As an avid thrift shopper and lover of all things vintage, I always try to stop by the Flying Worm while in the area. The store always has something fun to browse, and a wide selection of vintage. It can be a bit pricey, especially when clothes are used and sometimes have stains or holes, but there are still some great finds, especially in mens wear. I have gone shopping for my boyfriend and found great pieces for him there, but the women's section is more lacking. This store has a cute selection of vintage clothes. I love that everything was aesthetically organized in rainbow order. Lots of Elvis tees. The prices were a little more high end like $17 for a T-shirt but it's good to support thrifting. The worker was friendly to greet us when we came in but did not move from behind the counter. Cute store with a nice selection of vintage clothing and a LOT of vintage sneakers and boots. Priced a little higher than a thrift store of course, but not unreasonable (and honestly thrift stores have really started to mark up these items sometimes so maybe it's about the same). Fun accessories, jewelry, etc in a mix of vintage and modern. It's in a vintage building as well, in the Old Market, so it feels just right. I went in recently to buy a wallet, and I got a wallet! I was tempted to buy a vintage-style (but don't worry! It's new) tin of that lip balm, the kind we used to have in the early 80s, it smelled so great but would get pocket lint in it. Now I'm tempted to buy one and not carry it in my pocket. Anyway...back to the review. The staff member who helped me with the wallet was really nice and thoughtful, and offered to cut off the tag if I wanted to use it immediately (I did). We stop in Omaha twice a year and make it a point to go here each time. We always leave with something fun. The staff are great. Always at the ready with a heartfelt compliment. The prices can be on the higher side, but the point is that they have already done the legwork for you. Time = Money. I also really appreciate that they have dressing rooms so you try things on. I love the atmosphere of flying worm and typically like a lot of the clothing-- although most of it is overpriced. I decided to try out a "grab bag" a stapled shut paper bag that I was told would contain 7 clothing items but only had 6. Two of the items were damaged-- a torn pocket and a stained dress. The dress I attempted to get the stain out on my own when I got home, but it was washed-in stainand is not fixable. Two of the items had cartoons on them and looked childish (definitely not the type you find in their racks in the store) the only redeemable item found was a skirt (the other two items were vintage but ugly and itchy wool items). I didn't expect to love everything but I definitely didn't expect damaged items or childish clothing that did not fit the "vintage" aesthetic of the store. The only reason for 2 stars is bc the store itself is well maintained and has some good items. read more

As basically the most all-knowing vintage lover of all time, I've devised my own way of breaking down a vintage store. Behold... Eras: 1970's-1990's are most prevalent, with a few stragglers in the mix. Half of the store is new clothing, but I never pay much attention to new items. For whom: Women, men Sizes: Smallish sizes. Prices: Very reasonable. Condition: Very good. Customer service: Very nice and helpful. Pros: Located in a great, historic part of town. They have a very specific hippie/ethnic aesthetic and the new and old clothing go well together. Cons: I would have loved to see more expensive items. The kind that I'd want to add to my collection... some really special pieces. Everything in the store was very average, casual wear. aaaaand scene! read more

Love this place!!! I got these killer camel colored riding boots and one of the staff showed me this vintage side cross body brown vintage coach bag that I had to get. They have quite a bit of new items that I always want to get but have to resist. Go here if you don't mind used clothes...hello! They will have a smell. If you are a serious shopper and have a good eye, you will find something great here. Of course, some days you might find something, and other days you won't...like any other store. I like the fact that there are small sizes too bc I can actually fit in something! It's hard for me to find cool stuff at goodwill bc everything is so big. Lots of cool vintage clothing. Prices are a little higher but you are getting higher quality items. I was lucky enough to find several Lacoste polos my size that were in perfect shape. They were late 1980s but had 0 holes and looked like they had never been worn. I was surprised they weren't fakes. They have a really nice selection of old school leather jackets and apparel. More like a real GERM in the old market! This store has gone down hill from the day it opened. I used to be a frequent shopper when the store was still in bins and wooden boxes of decent jewelry. I moved away for about 8 months and when I came to visit my favorite Omaha store, it had been replaced with a boutique-esque mess. I looked around to see tables full of made-in-china jewelry. Since when did they start selling new clothes? Doesn't the sign outside say VINTAGE in big fat letters? Don't expect anything you buy at The Flying Worm to last you longer than one wear, and even then it will most likely be ripped or stained. read more

