Omakase Room
Isaiah P.

FlyFish does a modern take on Omakase that is still respectful to the roots of traditional omakase. Chef Nori has been making omakase for 30+ years and curated the best omakase experience I've ever had; Fresh cuts of fish from all around the world, exquisite cocktails and Lo-fi hip hop & RnB in the background to bring it all together. Highly recommend. The main restaurant has Sushi, American, Italian food and a phenomenal bar. Everything on the menu is good but the omakase is just different.

really cool place. this is a members' only club. I'm not a member, but was invited to a birthday. arrived at the door and was let in by a security guard. was then greeted by a hostess who pushed an elevator button for me and directed me to the party, which was in a lounge downstairs. the downstairs bar/lounge had very cool, trendy vibes. the bartenders put a lot of effort into each drink. cocktails were $22/each. friend and i were not a fan of mango no. 5, but the "my thai" was good. place was very loud. i tried some appetizers - the food was good. this is a great date or party spot. i'd definitely want to come back for dinner or another event sometime.

Patrons with Chef

This restaurant was a highlight of our trip to NYC from NC. It's a members only club but we were invited through friends. The staff are attentive but unpretentious. Burrata with caviar kicked off the deliciousness, followed by innovative sushi rolls, shaved octopus - perfection -, oysters in a citrusy brine, sea bass...our table of five must have tried 12 dishes. This is a place with a big personality. Gorgeous, over the top, lively, reflecting the heart of lthe owner Chef Josh Capon who was very present during our visit. We saw several celebrities which was also exciting!

Private birthday dinner

Got to attend a wonderful private dinner for a friend's birthday here. The private room is something special and all staff members were as mentioned kind, friendly, approachable, attentive, and not pretentious. They were very welcoming people. This alone made me want to become a member. The ambiance of the staff is a big point for me. I did not get to see the Omakase room, hopefully in the future. The Cattail lounge is wonderful, and a great place for dinner with friends or for a date.

“Just attended a private party at Flyfish and not only was their food great, what was most appreciated was how incredible EVERY member of the staff was.”

One of the prices that came to mind was Redbreast 12 for $20 for a pour. I settled on Bitburger which was $10. Service was quick. You're certainly paying for the location as the bar situated amongst many clubs and events spaces.

It ended up being a nice spot for a casual catch-up, though with a few mixed impressions. The space itself is cute and very much feels like a neighborhood bar. One of the things we liked most was that they have games available--we ended up playing Scrabble while waiting for our friend to arrive, which made the time go by quickly and added to the relaxed vibe. Happy hour prices are solid, and the fried pickles we shared were decent. I also had a watermelon cocktail that was refreshing and perfectly fine, if not particularly memorable. Service was a bit inconsistent. The bartender wasn't very warm or welcoming to us initially, though that changed once our friend--who is a regular--arrived. Overall, it's a comfortable spot to meet friends and hang out for a few hours, especially on a weekday like Thursday. That said, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return, but I can see why it works well as a local neighborhood hang.

Not too crowded, the wait for a pool table was about 30 minutes, enough for a quick round of shuffleboarding. The games are relatively cheap, and there's so much variety, ping pong and board games. The live jazz is really what sets this place apart from the other pool halls, starting around 7 pm with what seems like maybe the house band and I think they have guests later in the night. It's the perfect atmosphere, fun lighting, lots of grungy writing on the walls, good indie music from the 2010s before the jazz starts. Plus the spacing of the tables is good so you're not constantly bumping into other players, which is a pet peeve of mine. I'm sure it's busier later in the night but it's perfect for an early stop in the evening. Cheap drinks and good deals as well!

Pretty cool and genuinely unique spot, different from most places in the city. The whole concept is…read morebuilt around keeping your hands busy: pool tables, ping pong, shuffleboard, foosball, chess, checkers, even some old-school arcade cabinets scattered through a sprawling underground space. It's actually a legacy spot in disguise. This basement used to house Fat Cat, a longtime West Village institution that shut down right before the pandemic, and before that the room itself was a bowling alley, tucked into a 1932 Art Deco building a few steps from Stonewall. Drink selection isn't the draw here, don't come expecting a deep cocktail list. Crowd skews heavily undergrad, and the place is loud, so it's not the spot for an intimate one-on-one or a real group conversation. It's built for a different kind of hang: elbow your way to a table, keep your hands busy, let the noise do the rest. There's also live jazz most nights, which adds a nice layer if you catch it at the right time. Neat place, just know what you're walking into.

The cocktails downstairs at Sip are incredible. For drinks, the tomato tree and Grandma's Apple Pie were both amazing. The mochi French fry was so unique and delicious. We got talked into the garlic fried chicken which I felt was good but small for its price. While we only went to the Sip level this time, Guzzle upstairs seemed like a great setup that's a bit easier to pop into, and its menu looked delicious too.

I arrived at 4 for my reservation for the limited burger and ordered it and a few other items. THE BEST THING I ATE was the Fois Gras. Without hesitation, quite possibly the best item on the menu. I could've eaten five orders of it. The burger was good, it wasn't the best burger in the world, it wasn't so great that I'm dying to go back and have it again... The fois gras on the other hand, stole the show. I'm definitely going back for it. The very next day, I went to Peter Luger, and Peter Luger's Burger is superior. If you don't don't believe me do a bang bang in the same day and if you can't handle that, go the next day to Peter Luger. That burger will blow your mind away. Of course, the service there and their old school way of doing things where they bring out a medium rare steak still cooking on a boiling hot plate till it's medium by the time you eat half of it is what's keeping them from being busy. They should've abandoned that sizzling plate. In any event, I digress, the burger at sip & guzzle, it's just like the burger at red Hook Tavern, overhyped & does not live up to the hype as being one of the if not "the best burger in the world". Peter Lugar still has the best burger and the fries are top notch too. Again, the burger was good. The fois gras stole the show. The place is cool, it's small, reservations are tough & The Burger is limited so walk-ins are a gamble. The fact that the bar doesn't open before four so that when you get there early, you can sit and have a drink really is a fail. I find that to be plain silly. Drinks were good. High price point for drinks that were as good as anywhere else, again not superior, but that location is small and rent is surely massive. So, all good. Id go back for apps and 1 drink.

Daily they have a pianist rotation along with bar staff who have voices of angels. Service at Duplex is always superb, table or at the bar. I assure you though, once you enter the doors of Duplex - you will want a table. You're immersed into the musical beauty of the city, you're reminded of Broadway dreams and Empire State miracles. Duplex gets better the more you open yourself to the social happenings around you. Share a drink, take some shots, sing a song in front of strangers. Keep in mind your tab will get pricey, but that is what you'll have to be willing to pay. Though you need not be inebriated to enjoy Duplex, I've done it multiple times and have had a great experience either way. Since we had such a great time, we stopped in on the next night, and it was a massive disappointment. Shitty attitude from the bartender. (Not sure if there were 2 bartenders with the attitude, or just one terrible bartender and a friend hanging out with him doing nothing but distracting him.) Either way, the bar was not crowded yet and he straight up ignored us. For a while. We left. Drinks are made with the cheapest of booze and served in plastic cups. Based on the quality, the prices are high, even for the neighborhood. Despite the drinks and despite the crappy service on the second visit, we will likely come back the next time we're in town in hopes of finding a bartender who understands the job. It's near other stuff we like, and the music and vibes were that good on the first night. And if it sucks again, there's like a thousand other places in walking distance.
