Our homemade tiramisu collection- when I say YUMMY!!!
Angela I.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!! The booking process for our cooking class was seamless. They answered our questions via email right away. The day of we were running a little late due to parking and it wasn't a problem. David, our chef, was superb! I'd likely ask for him by name the next time. He was funny and personable. The class was a great time and our food tasted amazing! Who knew making pasta from scratch was so easy!! My only complaint was after tasting the homemade tiramisu from the class, no other tiramisu in Italy came close! They set me up for failure!! I will use them the next time I'm in Florence for a different tour or maybe another cooking class.

I took the tour Uffizi Gallery and Vasari Corridor in the afternoon. The museum was quite crowded, but our guide Giulia made the visit pleasant and gave some interesting information, not only about the artworks but also about the artists' lives. The visit to the Corridor was great. The views from the passage are lovely and I love the Portraits gallery where you cam admire some impressive self-portraits of David, Balla and Fattori. FlorenceTown is one of the few companies to have daily tours to Vasari Corridor that is not open to the public regularly. I should say that our guide was nice and kind, but the museum's staff wasn't at all, being quite rude. Things I liked about the tour: kindness, organization, given information. Things I didn't like: time was too short

Great vineyard tour booked via Viator. Met at city center by our guide Serena who was extremely knowledgable and friendly. Visited 3 vineyards and had a delicious buffet dinner at the last one. Our group consisted of 7 people and we all immediately clicked. I highly recommend it.

The best wine tour guide: Valero!
Stacie R.

We are SO lucky that our travel agent booked this company for our tours! Far and away, the wine tour with Valero, a sommelier, was the best part of our Italian honeymoon. He turned my wine-fearing, Miller-Lite-swigging husband into a well-versed wine snob in a matter of hours--something I had been trying to do for three years! Our tour met near the carousel in Florence. An employee checked us in on her list and let us know that our guide would arrive shortly. She then pointed us upstairs to check in, where we were surprised with a gift of biscotti in honor of our honeymoon! :) We were then introduced to our tour guide Valero, who gave us a briefing of what our tour would consist of. We were surprised to learn that only one other person would join us on the tour, a gentleman from Tennessee who said he wanted to learn how to identify the best bottle of wine in a restaurant. Off we went in a Florencetown van, across the river and into wine country. The views were spectacular, somehow even prettier than the dreamy photos you may have seen of the Tuscan countryside. We stopped at a vineyard that also consisted of a B&B, which we took note of for a hopeful future trip. A local tour guide showed us the facility where grapes are turned into bottled wine. We learned all about the winemaking process, from how the type of wood for the barrels is chosen to how blends are created. We tried two wines there and were off the next destination. We stopped at the end of the vineyard to learn how the plants are grown, shaped, pruned, harvested and maintained. Throughout the tour, we learned about the Italian wine classifications, history of the wineries and much more. Valero is a serious wealth of wine knowledge--he had well-informed answers for any question we threw at him, and he spend six hours with us! After visiting two more vineyards, we made our final stop at a castello where all of Florencetown's wine tours stop for a wine exhibit, more wine tasting and a delicious meal. Oddly, it was my favorite of the trip--I couldn't get over the delicious offerings of bruschetta, veggie pasta, salad, bread, cheeses and the best dish, pappa al pomodoro. I can't say enough for the entire experience! The next day, we took the Uffizi Gallery/Vasari Corridor tour with Caterina. She seems to really enjoy her tours and is quite entertaining with her singing, dancing and funny commentary. It was a much bigger group this time, but still enjoyable. She led us through many of the rooms in the Uffizi Gallery, speaking about the significance of the pieces on display, before reaching the Vasari Corridor. We were the only group in the corridor, which added to its mystique. Without Caterina's insight, I don't think we would have made it through the rather crowded museum, and definitely would not have been able to visit the Corridor. Next trip, we will definitely book Florencetown for as many tours as we can fit!

Good views from the river. The tour guide kept yawning on her own tour. She gave us more details about the city on our 10 minute walk to the river. Once on the river it was more of a river ride than a tour. The place is hard to find. Go up the stairs next to the Hot Pot restaurant.

It was a Sunday in Italy and we were completely stuck with no transport. Thomas arrived in a lovely, air-conditioned van, helped us with our bags, and immediately went out of his way to make sure we had the best possible experience. As soon as we got in the car, he told us all about Montepulciano -- the best vineyards to visit, what prices to expect, and how to get around. We hadn't booked anything, but Thomas contacted his friends and organised everything for us. He even took us to our hotel, waited patiently while we checked in, and never rushed us. He then arranged a taxi to collect us after our vineyard tour and even negotiated the price for us -- something we never asked him to do! At the vineyard, he personally walked us in and introduced us to his friends. Thomas truly saved our day and turned what could have been a stressful experience into one of the highlights of our Italian trip. He was incredibly kind, patient, generous, and genuinely wanted us to have the best experience possible. If you have the option to book this service, do it! And if you get Thomas as your driver, you're incredibly lucky. Thank you so much, Thomas, for making our experience so special!