I love this store soooo much, I spend a lot of money here when I'm in town from California. Today I went in there and had to leave because incense was burning, my sisters and brother in law all left. I heard other customers say they were leaving as well. Also, I think the clothing smelled like incense. I still love this store, some amazing finds but the scent was overwhelming today. it feels like most of the store is now just fast fashion tacky crop tops and beach bags from china, if i had wanted to buy that sort of thing id just go to the mall. additionally I was looking at the jewelry and it all seems both overpriced and dirty like they didn't wash it after it sat in someones attic for years, you can barley call this place vintage anymore, super disappointing. on a good note the staff is always friendly and welcoming it just seems a bit shady to be selling this stuff knowing its environmental impact is just not good read more

Items are very costumey and tiny-size wise. good luck finding something that you could wear in real life. This is not topnotch vintage. There were stains and holes on lots of items. I did try on a pair of pants -my mistake-and swear i I got a rash from them. i would not be surprised since they get their clothes from those clothing donation boxes and from the overflow that thrift stores can't take. I love this little vintage shop across from Ted and Wally's in the Old Market. They have a wide selection of men's and women's clothing, as well as shoes and accessories (plus some really great sunglasses!). Their prices are pretty decent, although you could probably find similar items at a thrift store for cheaper prices, albeit with a lot more searching involved. However, the music and atmosphere in The Flying Worm is so much better - do yourself a favor and check it out. read more

I've been going to this place for a few years, I've always found things I loved, rarely leave spending less than $50; but the other day I was there an associate kept looking at me like I was some sort of virus. We'd make eye contact here and there (because I could literally feel her look of disgust) staring me down as I shopped. Even while purchasing my items she looked me up and down as if I didn't fit the standards to be in the shop she doesn't own. Idk what the issue was because every time I've been there everyone's been super friendly! I'm not saying I'll never go back but I don't think I'm gonna go back for a while. read more

I don't understand the "hippie-dippie" comment in terms of vintage clothing from the late 60's - mid 70's. The "dippies" were those who went disco before morphing into yuppies who followed aimlessly into whatever a trend was. No personal convictions, just trendies. Let me start by saying I'm not typically a vintage shopper. I'm more of a JCrew gal than a vintage gal. But, I was walking around with my Little Sis last week and we needed to get out of the heat, so we wandered in. The front of the store and the back portion to the left is all vintage. We picked up a few things and laughed at them. She tried on a few hats and sunglasses and looked crazy cute, but not things that we could wear in the "real world." But then, to my delight, we found that off to the back on the right, there is a whole section of newer clothes. They look like they might be made by someone here in Omaha - all cute, cute clothes. All under $35. Mostly sundresses and skirts with a bit of funk, but very, very wearable. So my J.Crew self bought a cute little skirt for $25 (although I cut the funky buttons off the front) and would have bought a couple dresses too if I hadn't just hit up J.Crew and Urban Outfitters this week. I wore the skirt today and had several compliments, plus a couple requests to know where the store is - which is why I'm on help (looking up the address) at the moment. So, I just wanted to post this review so people would know they have a section that isn't strictly vintage, albeit with a touch of vintage feel. When I need cute summer dresses, I'll check that section out again. Or, maybe, they'll have a fall line too? read more

This place isn't horrible... but it definitely isn't great. The clothes are all costumes, not vintage chic finds you'd be happy to sport around town. The newer stuff was mostly modern-hippie clothes, which I'm not personally into. That, and lots of cowboy boots. If you're looking for a costume for theatre or Halloween, by all means, check it out. But if you're interested in stylish clothes, I must confess I do not recommend this place. They have a large collection of bowling bags, and some interesting rings, but everything else baffled me. I found the staff indifferent, verging on negligent. If you're a medium-sized male hipster, you can find some shirts, otherwise, I'd pass on this one. read more
