Not only do they have a dizzying array of gifts small and large, they also stock anything you need as far as kitchen utensils, candles, greeting cards, charming and unique knick knacks and countless other items too numerous to mention here. Pair that with amazing customer service and salesmanship either by phone from Ms. Angela or in person from Ms. Arielle, the staff is top-notch. (apologies if I mispelled, Ms. Ari;-) Y'all definitely have to come and have a look around. I plan on coming back in the near future for a more leisurely browse through soon

Best selection of knives. Was really excited to discover this store, and see that they take knives…read moreseriously. In Downtown LA there is a fantastic store that has an insane number of knives... maybe too many. This store claims that they they have the biggest selection of knives in New England. I feel like they have enough good knives to have a varied enough selection for different preferences, but yet not overwhelming their customers with too many choices. I got a great bread knife that I'm really happy with recently. It's just the right weight (not to light) and has a really comfortable grip and an "elegant" length. It makes cutting breads really smooth and easy to cut very thin slices. It is apparently their best bread knife, and at $150, I think the price is right. Despite being on Beacon Hill, I don't feel that their prices are high or unreasonable, but just right. The store is fun to browse through for many other kitchen or cooking supplies or gifts. As a well-stocked mom and pop store it has that quality of surprise at finding something you never thought about. The personnel is also very helpful. I've been there a couple times and they seem to be knowledgeable and willing to help, to explain things and answer questions. They have personal experience with the things they sell.

We stumbled upon Boston General Store & it's literally awesome! This store is a great place to go to get unique gifts for others, or for yourself, who don't really need anything but nice to have. I loved the stationary goods section and was ecstatic to find they had mechanical pencils with 2.0 mm lead! This was my favorite lead to write with growing up but I was never able to find them in the U.S. (I would bring these pencils back from Asia). So, it was very nostalgic for me when I saw them & wrote on the notepad with it! I didn't end up purchasing it because I found $12 to be quite steep for one singular pencil that I have no use for currently BUT I do see myself coming back for it haha. They also had a bunch of different home essentials like soaps, honey, & jams here, which I found to be pretty cool & unique. I would definitely come back again to grab some pens & to find gifts! Parking: meter street parking & parking lot behind Maruichi's.

It's conveniently located in the heart of the Square near Savino's, Ovenbird, and the Spirited Gourmet, my other favorite neighbor businesses. Curate is a bright little shop with a variety of classy and fun gifts, stationary, and home items that change with the seasons. I usually pop in to buy a card and a chat with the owner. I've found gifts for hosts, housewarmings, and occasions in between. I especially like their candle selection, many of which are soy based. They carry amazing scents from a small business in Rhode Island, with candles and lotions that smell exactly like the seashore. After a cousin fell in love with one of them, I bought a bagful at the end of the season clearance to treat relatives to a scent party. They also carry British Christmas crackers when in season (like now!). These are so hard to find! The crackers (beautiful wrapped cylinders that pop open when pulled to reveal little gifts) delighted my family when I brought them to our holiday gatherings last year. (Note that crackers contain a tiny amount of gunpowder and technically can't go on a flight, something I had tried before...!) Curate's products tend towards the classy side with mid to higher prices to match. Sometimes I just go to poke around and see what's new. They have some baby gifts and customized items for Belmont and Watertown, but if you want a wider selection, I would go elsewhere. The owner has also kindly offered to order things that I couldn't find directly in the shop, but I haven't tried that option yet.

I know people might be nervous about buying food here, but I've done it for years. They have some of my favorite chips - mango habanero. They also have a great selection of pasta and it's all made in Italy. The price is better than at Eataly or Whole Foods. I love checking out the puzzles and the books - they have a good selection for kids books and you can always find a craft kit if that's your thing. Also, they have a ton of dog and cat stuff! Toys, clothes, and scratching posts. The service is always very friendly and the line usually goes by pretty fast. It def is longer on the weekend but if you plan to go early, you'll be in better shape. It's right next to the T stop too. Not sure why the reviews are under a 4!
