Our homemade tiramisu collection- when I say YUMMY!!!
    Angela I.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!! The booking process for our cooking class was seamless. They answered our questions via email right away. The day of we were running a little late due to parking and it wasn't a problem. David, our chef, was superb! I'd likely ask for him by name the next time. He was funny and personable. The class was a great time and our food tasted amazing! Who knew making pasta from scratch was so easy!! My only complaint was after tasting the homemade tiramisu from the class, no other tiramisu in Italy came close! They set me up for failure!! I will use them the next time I'm in Florence for a different tour or maybe another cooking class.

Great vineyard tour booked via Viator. Met at city center by our guide Serena who was extremely knowledgable and friendly. Visited 3 vineyards and had a delicious buffet dinner at the last one. Our group consisted of 7 people and we all immediately clicked. I highly recommend it.

I took the tour Uffizi Gallery and Vasari Corridor in the afternoon. The museum was quite crowded, but our guide Giulia made the visit pleasant and gave some interesting information, not only about the artworks but also about the artists' lives. The visit to the Corridor was great. The views from the passage are lovely and I love the Portraits gallery where you cam admire some impressive self-portraits of David, Balla and Fattori. FlorenceTown is one of the few companies to have daily tours to Vasari Corridor that is not open to the public regularly. I should say that our guide was nice and kind, but the museum's staff wasn't at all, being quite rude. Things I liked about the tour: kindness, organization, given information. Things I didn't like: time was too short

The best wine tour guide: Valero!
    Stacie R.

We are SO lucky that our travel agent booked this company for our tours! Far and away, the wine tour with Valero, a sommelier, was the best part of our Italian honeymoon. He turned my wine-fearing, Miller-Lite-swigging husband into a well-versed wine snob in a matter of hours--something I had been trying to do for three years! Our tour met near the carousel in Florence. An employee checked us in on her list and let us know that our guide would arrive shortly. She then pointed us upstairs to check in, where we were surprised with a gift of biscotti in honor of our honeymoon! :) We were then introduced to our tour guide Valero, who gave us a briefing of what our tour would consist of. We were surprised to learn that only one other person would join us on the tour, a gentleman from Tennessee who said he wanted to learn how to identify the best bottle of wine in a restaurant. Off we went in a Florencetown van, across the river and into wine country. The views were spectacular, somehow even prettier than the dreamy photos you may have seen of the Tuscan countryside. We stopped at a vineyard that also consisted of a B&B, which we took note of for a hopeful future trip. A local tour guide showed us the facility where grapes are turned into bottled wine. We learned all about the winemaking process, from how the type of wood for the barrels is chosen to how blends are created. We tried two wines there and were off the next destination. We stopped at the end of the vineyard to learn how the plants are grown, shaped, pruned, harvested and maintained. Throughout the tour, we learned about the Italian wine classifications, history of the wineries and much more. Valero is a serious wealth of wine knowledge--he had well-informed answers for any question we threw at him, and he spend six hours with us! After visiting two more vineyards, we made our final stop at a castello where all of Florencetown's wine tours stop for a wine exhibit, more wine tasting and a delicious meal. Oddly, it was my favorite of the trip--I couldn't get over the delicious offerings of bruschetta, veggie pasta, salad, bread, cheeses and the best dish, pappa al pomodoro. I can't say enough for the entire experience! The next day, we took the Uffizi Gallery/Vasari Corridor tour with Caterina. She seems to really enjoy her tours and is quite entertaining with her singing, dancing and funny commentary. It was a much bigger group this time, but still enjoyable. She led us through many of the rooms in the Uffizi Gallery, speaking about the significance of the pieces on display, before reaching the Vasari Corridor. We were the only group in the corridor, which added to its mystique. Without Caterina's insight, I don't think we would have made it through the rather crowded museum, and definitely would not have been able to visit the Corridor. Next trip, we will definitely book Florencetown for as many tours as we can fit!

Good views from the river. The tour guide kept yawning on her own tour. She gave us more details about the city on our 10 minute walk to the river. Once on the river it was more of a river ride than a tour. The place is hard to find. Go up the stairs next to the Hot Pot restaurant.

Have you ever tried looking at your own city with different eyes? all of a sudden the things that you have always had in front of yourself appear different and, in some kind of way, magical. that is what happened to me yesterday during the visit to the Uffizi gallery and the Vasari corridor with Florencetown. Amazing experience full of details and passion for the art and for the city of Florence. Unfortunately the museum was packed with people so we couldn't experience it fully. what can I say about the Vasari Corridor? it's been funny looking at the Ponte vecchio from a different perspective and also getting to know all the different stories about the Medici family who built it and also some anecdotes from more recent times. Giulia, the guide, is definitely the most passionate and experienced guide I have ever met. in her words we can hear all of her love for the city, and I think this is definitely a winning point when it comes to guided tours. the afternoon included also a visit to their cooking school in St. Lorenzo area, which I also found fun, where they organize cooking classes. we tasted some schiacciata and pizza made on the spots by the cooks. I think it's definitely worth a try! pur visit was supposed to ebnd with a boat tour but unfortunately due to bad weather we couldn't make it. we enjoyed an aperitif in the historical seat of "Canottieri Society" by the river.

