After running into motorcycle problems and not being able to move my bike! I looked for a mobile MC tech. I got in touch with Chris, owner of Flying Wrenches Mobile Repairs and even though I was to far away from his mobile service area, he put me in contact with someone he trusted who did end up doing the repairs on my bike. The fact that Chris took the time to analyze my bike over the phone knowing he wasn't going to make any money and gave me someone to call was life saving or at least bike saving. There's no doubt this other Tech came because of Chris. After telling me he was swamped with work I mentioned he was recommended by Chris and he moved things around and came and repaired my bike. I found Chris on Yelp and I am so happy that I did! I live in West Austin and I purchased my 2017 Polaris Ranger 900 from a shop about two hours from where I live. I just hit 25 hours and figured that I should probably perform an oil change service but I didn't want to rent a trailer and take it to a local shop so I turned to Yelp to see if I could find a mobile mechanic who could help me! Surprisingly I only found one but once I spoke with Chris about his services I was really happy. I sent Chris an email on his web site and he responded very quickly and while I needed an oil change I also had him install a 3" lift kit, 2" wheel spacers, new LED switches, and a cool LED whip. I was so happy with the results and Chris was a total pro and also helped me fix a couple other issues that I noticed with the vehicle. My 97 Magna had been idle for 3 years and was really close to becoming a "parts bike" as it wouldn't start without considerable work to repair a fuel leak, and rebuild and tune the carbs. After completing the web form, Chris contacted me the next day and picked the bike a few days later. Chris was able to make the needed repairs in a timely manner, and my former "parts bike" has been resurrected, runs like it did the day I bought it some 22 years ago. I needed someone (still do) to help get my motorcycle running after sitting for a long while. I called and emailed Flying Wrenches, and got a call back the next day from Chris with a promise to call me the next week when he was less busy. Next week came and went with no contact from Chris. I contacted him again the following week, and he made an appointment to meet me at my house on the Friday of that week. You guessed it, Friday came and went with no Chris, no call, no email... nothing. He's never contacted me since (its' been like three weeks now), and I'm pretty disappointed, given all the glowing reviews of his actual service. I'm always amazed when business owners don't return calls or make promises they can't keep. In this case, having to drag my non-running bike to a shop is a major hassle, so a home-visit mechanic is just what I need. Apparently I need a different one than Flying Wrenches tho..... I guess the lesson is that if you can actually get Chris to come to work on your bike, he'll do a great job. The trick is getting him to show up. read more

I've had two great experiences with Chris so far and highly recommend him for all your motorcycle mechanical needs! First,I had a broken bolt in my motorcycle's exhaust header due to the previous owner not using anti-seize and could not get it out for the life me. A call to Chris and he stopped by to check it out. He couldn't do anything for me at my garage, but he took the bike with him and said he'd try his best. Sadly, the bolt was some kind of hardened steel and it had to go to a local welder. To my utter amazement Chris took care of everything and didn't charge me a dime; he bought the tools to try and get the bolt out, dropped it off at the shop and let me know what the deal was; color me impressed. A few weeks later I couldn't get this motorcycle to start, and it turns out I had stupidly miswired some things. Chris sorted it all out at a fair price. Once again my bike sat too long and needed a carb clean, new battery, and a few other minor things. I really didn't want to have to tow my bike in to a shop, so I decided to try Flying Wrenches. I made a call and Chris called me back a few hours later. We managed to schedule an appointment for the next day, and he gave me a clear window of when he would be here. He even called 20 mins before arriving to let me know how close he was. Once here Chris went straight to work, I was impressed with how fast he was. His mobile repair trailer seemed to have everything he'd need. My bike had been parked in the garage for quite a few months. In the end he cleaned/repaired my carb Removed some hazardous material which he showed how easy it was to spark a fire (this potentially saved me from a future incident) Identified a rusted out turn signal that was eroded beyond repair Swapped out my old bars for some new bars I ordered GOT MY BIKE RUNNING! Total he was here a couple of hours. He was a great guy to talk to, honest and upfront about the condition of all things on the bike, even gave me some advice about places to go ride. Chris is an excellent mechanic...convenience of mobile; all work done at your site, and very reasonably priced. Chris took the time to explain to me the differences in optional upgrades/mods to my machines and helped me make the best choice for my money. I've used Chris for years for general maintenance, performance mods and machine builds. Most recently, I scheduled Chris at my house to do the following (all on the same visit): SxS: Highlifter 3" lift; spacers, rims/tires upgrade, oil/lube/tune; RM85: oil/lube/tune, front brake cylinder swap/bleed, seat upgrade; YZ450F: lowering link; fork drop; suspension tune. Chris completed all three in less than an afternoon. The convenience of not having to take all three machines to the shop and be without them for days (if not weeks) was money well spent; and the work is top notch. Chris came by to work on my scooter. All he did was clean the carb and fix a hose.. charged ***$120***. It ran great... for about 30 minutes and I was stranded forced to call a friend, load the scooter in his truck and take it home. Chris was gracious enough to come back over the next day. He couldn't fix it without parts (duh, right?) said he would find the part I needed, call me on Monday and come back to fix it right. Still no call... Finally heard from him and he fixed it for no additional charge, so I'm upgrading my review. read more

