walked in on a thursday morning, i was the only client. this was my first visit. i needed to get my SNS removed and a coat of clear polish in order to nurse my cracked nail bed. pros: - they accept walk-ins, i was treated courteously. - a different nail tech fixed the first person's mistakes with no issue. cons: - these 2 basic services took 1 hour. i arrived at 10:45 and walked out at 11:45. - the work did not meet my standards. my nails were not uniformly filed. the glitter from my SNS was not completely removed before applying the clear coat. i may try a different tech here, it's in my neighborhood and it's black owned, i am partial to give 'em another try. read more

I tried, I really did. People that know me know that I am particular about my nails. Especially in the times of COVID where people pay more attention to other things on your body-your eyes, glasses, hairstyle and yes your nails! I went looking for a new black owned and operated salon after my prior nail tech retired. I was excited to find this new shop in my area and down the street where I patronized previously. This shop opened up in the fall of 2020. I have a good friend that had been going to them and enjoyed them, so that made my decision to try them out even easier. Initially I got a little frustrated with making an appointment because the booking site they had previously was no longer up. Fortunately by time I went to make an appointment, they had revamped their booking system. Initially it was a little overwhelming but I figured it out. You select your services that you desire, and then it will let you know what technicians are available. This is the catch...you have to know what you are booking. I will say, for someone that may not be used to getting their nails done, the services list can be very overwhelming, so you might want to call. Also, know that there are different levels to the technicians that work in the studio: Master and Senior (keep this in mind for later in the review), which comes with a price differential as well. Nothing wrong with that, as many beauty salons employ this practice. When you enter the salon, everyone greets you, which is nice. The layout of the salon is very nice and welcoming. They will ask what they can help you with, so please remember the name of the technician you booked with (I didn't smh-don't be me). It may be different now (first visit was in January), but there was no consistent mask wearing among the techs, which bothered me, as that's a basic COVID protection requirement. On my first visit, I had particular colors in mind because I had a special occasion the next day. When I sat down with the technician, I picked a color that I knew would take a few coats (if you've ever worn OPIs "bubble bath" you know that it is a very faint pink. I showed the technician the design I wanted (which I thought was fairly simple) and she said okay. She proceeded to work on my fill in (for background information, I have acrylic overlays over my natural nails). She asked if I liked my acrylic thick like I had it (which in my mind it wasn't but okay, I'm not the pro) and I told her it would be okay to thin it out. Keep in mind for this visit I had a fill in and pedicure scheduled. So I calculated that my fill in should take about 1.5 hours due to the repairing, shaping, etc. My fill in took almost 3.5 hours! Because of that I didn't get my pedicure as I had somewhere else to be after my appointment. Also, the tech asked me if it was okay to change the color because the color I'd chosen initially would take too many coats. She also had to ask another tech how to do the design I'd chosen. I guess when I come to a nail salon, specifically of this kind, I expect folks to know how to do at least a basic design. This is where those technician levels come into play. Lesson learned. The next day two of my nails broke (one of my own fault, the other I just don't know) and another week later the acrylic broke on another, taking my whole natural nail and the skin underneath with it. After all these things, I'd said initially I wouldn't come back. But my friend suggested I try one of the master techs instead, so I did. My second visit was much better-however, the salon was more crowded this particular time, so each station was occupied, which also meant lack of social distancing. The tech completed my fill in in 1.5 hours-the average I expect for a stilletto overlay fill in. I was happy with this set until the next day, my thumb nail polish chipped. Fortunately for me, I was able to go back on a Sunday to get it repaired. Apparently this is an issue for a few folks because there were others there to get the same issue repaired, plus I heard one of the master techs on the phone with another technician explaining how one must be careful to ensure that the thumb nail is completely cured under the uv/led light. The young lady that completed my repair was very nice and took measures to ensure the nail was completely covered by the uv/led light to make sure it wouldn't chip again. Guess what happened the next day? It chipped. So i'm not sure if it's the product or what, but after that I was done. Plus, this made me look at my set more closely. The glitter had gaps in it where it should have been filled in, one piece of glitter could have been mistaken for a mishap, and another part of the polish that was part of the design had faded off. At this point, I gave up. My schedule is very busy and I don't have time to keep going back for repairs. I expect my set to be right the first time-not the 2nd, 3rd or 4th. I've gone back and forth on doing an update, but feel I have to. So after my first time visiting, I went back two more times for a total of three separate visits. On my second visit, I was sad to learn that Jocelyn, who did my pedicure the first time, had left. I wasn't receiving a pedicure that day, but was looking forward to seeing her again at my next visit. Luckily, Robbin was still there. My mom and I both set appointments for SNS at the same time with Robbin for myself and I think Marquita for my mom. The salon