My eye was swollen, my vision started to become blurry, and it was uncomfortable. I called Atlantic Eye Institute to see if they could fit me in for a same day appointment. I was NOT holding out hope, but when I called I was pleasantly surprised they had something open that afternoon. When I arrived I filled out virtual paperwork, and then waited in the lobby until my name was called. I can't remember the nurse I had, but she was pleasant, asked a bunch of questions regarding the state of my eye, did some observations, and then walked me to an open room. Dr. Diaz came in happy as a clam. Greeted me with a nurse. I told her I was sorry that my eye looked disgusting and she smiled and said these are interesting to us. So that made me feel somewhat better. After looking at my eye, she decided to drain the stye, due to the size, the discomfort I was having. It didn't hurt, she prescribed me a steroid antibiotic cream, and made me a follow up appointment and I was on my way. I was happy and grateful they could fit me in on the same day, because I was miserable before I came in.

But never heard back for about 2 weeks. Then Summer replied to set up a phone call interview, no time frame for the phone interview was scheduled. I gave her my availability for her to pick a day and time she would like to do the phone interview she called me and I missed the call. I immediately called her back and was sent to her voicemail. The next day I messaged her on indeed stating I returned her call and let her a message, no answer for several days. So I came into the office to introduce myself since there was a bit of back and forth and waiting for a reply. I waiting 30 mins before Summer came to speak with me. Now for the interesting part..... I'll tell you. I have never in my life had such an unprofessional interview in my life!!! First of all Summer didn't introduce herself. I was told to come into her office and sit, no eye contact or anything she looked over my resume. And asked about why I left a previous employer and stated I have been to a lot of eye practices, stating that when she sees an applicant that has been to that many offices she assumes that they are a "the problem." I corrected her stating that several of the eye doctors offices were internships from when I was in College for my A.S degree as an Ophthalmic Technician at FSCJ. I informed her that I only worked at 2 Doctors offices and the latest one merged with another practice. Then the interview made a weird turn of her cussing at me and talking about how she does not tolerate drama, and went over the attendance policy. Her words "if you do not have PTO you cannot take off." " I don't tolerate the petty shit. I had taken a long time to get the office to have a certain culture and I'm not going to ruin that on someone like that." She even called her own manager a "bitch" which was super unprofessional. And talked about how her current manager above her doesn't do much and how she has so many responsibilities in her position. Summer also asked me about a former employee I worked with at my former employers office wanting to know why they were terminated and if he's a good employee. Again very unprofessional. And the interview is pertaining to myself not someone else! I felt like I was being scolded by my mother. I have never been cussed out and scolded in an interview or accused to being a job hopper or a problem! I understand every office has an attendance policy and what is not tolerated. But to be scolded and cussed at as if I did something wrong. Yeah no thanks! I've meet many of Coastal visions previous employees that left because of management, and I can see exactly why! Not the kind of place I would want to work at or my friends or family go to.

They called me September 18, 2024, DESPITE TAKING MY INSURANCE FOR OVER A YEAR AND HAVING TAKING ALL THE REQUIRED EXAMINATIONS AND EYE TESTS 1 MONTH PRIOR TO SEEING DR BARNHORST FIR A CATARACT EXAM AND RECOMMENDATION. It turns out the office wasn't taking the insurance fir many months and they failed to notify me. There was no apology, offer to use a different insurance or a call from Dr Barnhorst himself to potentially inform me, as my doctor, that a delay or reschedule until I could switch my insurance after the start of the next year would or would not degrade my cataract further. I wasted time and effort to go ahead with the surgery, including setting up friends schedules to accompany me to and from the procedure itself, time to see my primary as required by Dr Barnhorst as a pre requisite to undergoing the procedure, AND arranging my finances to pay thousands of dollars for Lazer and other non covered services. In my opinion, this was all on them, they offered no upfront apology about the whole ordeal amd blew me off with a master of fact call from their billing department! MYY RECOMMENDATION IS AVOID THIS DOCTOR ALTOGETHER. HES UNRELIABLE AND DOESNT KEEP HIS OBLIGATIONS. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND YOUR EYESITE!!

I get very nervous when I take medical tests of any kind. I was particularly nervous about this test as it was a retake of a prior test that showed a possible issue. But during that test, I had trouble focusing correctly to ensure valid results and had to start over several times. After discussing upfront my anxiety, Sabrina immediately calmed me by showing empathy and a desire to help me thru it. She explained to me how the test works technically and made me comfortable by adjusting the chair and machinery. She also patiently eased my concerns over "flunking" due to being a poor test taker as this test requires you to look straight ahead at a light and press a button whenever you see a light pop up elsewhere on the screen. She assured me we could take a break if I need to. Bottom line, Sabrina patiently and kindly built a sense of trust and caring that in turn relaxed me. I got thru the test for both eyes without any issues meaning I did not have to retake the test to get valid results for my doctor's review. Many thanks to Sabrina for her kindness and for her ability and willingness to take the time to listen and recognize my anxiety and adjust accordingly. She is an excellent technician as well as one who possesses great interpersonal skills which was very much appreciated and is a valuable commodity especially in the medical field! Overall, the eye center of St Augustine is great and I love that they have a satellite office in WGV. I have been going for many years and I really like Dr Nelligan as well. I will see him in a few days to review my results and for my routine eye exam.
