutes, the menu chnages daily I was told, we had cocktails and they were excellent, the cauliflower dish was great and so was the Gnocchi, mahi mahi was also greta, the portion sizes are small so we had three entrees for two people along with the soup/salad. will go back again! read more

This is a great little place. We've eaten here twice now and both times the meals were fantastic. The menu is ever changing, so it really won't be too helpful to go into details of what we ate. They don't have a large menu, but that's okay, there's still a nice variety of small plates to share. Something for everyone. Besides, I'm not a fan of super huge menu's. Staff-professionals. Friendly, and always there, but not hovering. Price is so/so, but reasonable for the quality and service. Tip-GO EARLY. Our first visit we got very lucky and only had a very short wait. We've gone back several times only to be turned away by a long wait. This last time, we arrived about 10 minutes before opening....and there was still a line! But, we were seated quickly. It was very cold outside, so lucky they opened about 5 minutes early!! Thank you!! It's not overly large inside, some 2-4 people seating and also seating at the bar. They're creating their own demand. Smart business. A nice bar, again, not an ever expansive selection, but enough of what anyone would want. read more