was pretty busy, but when I make an appointment, I expect the requested services and technicians to be available at the requested time or close to it. Robbin wound up having to do both my and my mom's SNS. She did mine first and then started on my mom's. She did an amazing job as always, but given that we couldn't be serviced at the same time, we spent way more time at the salon than anticipated. The third and final time I visited, I noticed when booking my appointment that Robbin's name wasn't a selection (when I arrived, I learned that Robbin no longer worked there...superrr bummer). So I booked another appointment for my mom and I - this time for pedicures and SNS. When we arrived, there were only two technicians and they were already with customers and not quite close to being finished. I didn't like this seeing as we arrived on time for our 6pm appointment and had to hit the road to Alabama following our appointments. We finally sat in the pedicure chairs about 20-30 minutes later and about 10 minutes after that, we were being serviced. After our pedicures, the techs began on our nails. Once done, my nails looked good, but my mom's looked terrible. They were bumpy and not smoothed out and the shape was ill-formed. My mom said it was as if the tech wasn't familiar with the method of SNS because she didn't brush away the excess powder before dipping again. My mom would've said something, but at this point, it was 9pm, we'd been in the salon for THREE HOURS, and still had to drive 1.5 hours to Alabama. It wasn't worth it. Aside from the service not being up to par, the wait/servicing times being very long, and the appointments not quite being honored as requested (almost as if they are unaware of your appointment), the price paid to experience all of this was disappointing. I typically get my nails done every two weeks, so I happily shell out a lot of money...when the service is up to par. All this to say, I haven't been back in about a month and sadly, don't plan on coming back. I'd written a great review and raved about this place to my friends only to be disappointed shortly after. My friend told me about this place and immediately when I heard "black owned" I was all in. However, the person doing my nails was extremely slow. It seemed as if she didn't feel good, which I took into consideration when making this post. The woman who did my nails was extremely nice and sweet but I left feeling so frustrated because my nails look god awful. I realized she never put on top coat, she didn't properly brush my nails with the paint, the coating is uneven. I take a lot of pride in my nails and actually have to budget them in. I came here last minute looking to get a gel mani/pedi. They do accept walk ins which is great & the staff is very nice as a whole. I was fortunate enough to get a last minute appointment, & even better, my nail tech actually started on time. She did my pedicure first, then moved on to my nails. My pedicure was fine & she was an extremely nice & sweet girl. Throughout my services she would ask me if everything was okay, which I liked. The reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because my nails did not look good at all. I know that some people are just starting out & that's okay, but if I'm paying $60 for a service, I expect it to look good. So I saw all these great reviews and haven't been to a nail salon since covid started. I have gotten used to my natural nails so I asked for a pedi and went with SNS on my hands. The ladies were kind and professional but I was cut with the nippers during the pedicure and days later it was really sore and I was in a panic because the nippers and all tools were out sitting on the cart not individually wrapped which usually shows me they were sanitized. There was a tub liner.The SNS popped completely off the next day so it was like me just handing them a $35 tip cuz I got no wear out of them but Monica did a great job for the shortness of my natural nails I just thought they'd last longer than a day! I got gel on my feet so it's still there. The place has a youthful vibe and that's cool but there's a TV playing some very risqué music videos which was off putting cuz I'm a Pro to the core and even though I listen to some risqué music I feel a business should b professional because you don't know who's patronizing you and I'd b embarrassed about twerking videos playing if the pastors wife came in lol! The Ambiance was pleasant otherwise. Based on the reviews I asked for the two girls mentioned the most but was immediately redirected to someone else due to the other girl's popularity. That's fine Monica wasn't bad but it makes me wonder if my manicure would've lasted longer done by one of the girls I initially asked for. Would I return? Prolly not but I wouldn't discourage others from giving them a try. I think they could use a better polish selection. I think the first impression should always be the best one. This was my first time going. I had an appointment and they ended up helping all my friends and other customers before me. I was helped 2hrs after my appointment. I had to tell the staff that i had an appointment 3 times in order for them to help me. I was there 10 minutes before my appointment and I guess that didn't help either. I did not even get an apology for the long wait I think I was over charged for some basic nails. Customer service: Ambiance and customer service was really nice. Everyone greeted me as I walked in and that were a few chairs for waiting to be called back. When I walked in even though scheduled online it didn't seem that they were expecting me when I walked in because I was still asked what I wanted done even after telling them I had an appointment. It almost may have been better to just be a walk in from that perspective. Booking: I was able to book online via social media which made it uber convenient. But I'm not sure if it necessary. Again, maybe I just walked in at a time that it didn't matter much if I had an appointment or not. So no strong position on whether it's better to book online or not. Price