My wife and I stopped by for lunch yesterday. Greeted by the owner/ chef Gary. Service was excellent! We both ordered the lasagna and were blown away. Absolutely delicious. Nice little place to enjoy a cocktail, eat some fantastic Italian food. I highly recommend it.

Great food continues to come out of this establishment. Enjoyed a very good breakfast at 3pm today. Thanks for the awesome food and better service!

Had a great waitress, met the friendly owner and the food was really good. Bloody Mary was good too!

Delicious Crab Cake Eggs Benedict! Try this one!!

I have tried nearly everything on their menu now. They have made a few little tweaks here and there, improving their already outstanding offerings. For breakfast today, I had their eggs Benedict on crab cakes! Eggs cooked to perfection! Hollandaise sauce was exquisite! The meal was delightful, fulfilling and delicious. I find they always deliver an excellent meal! The service is super! They have a full bar! Prices are reasonable and portions are generous!

    Great Marco Polo pasta

Had a great lunch today. I must say I was impressed by the fish and chips. I teased my brother for not ordering a pizza however I must admit I had a little food envy. Mom subbed a salad for the chips. The staff was friendly and checked on us to ensure we had everything we needed. Give them a try. We need to support our Local restaurants!

We ordered the Calamari appetizer and the Ragin Cajun entree for myself. The Calamari was a major disappointment. The portion size was shockingly small--more like a 6-piece chicken nugget meal meant for two people. I ended up having just one piece before sliding the plate over to my father. Next came the Ragin Cajun entree, served in what looked like a cereal bowl. While the portion size was decent, I couldn't help but compare it to Olive Garden, and let me just say--it didn't measure up. The dish consisted of sausage, shrimp, and chicken with pasta, generously seasoned with Cajun spices. However, the saltiness was overwhelming, and I can see how many patrons might find it off-putting, even though I tend to salt my food more than most. For comparison: Olive Garden's Calamari: $13.30 Flying Tomato's Calamari: $15 Olive Garden's Chicken & Shrimp Carbonara: $24 Flying Tomato's Ragin Cajun: $22 When it comes to value, Olive Garden is the clear winner. Flying Tomato would do well to increase their portion sizes and balance their seasoning better. At this price point, I expected more.

Loaded Tots are not so loaded.

Just visited Flying Tomato for the first time and I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed. I had heard great things about this place but overall, the atmosphere could have been much better. Bring down the lighting a bit to create a nice ambiance. The appetizers were very disappointing for the prices. A plate of loaded tots consists of about 23ish tater tots with a very small amount of cheese that is shredded. Not what I expected and five jalapeño slices and some bacon bits. At least it was real bacon. The zucchini was pretty bland too. The cucumber sauce tasted good though. Most of the entrees were okay as far as sandwiches and burgers go. The kids all seemed to like the pasta, and I had a pizza but for wood fired, it seemed soggy. The crust didn't hold up well but they are generous with the toppings. We had a Dutch party there but because of having 13 persons, they automatically charged a gratuity which we felt wasn't deserved since items were forgotten, we had to ask or remind our waitress of multiple items, and the place was not busy, we also felt a little neglected overall. They did give us a free desert since we were celebrating a birthday and for that we are grateful. We made a reservation for 6:30PM and were informed upon arrival that they close at 8:00PM. The waitress told us that some people had run late last year in February and at 8:15PM on the dot, the lights in the restaurant turn off on a timer that she has no control over. This leads me to think that the owners are some prudish hardcore control freaks, and I have to honestly say that this kind of crap makes me not want to revisit places. If you can't accommodate some paying customers who overstay a bit than you must not really want the customers in the first place. You close at 8PM for goodness' sake! Respectfully inform patrons that you'll be closing soon but for goodness' sake, don't turn the lights out on them! If someone hurts themselves leaving your establishment after your lights go off, you're looking at a nice lawsuit. I hope you figure out your life because micromanaging from afar is NOT the way to successfully run a business. I would visit this place again but mostly to see if things change for the better. It's not a place that I would particularly go to hang out but some of the food is worth a second look. Thanks for reading and Cheers!

    Great lasagna!

We both had the lasagna and it was delicious! Service was awesome and very friendly. Casual and for us that's perfect. The owner even came to our table to ask how we enjoyed it. Again...great! We'll definitely be back. They have specials every day too. And a bar for great Bloody Mary's with breakfast.

Wow! This establishment even after moving across town amazingly finds ways to make you come back for more. They now serve breakfast in addition to lunch and dinner. The service is fast a very little to NO delay for food for our large group of 10+ people. The restaurant is simple but relaxing. The staff and owner take equal time working together making it a welcoming environment for everyone.

Came here with my mom on 9/27/24. Service was friendly and fast. Food came out within 7-10 min and was delicious. They have their own wood fired oven for pizzas which I didn't expect. Next time I will try their pizza. Owner is nice and came over to talk to us. Would visit again.

Went back after previously having a pretty good experience for breakfast. The person working was super friendly and attentive. If it was just based on her, 5 stars. The food... I wouldn't consider anything hot. The omelette was kinda rubbery and didn't have much flavor, not like the previous visit. The biggest issue was the hashbrowns they were burnt on the bottom, and made them taste it bitter. It almost seemed like they were purposefully put on the plate to hide they were over cooked. Overall, I think I'd probably go with another option over coming back again, which is a bummer because Spanaway does not have many options.

The truffle fries were excellent. It was crispy, well seasoned, and not greasy. They had a nice truffle flavor without being overpowering. Unfortunately, the French dip was disappointing. The bread was toasted to the point that it was hard, making the sandwich difficult to enjoy. More importantly, the beef was very sparse for a $28 sandwich. It was advertised as chuck eye, but the meat I received was very lean and dry, lacking the tenderness and richness I'd expect from that cut. Based on this meal, I wouldn't order the French dip again. The fries were the highlight of the plate, but the sandwich wasn't worth the price.

Without a doubt this is one of Tacoma's best dining experiences. Chef Shawn's team is small but mighty. The staff that we encountered were all super kind and attentive. He walked around chatting with everybody personally, showed off dishes as he walked through the restaurant, and was even happy to let diners take a peek at his kitchen (how does he make all this magic happen on TWO CAMP STOVES?!) The menu isn't massive, but everything on the menu is executed with precision and grace. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted but I've had my eyes on the Lobster Bomb for years. My husband got the "Tiny Burrito" which is quite literally the size of a newborn. The Lobster Bomb was excellent. Generous chunks of succulent lobster and the hollandaise was perfect! Subtle on the lemon flavor as to not overpower, but still rich and creamy. I tried my husband's burrito and the chorizo gravy is stellar. You could easily share this with 1-2 other people in my opinion. It lasted my husband two leftover meals! The restaurant itself is small but it's cozy and feels like you're at home. No frills, nothing over the top, nothing trendy. Just a relaxed vibe with lots of authentic touches from Chef Shawn. While this was our first visit it definitely won't be our last. Don't make the mistake I did and let years pass by before you experience Tibbitts!
