I haven't done a lot of fishing in recent years, but back in high school I enjoyed occasionally doing a bit of bass fishing. I've never gone fly fishing, however, and that (obviously) is the sport Fly South is geared toward. According to my buddy Dave (an avid fisherman and outdoorsman of all sorts), this place is just about the best source for fly fishing gear in the city. A lot of Fly South's gear (flies, rods, reels, et cetera) seems a bit pricey, but I'm relatively certain fly fishing is a particularly pricey endeavor. They do, however, have a pretty extensive selection, and the staff seems very knowledgeable and friendly. They also carry clothes geared toward fisherman: hats, sunglasses, multi-pocketed shirts and vests, khaki shorts and more. If I were a fly fisherman, I'm guessing I'd hit this spot quite often. It's far less overwhelming than Bass Pro Shop and other large outdoors and sporting good stores, and it's run by genuine guys who seem happy to help.

These guys sell products at a ridiculous markup. It's borderline criminal. Saw prices and walked right out the door.

If you know me, even if through my reviews, you can probably tell I am not much of an outdoorsman,…read moreso Bass Pro Shops is not a norm for me...however, on occasion when I need something relative to outdoor spaces such as grills or accessories for a day on the water, Bass Pro Shops is a go to. And also bringing my nephews here when they visit is always a win, as they entertain themselves for a while with all the fascinating items and the fish tank! This BP is located in Opry Mills, so I am very selective of the times I will go here as traffic and shoppers can go from 0 to 60,000 real quick. My latest adventure here was to pick up a grill I had been eyeing on line for a few weeks. I finally decided to commit and wanted to pick up at the store after laying eyes on it. Upon arriving, I ask associate at the desk where the grills were and she led me right to them. Once I confirmed I was good and ready to make the move, she helped me purchase and set me up for pickup, which was around the side of the building. While she was super friendly and helpful, the warehouse associate was less than on both fronts. He did not speak a word to me and was fairly rough loading my grill. I brushed it off as I was excited, but it was still worth noting. The grill is a house BP brand and so far, I am absolutely loving it! It is a dual grill with half grate and half flattop, which I had been after for a long time. Cost was decent as well. Overall, Bass Pro Shops is a cool spot to wander around aimlessly in, or a useful spot to visit and get exactly what you are after. Again, while I am not an avid outdoorsman, I can enjoy a good BP visit on occasion!

Was wandering around Opry Mills and the massive set up of shoes caught my eye at Sun & Ski Sports,…read moreso I had to pop in. Once inside, I scoped the shoes and then started the follow the sizeable loop through the store to see all the goods from clothing, hats, bikes, coolers, floats and more. Legit everything and anything a professional or novice sportsman could want. I was there for the shoes and clothes, and really like their selection of sun shirts and the varieties of shoes, especially Hoka's. Pricing was standard for a retail spot like this, definitely no discounts here. Service was non-existent for me. I did not directly need assistance, but I did pass by several associates and was never greeted or acknowledged. Overall, cool store that I am happy to swing back through when the outdoors call!

They first introduced me to a winter obsession of mine - Smartwool socks. If you've never worn them, they are so wonderful and warm and addictive. Hate it. I've shopped at Blue Ridge stores in Virginia Beach, Charlottesville, Williamsburg,…read moreRichmond, Wintergreen and the one that used to be in Cool Springs, and this is the worst of them all hands down. I've never had staff help here that seemed anything other than them trying to make a sale. I went there today with a pair of Vasque boots whose sole cushioning had dry rotted after 3 years. The manager said there was nothing that Vasque would do, and recommended a cobbler on the West Coast who would repair them for $60. Instead I took the boots to Cumberland Transit, and 15 minutes after I had walked out of BRMS, Cumberland said no problem. All I had to do was pay $10 shipping to have them sent back to Vasque to get new soles. It also ticked me off that the lady at BRMS repeatedly said the soles had delaminated, when in fact they had dry-rotted, something I had to point out to her multiple times. In short, this is the worst BRMS store I have ever been in, and one of the worst outdoor stores in the Nashville area, which is consistent with the reviews I have heard from other outdoor buffs. I guess they stay in business catering to the Belle Meade label conscious crowd.