and service: Pricing was fair and really affordable. The decor was nice and inviting. Ambiance is cozy. My qualm here was that I'm only 5'4" and I wasn't able to really enjoy my pedicure because the chair, although nice, didn't slide up far enough for my feet to be comfortably placed and accessible while being serviced. They offered me a few pillows to make up for the difference and yall though thoughtful it meant o didn't get to enjoy the massage benefit of the chair because o had to consciously sit upright the whole time. The technician who serviced me was sweet, but I could tell that she was either training or new to start. I needed some repairs on my nails and she needed to consult a few other people before doing anything to fix the breaks. I was looking forward to the massages portion of the pedi since I was sacrificing the back due to having to adjust my posture, and it was pretty okay and short. My toes looked good at completion but within three days were breaking again despite the repairs with the acrylic work that I paid extra for to help resolve the splitting issues in my nail bed. My biggest disappointment was the amount of time I was there. I scheduled for a basic mani/pedi and was anticipating to be there at most 1hr and 45 min or mac 2 hours, but ended up being there almost 3 hours and had only a less than mediocre manicure because I had been there so long and was frustrated by this point. I ended up leave without and color in my nails because I didn't have anymore time to spare to wait for drying or attempting to apply gel polish. After I left and thought more about my experience, I realized that she didn't attend to my cuticle area on my toes or my fingers so I ended up with less than desirable results that was definitely telling by later in the week. Overall, I'd love to return APPE day and potentially have a better experience. I was super hype to go to this pace because it was black and women owned. I'll give it some time and potentially return again and give it one more shot before continuing my search for a regular salon. read more

I have been to FLY 6 times. Initially I went for the pedicures only. They were moderately fast, very price efficient and the vibe is AMAZING. In November, I began to get my nails done as well as my feet. I booked my appointment online (great feature) showed up early and waited 45 min due to an overbooking. Ended up being there over 3 hours to take care of nails and feet. 1 week after my new set, one nail started lifting. I held out as long as I could and got a fill in about 2 weeks later. The tech ended up gluing where it lifted ( I suppose that standard procedure) did my fill and completed my appointment. Also, at this appointment I learned never let a tech do a service they would prefer not to. I asked for sweater nails, she said she didn't really like doing them and the end result showed. I went back 2 weeks ago. Asked for soak off, overlay and polish. I was there for 3.5 hours. Currently, I have one overlay that has come off, many of the nails are chipped on the corners and the gel is peeling off. I really really really want to support black owned businesses. I booked my appointment at the salon for a manicure and pedicure one week in advance. The first problem was that I received a text message for the wrong time of my appointment. I called and was told that the text message was in error and my appointment time was the one that I thought it was. I arrive at the shop on the day of my appointment at 12 noon. The shop is closed. No one is inside. I called the number and I received a text message back. No one arrives. I called the number again and the person who answered the phone said let me contact the technician and I'll call you right back.I then receive a text that the technician is pulling up. I am sitting in the parking lot and no one is there. I finally leave at 12:30 after waiting 30 minutes for a 12 noon appointment. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I ATTEMPTED to get a fill here but my appointment was ignored. I wanted to give this place a try since it is black owned. The reviews were mixed, the main complaint was the customer service. But I realize some people can be too sensitive or hard to please. I called to make an appointment, the lady that answered was friendly and professional sounding, I told her that I was a new customer and wanted to make an appointment for a fill. Enthusiastically, she said 'sure, can you hold for just a minute?' 3 minutes later (the 1st sign) she comes back, thanks me for waiting and asked me when did I want to come in. I made an appointment for 6pm on a Friday. I walk in the shop, the lady in the first chair greets me as she is working on her customer. I proceed to tell her that I had an appointment at 6pm and gave my name. She said ok...someone will be with you in a few minutes...that was at 5:55pm. Every station was occupied, I was never told who would be doing my nails, so I have a seat and wait! And wait, wait, wait and wait some more. By 6:30...no one has said a word to me, so I get up and tell the lady in the first chair that I was leaving. Surprisingly, she says 'Ok'! .....No apology/explanation for the wait. No offer to reschedule for another time...just 'OK'. So, I cannot speak on the quality of their work, but I can say that their customer service skills are severely lacking!! I went there after work got there Friday (March 26) around 5:15pm. I had Monica, my nails where uneven. By Monday my nails started to come off. I paid $55 just for a full acrylic nails with gel polish. You would expect them to last longer than three days. So disappointed. Then I had to wait another hour just to get a pedi that same day. The guy just doesn't know how to properly do a pedicure. My gel polish came off Sunday.You would imagine a gel polish would last longer( reason why I always get gel) paid $37 for nothing. The owner give me a 20% discount for the time I waited for my pedicure and just the overall horrible experience I had. But in total I spent 90.00 for a three day nails. Don't go there.
