This was really bad pizza at the Lombard location. Covered in what seemed like two whole wet onions on a medium.

Genuinely some of the worst pizza I've ever had. Cheese was so obnoxiously THICK at first it slid off the pizza, taking all the toppings with it. I waited a few minutes for it to cool down and it was like biting into rubber, with soggy crust because of all the oil from the cheese seeping in. Took a very long time to be made. It's on the expensive side too, very much a rip off. I couldn't bring myself to eat it and my father who will basically eat anything couldn't either. Do not waste your money! read more

The service was insanely slow just to order- the man at the cash register, who is always the one there moves like molasses. Ordered 2 pizzas and 6 drinks and the total was $65- after a LONG wait we got the first pizza, then nothing. The kids were eating, I waited patiently. We were in the mood for pizza Tues night and had heard good things about this place so we thought we would give it a try. We entered about 6:15pm and were surprised to see that other than the 2 guys working we were the only people in the whole big place. Nothing fancy here but lots of stuff on the walls and a few video games in the corner. We ordered a 14 inch Linguicia and pineapple and 2 sodas ($28) and waited for the pie. It was served fairly quickly and fresh and hot. The pizza was ok but much more spicy than we expected, just not to our taste I guess we each ate a slice and a half and gave the rest to the kids when we got home. For many years I thought Flying Pie had the best pizza in Portland. I loved their Canadian Bacon and Pineapple, piled high with delicious thick-sliced Canadian bacon and pineapple. During / after the pandemic, the bacon became thin and sparse. I tried ordering double-meat, but the thin meat held little flavor and covered less of the crust than the original, even when doubled. So I switched to their combination, which remained generous. However, tonight I think was their last chance for me. When I bit into the slice of combination #1, I immediately wondered what happened to the crust. It had the flavor and consistency of cardboard. The toppings were still plentiful, but the crust was barely tolerable. I am very disappointed; this used to be a place that consistently offered high quality pizza, worth the premium price. After getting it home, ravenous, I found out that it was made incorrectly (I said "light olives" and they filled it with nothing but olives). Called to complain and seek resolution and the manager (or owner?) gave attitude because I requested a refund. "Oh, so you want your $8 back because we left out a few ingredients?" Uh, yes. When 3/5 ingredients are left out due to YOUR error, it's good customer service to offer a refund. Mistakes happen, but lousy customer service shouldn't. Will never be back. read more

Between 11am-4pm daily you can get giant custom slices of the most topping heavy pizza you've ever had (or at least that I've ever had.) Both times I've gone I've gotten Italian sausage plus whatever veggies I'm in the mood for. The additional toppings are piled on (each one does cost extra, just an fyi,) and the cheese and sauce are in perfect ratio. Amazing. I've tried this place a handful of times but today will be my last. It's overpriced, service is way below average and they can never seem to get my order right. Stopped in to Portland's Lombard store for the first time to get a pizza to carry out. The store decided they would not allow dine in. That's fine...their choice. I was disappointed, however, they closed their restrooms as I could have really used one while waiting inside for my order. An employee must have told one of the owners I was not happy about the lack of access. A guy named Chris, I believe, approached me and said it wasn't personal, but a decision to keep his employees safe. Probably the same employees I shop with in crowded grocery stores, coffee shops and yes, my neighborhood bar/restaurant....all access including bathrooms, but practicing safety measures. I mistakenly told the owner I used to frequent a Flying Pie Pizzaria in Eugene, but believe now it was Boise...although still not completely convinced Eugene didn't have one at some point. Liked them very much until now. Just seems overboard on safety. If the owner is that sensitive, they shouldn't let anyone inside their building AT ALL and not have 4-5 employees crowded in the kitchen. For this reason, I felt it was personal and inconsiderate to deny access to a restroom and unfortunately won't further support this business. read more

