I indicated I would try. The next day I called the office to get the exact address (for map quest). Their system was automated and informed me a I would receive a text with the address to the phone number I was calling. At that time, I copy/paste that address into maps. On my way to the appointment, the office called asking if I was coming to my appointment. I indicated I was in the car and on my way. Upon arrival to the text address, I realized the text from the Dr's office was incorrect. The Dr. office had sent me to the incorrect address. I called the office and that is when the receptionist told me they needed to reschedule (I still had 11 minutes to make my appointment). Needless to say, this office has the the poorest customer service, horrible communication and based on my experience had no concern for my time (only the Dr. had to go to lunch.......almost a direct quote). I admit I was heated in my talk with the receptionist. As I had wasted 30 minutes driving to get to my appointment. I would not recommend this office to anyone who values their time as much as I do.

I called Dr. McAuliffe's office and explained my problem. In what seemed like no time, Dr. M. called me back. He was kind enough to let me come to the office right away and be examined. I end up spending a fortune here every visit. First off, they claim their "wellness exam" is not covered by insurance because it's all new high-tech testing that only they offer. It's a $30+ charge for that, if you want it. I described this and all the testing to my sister and family who go to different eye doctors and they all basically laughed saying that those tests are all normal eye tests that they do at their doctor visits and are covered by insurance. So I was ripped off there. They charged a "lense tutorial fee" just to teach me how to put in and take out contact lenses, my first visit getting contacts. Yes, this was an extra charge to show me how to use them. Once again, family members that all use contacts said they were never charged a fee to be taught how to use the contacts. It was basically just some lady sitting and staring at me anyway, watching me struggle the first few times then said oh you got it, ok bye. Ridiculous that now I've been charged TWO fees that would be covered anywhere else. Then you get walked out to "pick out your glasses". You CAN say no, you don't want to get glasses there, but I can't stand that they basically make you feel you need to buy them there. Some people getting glasses for the first time may not know better. And of course the glasses there are more expensive than Visionworks, etc. So once again, getting their patients to spend more money there instead of giving them options. My contacts were also much more expensive than needed. I was dumb and got my contacts there as I was on a time crunch at the time and wanted them before vacation. So they promised they'd be there in 2 days and I can come get them. When it came time to get more contacts, I priced our 1-800-Contacts who would mail me my contacts so I don't have to go pick them up, and they were $30 cheaper PER BOX. This place is a ripoff. They should be ashamed. Go to a normal eye doctor- one that doesn't try to upsell a basic eye appointment with "special tests" and "lense tutorial" fees.

For starters, Vue Optical describes itself as a boutique eyeglass shop with independent designer…read moreframes. That's a bait & switch. Few top designer lines, and those they list on their website - like SALT. - they have in barely a handful of styles. They also use some funky lab, and first filled my RX (from an ophthalmology office in town ranked on the "Top Doctor" annual list) - without my approval, I'm all about brands - with some no-name label that was awful. Vue said they couldn't offer Zeiss lenses, the very best. And then when we agreed to try Hoya (or was that Shamir?), it was done by the same lab! With the $1k "office" progressive eyeglasses I bought from them last year, I should be able to see clearly from 12 inches to about 20 feet. Make that 8 ft, barely. And I get headaches and sleepy trying to read closeup for more than 30 minutes. Plus, super frustrating on top of that, the AR anti-reflective coating is obviously of such cheap quality that it's almost impossible to get rid of the smudges - even with those special eyeglass cloth wipes or washing with dishwasher soap. The shop is pretty, and the 2 saleswomen are lovely. The woman who sold me the frames and lenses sent my eyeglasses back to the lab 2x to "fix" them. I accepted them finally because it was embarrassing, and despite her politeness and seeming patience, I felt like a nuisance and flake. I greatly regret not being more assertive and demanding a refund. I'm 67, and have worn progressive eyeglasses 30+ years. I've bought in my former towns - NYC, Philly, SF, LA. And I've never ever ever had a problem, much less this maddening experience. Ok, I've got to stop. I'm getting sleepy from typing close-up. I'm giving 2 stars for the pretty shop and nice saleswomen. And I don't like to totally slam a business. But I'm certainly not coming back here.

My 8-year-old daughter had an emergency after my toddler accidentally poked her in the eye and…read moreended up scratching her cornea pretty badly (we only found out later). She was screaming and panicking. She's normally a very calm child, so when she reacts like that, I know it's serious. Long story long, since this office was very close by, I rushed over because in an eye emergency, an actual eye doctor--with the proper tools and machines--is much more effective than a general ER. By the time I got there, it had been almost 30 minutes and she still couldn't open her eye or see, so I rushed inside. They were closing in 5 minutes, which I understood, but the very first thing the receptionist said was, "We're closing." I quickly explained that my daughter was crying in the car, couldn't open her eye at all, and I was extremely worried something serious had happened. I told her I was willing to pay anything for a quick consult. She politely said she would check with the doctor. She came back shortly after and said the doctor was set to leave soon, and couldn't see us since they were closing, that we should go to the hospital. I completely understand having closing hours, but when you're a specialist, and you hear that a child has an injury directly related to your field, you would expect at minimum a brief look, a quick assessment, or even some reassurance. Instead, they didn't even step out to see my child or offer guidance. They simply didn't care. For a practice that presents itself as a medical office, refusing to even glance at a pediatric eye emergency is incredibly disappointing. It's like a lifeguard who's off duty--seeing someone struggling in the water--and choosing to walk away. Of course you can do it, but is it the right thing to do? Even if you can't perform a full evaluation, basic human and professional duty would tell you to at least check if the situation is dangerous. I would never spend my money here with doctors that could care less under an emergency. I would not recommend them to anyone either. Maybe in the future the can do better. We did go to the hospital, they rushed us in, and then we followed up with a caring clinic (ponte vedra eye associates) the next day with a specialist that didn't even see kids but still saw her (God bless her) as the pediatric specialist downtown only had availability in a few days.

The extra fees at Visionworks are beyond ridiculous…read more First, I was charged an additional fee simply for using a credit card to pay for my eye exam. Visionworks is a huge company, so charging patients extra just for using a credit card feels unnecessary and frustrating. Second, I was told there is a $50 charge for the Optomap, and it felt like patients using insurance are being pushed toward paying for this service. If you want traditional dilation instead, appointments are apparently only available on Thursday afternoons. Making dilation available during such a limited time makes it very inconvenient for patients and makes the $50 Optomap seem like the easier option. The technician explained that many patients prefer not to be dilated, but I feel this may also be related to productivity and scheduling since dilation can take more of the doctor's time. Dilation is still an option, but limiting it to such a small appointment window makes it much less accessible. We already pay for vision insurance with the expectation that covered services will actually be reasonably available to us. Patients should not feel pressured to pay for an additional service simply because the covered alternative is intentionally difficult to schedule. I wish Visionworks would make dilation appointments more accessible and reconsider adding extra fees, including credit card fees. After paying for insurance, having additional unnecessary costs added on makes the entire experience even more frustrating.
