I saw Cyndi Collen back in 2017-2018 for about 6 months or so.
I stopped seeing her after she told me that I needed to "learn how to be more succinct".
She said this in response to me having some heavy emotions/thoughts come up toward the end of our session. I was struggling to put the feelings into words and holding back tears.
It's one of the most hurtful things a therapist has said to me and in retrospect, it's negligent.
You have a patient on the verge of a breakdown that has complex PTSD, depression, anxiety, a disorganized attachment style, and severe oral wounds and your response to them trying to express the storm that's going on internally is "you need to learn how to be more succinct".
Yes, we went over 5 minutes..but humanity vs capitalism?
I don't know, I'm not a therapist but a therapist that truly cares about their patients would find a kinder way to set boundaries.
After this session I missed my next session with her and my brain convinced itself that she never reached out to re-schedule my no-show session (she did). My brain convinced me that Cyndi did not like me, found my thoughts/feelings not worth listening to, found me annoying, thought I was a cry baby, etc.
It took me YEARS to gather the courage to search for another therapist. While seeing Cyndi I was fighting some of my worst depressive episodes. I was suicidal, had days where I couldn't move, my partner even tried feeding me while I laid in my puddle of tears on ground of our apartment, I'd lock myself in the bathroom to cry and contemplate suicide.
It was a very dark time for me and Cyndi's words cut so deep.
So much so that it's now 2022 but this comment wheedled its way into my head. But I'm posting this for the sake of feedback and to express my hurt feelings.
Also, I have to point out the irony here -- my review is not succinct and I'm not sorry.
Side note: your constant smile throughout the sessions was unnerving.
Regardless, I hope your fur babies & you are well. read more
