Now known as the Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, we recently had a very good experience with Nick…read moreFarenga and team. Hodder Farenga came recommended from a local community group. We met with Nick, discussed what was desired in our family member's funeral, and he guided us to explore the different options. While difficult, Nick made it as easy as anyone could possibly make it, and did not attempt to influence our decisions one way or another. He simply presented the options and allowed us to decide. Once done, he prepared a detailed quote. While their full service funeral service is not inexpensive and there may be less expensive options, we found that Nick and team managed every element of the process and ceremonies very well and were professional from start to finish. We have no regrets and recommend Nick and team at Hodder Farenga Funeral Home.

We were mourning the death of my mother in law, it's stressful and who has the mind to think? Everything here is over priced. And things on the bill are repeated just worded differently, so ur basically paying for the same services a few times. But not only that, you pay over $3k for things such as supervision and for someone to direct the guests, that wasn't done, everyone was walking in the wrong direction causing traffic in the room. They also asked us which flower arrangements we wanted to keep after all is said and done, we told them which arrangements and we put it on a side table and they promised to set it aside to pick up after the funeral. Well that wasn't the case, the next day when we called to let them know we were picking them up, we learned that they sold our flower arrangements back to the other florists they work with. He then told us he would replace them but he never did. They return your phone calls before they get your money, but once you pay, your on your own. There was only one person that was a good guy and that was Carl. Everyone else there is disgusting. They are patronizing and condescending and don't give a crap about people that are mourning Bc it's something they do everyday, they are like robots. Oh and on top of it he said he would take off $200 off the bill, because the hair and makeup charges were over $500 which is ridiculous... when it was time to pay he didn't take it off the bill, instead Nick played stupid as if he was going to do it at the end...we had him recalculate everything Bc the total was way above what we agreed on. We made him break it all down. then he adjusted to the correct number. Then he just took $125 off the over calculated bill. We were so tired and stressed that it wasn't even worth arguing at that point. Beware of this place. Make sure you do your research on prices before you shop around. We chose that place Bc of the location, wasn't even worth it. Nick Farenga your a disgusting pig.

Who knows what has to be done to get through this difficult time when all you want to do is join your loved one in heaven? With all of the family bickering that went on (yes, even then) William Curran knew exactly what had to be done and did what he had to in the eyes of the law and God. He never took sides, he handled everything with the utmost respect, care and was very professional. The services he provided were well worth that little bit extra compared to the "other" places I called. it's like going to the dollar store and getting lotion for your baby because it's cheaper and then she breaks out in a terrible rash. This is my comparison to the other places. As for McKeon, it was like shopping at Lord and Taylor. He made sure my husband's appearance was as if he was taking a nap.The casket was beautiful. I picked out a beautiful Urn to put my husband's ashes. Everything was the way it should have been. Bill was very comforting and he made everything so easy. I had a million questions. He took my calls every single time and was never bothered. He is eager to help and has the best facility. He showed us downstairs and the embalming room. All was clean and I cannot tell you how satisfied I am. I wish that I can do something as wonderful for him one day, that's how happy everyone was with the services provided. Don't bother to shop around. Your loved ones are precious and even in death, they deserve the best. Thank you Bill.

At the cemetary, as the priest blessed the coffin, I recognized that the funeral home embossed the wrong name on the outside of my father's coffin! There was nothing I could do at that moment because of distraught family members. If I were there alone, I would have stopped the burial! Instead, I immediately contacted the funeral home. To this day, four months later, Matt and the funeral home have not corrected the problem. I have called a number of times. I would NOT recommend this funeral home because of their insincerity and refusal to take responsibility for their mistake. The idea of my father's coffin having the wrong name on it makes me crazy on a daily basis. My father has gone to meet his Maker in a coffin with a mistake that will stay there virtually forever. Shame on you, Matt!

She died on a Friday in NYC and that happened to be the same weekend that the NYC computer system that handled death certificates was getting updated. Apparently, that update had been tried before and crashed, so there was some question about whether the computerized death certificate could be issued by the city in time for the burial we had scheduled for Tuesday. The old system was shut down before Mom's death certificate was issued and we had to wait at least a day (or maybe it was even until Sunday) to see whether the city's new computer system would even function. Meanwhile, the hospice doctor didn't want to issue a hand-written death certificate (which was the fall-back) if the new system was going to work. Ed kept us well-informed and he was even prepared to drive to New York himself to get the handwritten death certificate if that was the only way that the burial could happen on time. Fortunately, the new computer system didn't crash, the death certificate was issued, and the funeral and burial could proceed as planned. Everything went smoothly at the temple (where we held the reception and the funeral) and at the cemetery. Fox did well by us at a very difficult time.

At a time in which you're…read moreexperiencing severe emotional distress and feeling vulnerable because of the loss of a loved one, it makes such a difference to have these important services provided by good and empathetic people who really try to go the extra yard. That's what we found here. It took me a while to get around to writing this, but I'm glad to be sharing good news about Pelham Funeral Home. They were respectful, warmhearted people who asked what we wanted, thoughtfully offered us options and didn't try to up sell like some funeral homes might. They're sensitivity was truly impressive, from start to finish. The funeral home is also nicely furnished, immaculate and well managed. We were impressed at what a nice multimedia presentation they could prepare with photos and memories. They were really dedicated, patient and helpful, using photos from various family members to craft some beautiful memorial booklets, related printed items and video screen images for the memorial/wake. Clive, a dignified, outgoing and very friendly man originally from Ireland, is the best. He was reassuring right from first contact and we actually enjoyed talking with him during the planning. We enjoyed his warm personality and clear interest in doing things right. That says a lot. Clive's colleague Hanah was also wonderful during all of the planning and at the funeral. She kept track of everything and, like Clive, treated us like friends. They're professional, warm and outgoing. If you're looking for a place that will do things right with class, respect and humanity, this is the place. They put us at ease, treated us like family and helped us all get through some difficult times. I am deeply appreciative of that.

They made it seem like they had shipped caskets to other states, but the shipment was delayed a couple days because they really didn't know what they were doing. Some of the smaller things were flubbed as well: they said they'd send the death certificates in the casket itself and then didn't, we chose one inscription for the casket and they ended up doing a different one. At no point did we get an apology or even a "thank you for your patience on this matter". The receiving facility was part of a larger chain, and the Pelham folks made it seem like we wouldn't be getting a personal touch from them, though the smaller company screwed up anyway.