TL;DR - this tour is a delight to those who truly care about the entire winemaking process,…read morehistory, and culture. My wife and I planned our dream vacation to Italy with a focus on food and wine. Our time in the Florence area mandated the intentional trip to my (and now OUR) favorite winemaking area - Montalcino. We spent months planning and researching and came across this wonderful local company - "Italy & Wine Tours." Upon review of their website we were captivated by their intentionality to have the time be an intimate and thoughtfully curated all day adventure from Florence through the Chianti region, into the romantic hills of Val d'Orcia, and onto the hillside of Montalcino. To our delight - on the day of the trip we found that we were the only couple who signed up to go that day. Our tour guide Nicolò (who was INCREDIBLE and has formal WSET training/certification) was joined by the delightful daughter (Ippolita) of the company's owner. It was the best experience traveling with them. From the moment we were introduced to the moment we were dropped off at the end of the day we never stopped talking, laughing, sharing stories, and learning more about our favorite shared passion - Italian wine. Now onto the WINE! I won't spoil your trip with too many specifics, but our tour began from the beginning - how did Brunello di Montalcino come to be? We toured the streets of Montalcino and immersed ourselves in local history, tradition, etc. following the city, we were off to the first winery. The first winery focus was on the (traditional) aspects of Brunello. The centuries old family fortress made it abundantly clear. It was an idyllic location through the cellars, learning about the soil, property history for pilgrimages, ancient Rome, and crusades. We sampled 4 wines produced by the site which trended towards elegant, refined, and approachable. During the tasting we were blessed with a delicious and traditional private Italian lunch. Afterwards we went to the second winery which was slightly more modern (in winemaking style) but nonetheless a delight. We dove deeper into soil composition, weather, aging conditions, and micro-factors. The wine at the second location was big, bold, wonderfully complex and personally my preferred style. We concluded our time thanking our hosts and guides over and over again with multiple bottles in hand to bring home and shared with our family. We sincerely hope you (the reader) get to experience Italy and Montalcino in the same way we did. Personal highlights / Why choose this company: - historic, locally/generational owned wineries - not large corporate productions. - 2 production styles helped compare/contrast the same type of wine helping me choose future bottles more accurately. - The tour guides / owners. They care about you, and hospitality is so genuine. Please support companies like this. Thank you so much Nicolò and Ippolita. You are forever in our hearts and we hope our paths cross again in the future!! *David & Kenzie (Seattle, WA)

We spent the day discussing Italian history, culture, education, and different perspectives on life, which added tremendous depth and meaning to the experience. Niccolò is knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate about sharing his country with visitors. By the end of the day, he felt more like a friend than a guide. The wineries themselves were equally impressive. We especially appreciated visiting family-owned vineyards where generations of winemakers have preserved traditions while producing exceptional wines. The hospitality was warm and authentic, and each winery offered a unique glimpse into the rich heritage of the Montepulciano region. The wine tastings were outstanding, but it was the stories, family histories, and personal connections that made the experience truly memorable. This tour provided far more than wine tasting--it offered an opportunity to experience the culture, people, and traditions of Tuscany in a meaningful way. If you are considering a wine tour from Florence, I highly recommend this experience, and if you are fortunate enough to have Niccolò as your guide, you are in for a remarkable day. Thank you, Niccolò, for making our day so special and for sharing your knowledge, insight, and enthusiasm with us. We will remember this experience long after the last bottle of wine is gone.

