When someone asks me what Happiness means, I will tell them "Flour & Chocolate Patisserie". This is arguably, the best bakery in Brisbane. They've won best Croissant and Best Palmier 2013. It's a humble little shop, but their amazing array of breads, cakes, tarts, pastries, croissants, croughnuts, brownies, foccacias, quiches, rolls and savoury goods, make them a standout. It's a view shared by many, because there's usually a line that sometimes goes all the way out the doors during peak mornings. Be prepared to throw away any ideas about what you may want, because once you go in you'll lose focus & end up coming away with more. Ooh look at that cake! Wow, that croissant looks delish! Is that a croughnut? That looks so good! See what I mean, distractions. Keep an open mind instead. As you walk in, you are greeted with this beautiful smell, a combination of all the fresh pastries, breads, and cakes, putting you under a spell. This spell, meant I was at Flour & Chocolate 3 days in a row once. Not good for the "abs". I also appreciate, how the staff provide excellent & friendly service each time I have been there. Our favourites are the pistachio croughnuts (cross between a donut & croissant - renamed "Gonuts"), the almond croissants, melting moments, the Flourless Chocolate & Hazelnut cake topped with dark chocolate ganache & toffee shards, as well as the sausage rolls. Prices range from $1.80 (for brownies) through to the high-end (for the largest of cakes). Closed Mondays & Tuesdays, follow their facebook page for their "Specialty Days".

I Can't. Even. Deal. This place made me loose my mind, I walked in and felt like twirling around and singing like I was on a hilltop in The Sound of Music. I think my pupils dilated and I went into a heightened state of being. I wanted to literally buy everything in the shop. The lady behind the counter actually laughed at me because I could hardly contain myself. My friend and I went on Thursday which was "Gonut" AKA Cronut day and I proceeded to buy 3... I ended up eating 2 that day, which was a bad move in the long term (I know, I know), but it was unavoidable. I got two Salted Caramel ones and a Cinnamon sugar one. It was like biting into the naughtiest thing ever, but sooo good. I'm pregnant so it's not even me guys, my baby that made me do it. I also bought a box of amazing petit four things for a friend's birthday, I really didn't want to hand them over, but I'm a pretty amazing friend. Sigh. I did have visions of being a Gollum and slinking away muttering "my precious!" I also had a taste of their sour dough bread and now I must buy this. I'm already planning when I can go in there next...but I swear next time I'll play it cool.

I left it a little late to try to book my deal goodies in, but a short and friendly phone call later, I was assured a next-day pick-up would be absolutely fine. The girls at Camp Hill were such a delight to deal with, and I really wanted to try a little bit of everything in the front cabinet... and the bread racks. My order was all ready to go, and I had to struggle to choose just two breads from the shelves as part of the voucher. I ended up getting a spelt loaf and a pumpkin & blue vein loaf. You did not misread. Yum! I got them both in freezer bags, but if you're going to eat them fresh, Rock 'n' Roll put them in a paper bag instead (it's better for the bread). I got so excited about the breads, I almost forgot about the other parts of the order - a family-size lamb & rosemary pie, and a gluten free orange & almond cake. The cake is moist and full of flavour (I do admit to Cheesecake Regret when I saw the beautiful lime cheesecakes in the cabinet, despite not having that as an option with my voucher). The lamb & rosemary pie? Absolutely delicious. Big chunks of tender lamb in a creamy sauce. I'm not going to lie to you - I've had it for four of my six meals of the last two days, and I might cry when it's gone. Or I might just go buy another one... and one of those sweet potato & onion loaves, while I'm there.

I hereby challenge you to walk past the window of this cafe and not do one of the following: (a)…read moreStop and stare (b) Stop and stare and dribble just a little bit, or (c) Stop and stare and dribble just a little bit and promptly buy at least one sugary morsel of wonderment. Channelling the window displays of boulangeries in gay Paris, this place knows the key to effective marketing: people with taste buy with their stomachs. Ergo; I clearly have taste. But honestly, how could you possibly deny the lure of perfectly sculpted and singed spires of meringue upon a lemon meringue tart? Or the incredible hodge-podge of chocolate meringue curls sitting upon a gateau concord? Or the checkerboard design of a chocolate lavender tart? Maybe on an empty stomach, the sweet allure might be less magnetised, hence why they serve up a mean all day breakfast menu - featuring the likes of eggs Benedict on a croissant and scrambled eggs on brioche. It is upon consumption of these that you are more than likely going to sneak the lemon meringue tart home for afternoon tea. Don't say I didn't warn you.

The shop offers a very wide variety of pastries and cakes, I'm sure they have to clean the window several times a day to get the drool off from those stopping to stare. You can eat inside or out, and it's usually pretty busy so best to try and book a table in advance. It's a bit too hot for me in summer, the air con is not great inside (might be to keep the pastries nice I guess) so I usually restrict myself to take home treats unless it's winter :). Definitely a good place for high tea or to take an elderly relative out for brunch...fine china and service. Expensive but high quality food and drinks.