After the rude greeting, the experience itself went smoothly - the farm has great views and the chefs did a nice job shuffling us between rooms for maximum efficiency as we prepared our meal. It was a bit of a bummer to not be able to choose our own gelato flavor to make (the were 30ish people total so they wanted us to divvy up flavors). We also had to wait a while to make our pizza since there were so many people in our group, but there was wine and good company for the wait! They were running out of some of the pizza toppings by the time we got to making ours at the end, but they still turned out delicious! The chefs were so entertaining and the food tasted great - it was nice to learn the process to make such a delicious Italian dinner. I can't wait to receive the recipes to make this meal all over again!! Thank you for a lovely experience!

That being said, I attempted to balance guided tours with my own explorations. I did not want to be part of a guided tour all day every day, so when one of my colleagues recommended Walkabout I inquired to see what they had to offer. I noticed that they had a 3-hour tour of the Piazza del Duomo which included a climb to the top of Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore Duomo di Firenze. This sounded perfect, so we decided to book it for our first full day in Firenze. Prior to my arrival in Firenze, I received correspondence from Walkabout with details about my tour. Via email and Whatsapp, I was given my start time as well as where to meet and who my tour guide will be. I booked a private tour, and I assume that's why they asked me where I was staying since my meeting point was about a 3-minute walk from my hotel. We met up with Lisa at the designated time, who gave us a quick rundown of the tour and shortly after that we got started. We began the tour in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo - we spent a good amount of time here looking at each of the exhibits, and Lisa did an excellent job going through all the details and history not only of the pieces but of the history of Firenze that shaped what we saw. The museum is noteworthy that it contains many of the original artifacts of the cathedral itself (they have been replaced by replicas in order to preserve the originals). The original doors of the Baptistery are also here, as well as a scale replica of the first three stories of the Cathedral in its original form. After some time in the museum, we made our way to the Cathedral to begin the climb. It's not the easiest climb I'll admit, as it's 400+ steps and there are points in the ascent that are tight with steep steps - but I would say it's totally worth it as the views up top are magnificent. You get panoramic views of the city so my camera was constantly clicking. While the climb concluded our tour, our tickets did include access to the Bell Tower and Baptistry which were valid over the next couple of days which I thought was a nice perk. Overall my experience with Walkabout was excellent - Lisa did an awesome job guiding us through the exhibits; she's very knowledgable, engaging, and really made this tour amazing. I would have no qualms booking a tour with them next time I'm in Florence.

I have to say their Ricotta cheese is the best I have tasted from all over the world. Next we drove to a family owned DOP balsamic vinegar vineyard where we were able to see the process of making balsamic vinegar. Did you know it takes years and years to make just a small amount of vinegar. Very fascinating to hear and to taste. We got to compare balsamic venegar that isn't DOP and some that is. We were also able to taste the 25 year old, and 50 year old vinegar. This is tightly guarded as it is quite an arduous process, and very, very, time consuming just to get a few bottles out of the 25 and 50+ vinegar. Let's just say it's yummy. Make sure you buy a bottle while you are there. I didn't, and I could kick myself as it's more expensive is the USA from the same vineyard. Then it was off to the place where the prosciutto di Modena is made. That was interesting as well all these ham hocks hanging up, and the process of how the most tasty prosciutto is made. There I was greeted by the owner and a bi-lingual instructor. The three of us set out on our horses, walking through neighboring gravel streets, behind homes where locals came out to wave to us as we passed. As we walked further up the countryside, we trotted alongside family gardens, and then took off into a gallop in an open field. Further up the hills, we galloped again right through grape vineyards. Our guide pulled some fresh figs off the trees and we enjoyed a snack along our way. At the highest point, I could see all of the towns below. It was truly breathtaking. On the way down, we walked through olive groves and enjoyed a few more figs. By the time we got back to the stables, my heart was full as one of my life-long dreams had been fulfilled. Paulo didn't have the most reviews online but every review I saw was 5 stars. This piqued my interest..."there's something here". We find ourselves walking in the front door of an old mom and pop shop bodega/general store. Paulo greets us warmly and we walk down some stairs to his basement. We're greeted by a pre set up tasting table that just looks fantastic. Paulo goes on to teach us about the components of the tongue and how the various fruit, nut, cheese, combinations hit the senses that just so happen to pair perfectly with his Rose wine--and that was just the beginning. To this day we continue to recommend him without reservation to all of our friends (with 10+ friends being able to experience his tasting, and each agreeing this was one of their best memories in Italy).