It has been a couple of years since I took this tour, but I had a dream about it last night and I…read moreremembered that I never wrote a Yelp review about it - which is crazy because it is the best tour my husband and I have ever taken! Our day with Italian Days Food Experience was the highlight of our one month in Italy. I don't say that lightly. We've traveled a lot and we've eaten a lot. Still this stands as an absolute top notch experience in our travels. I highly recommend it to anyone! (I have pictures of the factories (cheese, balsamic vinegar, ham) and also of the platters of food served during our feast. I even have video of the parmigiana reggiano cheese from the vats into huge cheese balls that will blow your mind! I'll try to attach them to this review.) The out-going, energetic, and extremely knowledgeable Alessandro is the owner and tour guide for the Italian Days Food Experience. It's important to mention him because his excitement and intensity make a wonderful day even more fun and special. First an early morning visit to a Parmigiano Reggiano factory - so interesting - like something none of us had ever seen before. Starting with the big vats of milk and watching each process, step by step until it is turned into stacks and stacks of big wheels of authentic Parmigiano Reggiano cheese - The King of Cheese! You will learn the importance of DOP (Denominazione di Origine Protetta) the European Union system of laws protecting the names of specialty food products with a specific geographic origin. For example, authentic DOP Parmigiagno Reggiano cheese can only come from the Parma / Reggio region of Italy. It's sort of a big deal. Next we visited a small "farm house setting" where we ascended to the attic to see the processing and aging barrels to produce balsamic vinegar - Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena. I had no idea that for most Italians, making balsamic vinegar is not about making money, it is a family tradition and labor of love. When a baby is born a new batch is started and the barrels are carefully tended to through the next 20 years or so until both the vinegar and the child becomes of age. Then when that adult has a baby, the cycle repeats itself. It is a lovely and of course delicious family tradition. Last we visited a ham factory to see the hams processing. This was my least favorite part, but many people enjoyed seeing the hams curing and also the refrigeration unit. After our busy morning, we were promised a "light lunch" - which I quickly discovered was actually a FEAST. It was the most food I have ever been served - at least ten courses. The servers just kept bringing out platter after platter of amazing dishes of food - different types of pastas, steaks, chicken, veal, vegetables, desserts and of course always bottomless bottles of wine. What an incredible feast! In addition, our relatively small group (of like-minded tourists from around the world) quickly became friends as we bonded over our passion for food and wine. All the while, our guide Alessandro dashed from guest to guest, making sure everyone was happy and satisfied with the food and the service. That man is a delight - so smart, hardworking and passionate about his work. I don't know where he gets all of his energy, but it is lovely - the man is nonstop and wonderful. At the end of the day we were given the opportunity to buy some of the DOP products at very affordable prices, and we did, but there was absolutely no sales pitch or pressure to do so.

We actually got to see how the whole processing of making Parmigiano Reggiano, from start to finish, which was very enlightening. I have to say their Ricotta cheese is the best I have tasted from all over the world. Next we drove to a family owned DOP balsamic vinegar vineyard where we were able to see the process of making balsamic vinegar. Did you know it takes years and years to make just a small amount of vinegar. Very fascinating to hear and to taste. We got to compare balsamic venegar that isn't DOP and some that is. We were also able to taste the 25 year old, and 50 year old vinegar. This is tightly guarded as it is quite an arduous process, and very, very, time consuming just to get a few bottles out of the 25 and 50+ vinegar. Let's just say it's yummy. Make sure you buy a bottle while you are there. I didn't, and I could kick myself as it's more expensive is the USA from the same vineyard. Then it was off to the place where the prosciutto di Modena is made. That was interesting as well all these ham hocks hanging up, and the process of how the most tasty prosciutto is made. Final stop was to have lunch at a cantina on a sprawling estate. Great views. Did I say FOOD, lots, and lots of Italian food and wine. Very tasty and a good variety of Italian dishes. Then off to our hotel we go. We had our driver drop us off closer to city center so that we could enjoy the city before heading back to our hotel since this was or last night in Italy. She was very happy to oblige us. Such a fun day. I highly recommend this tour.

Other companies I contacted were only able to offer trail rides with horses head-to-tail. Simona orchestrated a private ride for me with a local horse owner in the Tuscan hills. I was picked up by their driver, Marco, in downtown Florence and delivered to a modest horseback riding school in Rufino, about 35 minutes outside Florence. There I was greeted by the owner and a bi-lingual instructor. The three of us set out on our horses, walking through neighboring gravel streets, behind homes where locals came out to wave to us as we passed. As we walked further up the countryside, we trotted alongside family gardens, and then took off into a gallop in an open field. Further up the hills, we galloped again right through grape vineyards. Our guide pulled some fresh figs off the trees and we enjoyed a snack along our way. At the highest point, I could see all of the towns below. It was truly breathtaking. On the way down, we walked through olive groves and enjoyed a few more figs. By the time we got back to the stables, my heart was full as one of my life-long dreams had been fulfilled. Marco drove me back to Florence and it was back to the city life. Simona called us on the way back to ensure the ride met my satisfaction and welcomed me back to visit them again if I were ever so fortunate to return. Paulo didn't have the most reviews online but every review I saw was 5 stars. This piqued my interest..."there's something here". We find ourselves walking in the front door of an old mom and pop shop bodega/general store. Paulo greets us warmly and we walk down some stairs to his basement. We're greeted by a pre set up tasting table that just looks fantastic. Paulo goes on to teach us about the components of the tongue and how the various fruit, nut, cheese, combinations hit the senses that just so happen to pair perfectly with his Rose wine--and that was just the beginning. To this day we continue to recommend him without reservation to all of our friends (with 10+ friends being able to experience his tasting, and each agreeing this was one of their best memories in Italy). We also continue to order his wine and olive oil direct to the US and his wine currently occupies the top shelf on our wine rack. Paulo, you're awesome!!