I've been pretty much a regular here from time to time and usually for lunch (11am - 4pm). In my opinion, this place (hands down) has the best lunch special yet which consist of a custom slice (1/6 or 1/8 of a pie), salad bar, drink, and a breadstick with a price tag of less than $10 for all depending the toppings and not including tip. Veggie toppings run $.20 each, the meat toppings run $.30 each. There is specialty toppings as well but don't recall the price nor do I get them. The base cheese slice is $4.75. I personally recommend either custom slice size with Italian sausage, onions, and mushrooms. A great combination! A person can definitely get full just on the one bowl of salad and a portion of the pizza slice and still have some for later. I like this place because it's topping heavy, has good flavor, and I don't have to wrap excess napkins around the slice to soak up all the grease...at least not from my experience. It seems that would be the issue going to other local pizza places around town. Maybe that happens when buying whole pies and have more toppings. I will say there has been some inconsistencies with the amount of cheese they put on and the amount of sauce from time to time but it just depends on the person that is preparing and cooking. The couple times that I have ran across an issue with my order they've always made it right and went beyond, without question. I find a lot of places think the customer is trying to get over on them. They have my respect for that. Staff has always been friendly and accommodating. All in all, yeah, for some, may not the BEST pizza one person can have but you will enjoy a good, flavorful, decent slice with trimmings for a fraction of a cost. Well worth it in my book. The Flying Pie Pizzeria knows how to make a good hand tossed pizza. They use quality ingredients and don't skimp on them either. They use a good ratio of pizza sauce to cheese, which in my opinion is what makes a pizza good. You can have good ingredients but if you don't have the ratios down, then it won't taste right. The only comment we've had is that it could be tossed just a teeny bit more so that the dough is thinner underneath and the crust is a little thicker. However, still an outstanding pizza and we are more than happy to have it in our neighborhood. We usually get a pizza twice a month. Supreme calzone was really good and huge for $13. Pepperoni pizza is our standby order because it's simple yet satisfying. We really like the pepperoni they use, it has a great flavor and just enough spice to give it a nice bite. Combo Supreme pizza was really loaded, a bit rich for me, so one slice is more than enough. Overall, you can't go wrong with Flying Pie Pizzeria. Side note, we've only had carry out so I can't speak for dine in service. Although, I'd say there is plenty of space for a large party if you have a group of hungry kids. read more

Coming from Chicago, I didn't really have high hopes regarding the pizza out here. Honestly though, I was a bit surprised. We ordered the bbq chicken pizza on focaccia crust and it was great. Everything about the sauce was good, a little sweeter than expected but good, the chicken was cooked well and the crust was amazing. The staff here were nice and friendly. We had never been here before and it was a little awkward because we didn't know if we got our pizzas when they were ready or if they bring them out (you have to go get them at the window). I wish they would have done a better job of explaining that, but overall enjoyed the food and everything here. They also play a pretty kickass music selection ranging from 80s rock to early 00s music. As a 90s kid, this was right up my alley. I feel their prices could greatly be reduced. You don't get a super huge amount of food for what you pay for (which is why I'm only giving them four and not five stars), but I can see myself coming back here in the future or to a different location. read more

I have been eyeing this place for a little bit now and decided it was time to try it. I will go ahead and start out with the positive. You immediately get a great vibe when you enter the restaurant. Tv's are going, cool pictures are up, and music is playing. The smell of pizza overwhelms you and you truly begin to get excited. The ordering options kind of give you a Piology or Mod pizza feel. But that's where the positive stops. Since I was new to Flying Pie I was unsure of the ordering process. I started to make my order and was kind of fumbling through the process. There was absolutely no help from the gentlemen taking the order. In fact he stopped in the middle of order taking to answer the phone..... that right there makes me mad. He then took the rest of the order in a I don't really care attitude and stated that it would be 15-20 minutes for our small pizza to be done... 30-45 minutes later we finally hear our name called and walk up to get our pizza. We were expecting the world of our pizza because of the wait.... Well, it was pizza... That's it.... Nothing more.. Just pizza... There was nothing special about the pizza or the dough. Fairly tasteless and just blah.... Bottom line: Would I recommend Flying Pie? No Would I go back? Not for quite some time Try somewhere else if you want some good pizza. read more
