We hired Flowers by Stem for our wedding and I cannot overemphasize how wonderful our experience with them was. We got married at The Art Institute and the flowers were every bit as beautiful as the venue. Just gorgeous. I am an exhaustive searcher when it comes to choosing companies, and I chose Flowers by Stem after contacting 30 or so florists in the Chicago area, making an enormous spreadsheet, and weighing the options. There isn't a doubt in my mind that they are the BEST at their price point, and should probably be charging far more. I worked with Stephanie, who was incredibly responsive and patient while we worked details out over email (I was planning from DC, so we couldn't meet in person). She was wonderful. I sent photos of flowers from other weddings that I liked along with a list of my favorite flowers and crossed my fingers. The result was absolutely stunning and somehow just what I wanted and even more beautiful than I could have pictured. Stephanie was also great about working around several constraints of the venue, including finding us LED votives since no open flames were permitted, making pomanders for the flower girls since we couldn't have petals, and constructing an enormous arrangement to cover a nude statue that was directly behind our heads during the ceremony. Stephanie has a real warm and genuine personality that transfers into her work. When I met with her initially, she was prepared with a "deck" of different flower cards so I could visually see the types of flowers she was recommending. Her quotes were easy to follow in terms of pricing/detail, so if any changes needed to be made (and we went through three revisions), they were easy to track. On the day of, I was blown away by how lush and gorgeous the bridal and bridesmaids bouquets were. The color absolutely popped! I requested ferns for our centerpieces, since our theme was inspired by the Redwood forests from a trip week took to CA/OR and boy did she deliver. Not only did she include ferns, but she sourced SIX different varieties to be included. We requested gold vases for our round tables and clear bud vases for our rectangle tables, and again, she truly delivered. There was so much variety, in terms of both the vases (square and trumpet-like for the gold) but the arrangements (she also included this light lavender in addition to the burgundies, greens, and ivory flowers in the final proposal) were like visual candy for our guests eyes when the reception space was revealed. I did provide some heirloom vases to be used and when I went to pick those up from her studio following the wedding, she gifted me 1/2 dozen roses "just because". there is really no need to look any further for a florist. stephanie from flowers by stem is all you need, and trust me, the last thing you want to be worrying about is an annoying florist who doesn't get your vision and wants to monopolize your entire wedding budget. stephanie is who you want because: -she gets it. prior to meeting with stephanie, i met with a couple of 5 star florists who insisted on "minimums" for their services, who told me that for my budget (which wasn't miniscule!) would not allow me to see my vision come alive, and who kept giving me revised proposals that were $3k above my stated budget. i had little expectations before meeting with stephanie, but after meeting over tea and sharing what i wanted with her, i was sold. she helped me to adjust my expectations on my vision, but came up with a proposal that encompassed my entire vision AND was budget friendly. she even introduced me to ideas/concepts that i never thought of, but were right on par with the concept we were aiming for at our wedding. her expertise was just outstanding. -she's organized. you never have to worry about hunting her down for anything. she's great at keeping in touch, is very quick with turnaround, and basically keeps everything straight. believe me -- you will appreciate this as it's unusual to have a perfect wedding planning process. there are slackers out there and stephanie is NOT one of them. -she's just awesome. her work is incredible and so to the point that my guests and family were inquiring about her work. my mom joked (or maybe she's serious?) that she wishes she could have a weekly delivery of stephanie's flowers, just because they're that beautiful. visit the flowers by stem fb page if you want examples. and contact her! she was, by far, my favorite vendor :) read more
