I can't believe it's taken me this long to write this review! Let me start by saying I was a very apprehensive about seeing a therapist. I did a lot of research and wanted to believe in "cognitive therapy", but I honestly had little hope I would be able to change my thought patterns and behavior after 40+ years. It also didn't help that I'm a physician and thought I could fix myself. I was a workaholic in a high stress career, and I was suffering from severe burn out. I felt like I was on a hamster wheel with no way off. It was negatively affecting my marriage, my relationships and my sense of self. As much as I wanted a change, I couldn't see how it was possible. After working with her for a little over a year now, I'm a much better version of myself, and I've found a balance in my life that I never thought possible. I can honestly say I've never been happier, more calm and more productive. I certainly did not think it would be possible in less than a year. I started out so overwhelmed, but she helped me prioritize what I wanted/needed to tackle first and she provided me with the tools to remedy my most difficult issues/situations. We worked through my cognitive distortions one by one as they reared their ugly heads. She helped me to recognize them and then offered other ways for me to think about things. She also taught me the power of saying, "no, thank you" and that, not only is it ok but, it's necessary to take care of yourself and those closest to you. Not just in theory, but in real life. With her help, I was able to re-define my definition of success and get my priorities straight. She also put deadlines in place for me to make some of the hardest changes. I was resistant to this and now I see that's why she did it. She sensed that I desperately needed those deadlines, or I would've continued to give her the thousand reasons why it wasn't a good time to make those changes. Without the deadlines, I'd still be on that hamster wheel thinking there was no other way. I'm working less, earning more and my relationships at work and at home have never been healthier. I owe all of this to Brenda and give her the highest recommendation!!! If you are open to change and willing to do the work, you'll see results quickly. It sounds cliche, but Brenda will give you the tools to help you help yourself in whatever situation you are in. I'm happy to say I'm a believer.....cognitive therapy really works and it didn't take 10 years! While a "cure" is not possible, I consider myself in "remission". I still have cognitive distortions on a daily basis but I now know that they are just that - distortions- and not reality. I can now laugh most of them off as ridiculous instead of being riddled with anxiety. read more