I enlisted the services of Chris after dropping my new-to-me 1980 Kawasaki KZ at a light. I explained via his email contact form that the gear shift lever was stuck and that the bike also needed a general checkup. To my surprise, he called me and scheduled an appointment less than 10 minutes after I submitted the form online. The experience was a satisfactory one. Chris checked over my bike and was able to fix a few minor problems the bike had developed over the several months since I purchased it. He then went the extra mile and changed my oil, instructing as he went so I would know how to do it on my own the next time. (He explained to me that although he normally doesn't offer maintenance services, he will sometimes show beginners the basics.) Finally, he rode the bike around my neighborhood and assured me that it was in good working order. If you can't be bothered to or, like me, are unable to transport your bike to a shop, Flying Wrenches is a company I'd recommend to anybody. This is by far the best motorcycle mechanic I've dealt with in austin ( or anywhere). He has worked on my bike twice both times the service and price were amazing. However circumstances like this set him apart. My motorcycle is my primary vehicle backed up by a 10 speed bike. Last night on my way home something hit my foot but it was late so I parked it and went inside and went to sleep. In the morning i found that my front brake assembly had become disengaged from my disc. Both nuts were gone and I had to get on my 10 speed and ride to work. Before I left I called Flying wrenches. He said he would come over to my house and check it out but that it might be hard to find the hardware on a Saturday. By the time I got to work, 45 minutes later he had gone to my house diagnosed my bike and fixed it with extra parts he keeps on hand. I preface this by saying every other mechanic would have put me in que and had the bike fixed probably on monday. He fixed it 45 minutes IN MY DRIVEWAY. I work on my bike alot and know what was invovled and I could not have asked for a better result. This guy is fast, proffesional and the best deal in town. I have ALWAYS ridden a motorcycle and cant recommend Flying Wrenches highly enough. Seriously, call him first. If for some reason you dont call him first then at least call for his quote, it will be lower, more convenient and the outcome will be better. He is the best in town, no doubt about it. read more

Chris & Flying Wrenches was referred to me by a riding buddy in Old Dudes on Dirt Bikes. I needed to have my KTM 300 XC-W two-stroke re-jetted for a trip to Cloudcroft, NM (6-10,000 elevations). Chris allowed me to visit his home shop the day before our trip in pre-hurricane Harvey conditions. He re-jetted the bike and showed me how to do it, so that I could undo the work upon return. How many mechanics will show you how to perform a task? He also reset my rear suspension and made a few front end suggestions, which made a world of difference in bike handling. All I can say is that he doesn't return calls or emails. We had a tentative appointment to come take a look at my bike, but when I called to confirm he didn't answer, nor return the call. Very disappointed. He may be the best mechanic in the state but that's pretty meaningless if he ignores commitments. Piece of advice to owner: if you don't want to do the work, just say so! Don't act like you are interested and then run and hide. Guess I'll be going back to my regular shop. read more

Chris Diagnosed my motorcycle like an unexperienced amateur. I hired him twice and my bike still can't maintain idle which was the reason I hired him in the first place! The first time I hired him, he came over cleaned the carburetor bowl in my bike, tuned the air to fuel mix, the idle and then left. My bike died while I was driving a few days later. It took me 45mins to push it back home, I was very frustrated. I emailed him a few times till I finally got ahold of him. He told me I could fix my bike and get it back running by cleaning out the carburetor bowl and gas tank. So pretty much repeat what I had paid him to do plus clean out my tank. Very helpful, huh? In the same visit he also told me that my starter bendix needs replacing and that it would break at any instant. I was concerned and thought that perhaps fixing the starter bendix would solve the idling problem, which I found out later was irrelevant. I personally replaced the starter bendix just to find out that the old one looks brand new and its completely functional. I spent $100 on the replacement part, $20 for the flywheel puller, plus the time I spent replacing the part all because Chris miss diagnosed it. The second time I hired Chris was two weeks ago from this date. Before he started I told him I brought my bike back to stock, that I had replaced the part he told me to change and that it still won't idle. He worked on my bike for about an hour and then called me over to check it out. It was idling for the first day and by night it left me stranded in downtown, I had to park my bike in a nearby garage. I contacted Chris and told him I wanted my money back, he called me and promised he would pick it, clean up the tank, fix it up and bring it back to me. He just dropped off my bike today with the same idling problem it had before i hired him. All he had to say is "sorry". read more

I had Chris come by to install some a flasher kit and get some wiring problem with the brakes sorted out on an old cushman. To his credit he worked a really long time on it (coming out twice), but couldn't figure it out, and at one point even got a little snippy & irritated. He did charge me a very low fee considering how hard he worked, but he didn't actually do anything so I was still out $250. He's probably competent with something newer, so I can't fault him another star for at least trying to work on the old thing. read more

I had the rear-end go out on my Polaris UTV. Instead of trailering it to a repair place I decided to try a mobile service. Flying Wrenches was definitely the way to go. Chris was great to work with and got my UTV back in working order. He also was conscientious about cost and helped source some inexpensive parts instead of jacking up the price on me. Chris came by to drain the gas and oil before my upcoming move. (The moving company required it). While he was here he also went ahead and changed the filter so all I have to do is add new oil and gas when I get there and everything will be fresh. Great service, he even talked me through how to do the oil change myself as well a few other things he wasn't here for. I highly recommend using him. read more

I had Flying Wrenches come out to take a look at an electrical issue with my Triumph cruiser that had been sitting for 2 years after hours of my time trying to hunt down the issue. Chris came out on a Saturday and found the problem almost immediately. He also took the bike with him and did a carb rebuild and threw on a new front tire. His rates are awesome, with these items costing a couple hundred bucks compared to over a thousand at a dealership.. and I didn't have to tow the bike! The best part about my experience was Chris- he's a very likeable straight-forward guy, and provided by far the best experience I've had with any mechanic I've had do work for me.
