Nice small group of 8 for cooking class. Facilities was spacious, Stafano and Sabina were wonderful and funny host. Learning different types of pasta and sauces best for them, I never knew. We all had funny making pasta from scratch and learning when done right, our work surface would not be sticky. We made different shapes of Malloreddus and the Trofie. What an amazing class. On this trip, my family and I visited 3 cities, experienced so many wonderful things in Italy, and this class was by far, hands down, my favorite experience of the trip. If you're looking to take a step back from all the overwhelming crowds, the tours, and city life, but still want to have an authentic and absolutely engaging Italian experience, you have to take this class. I had a bit of an issue actually placing the order to take this class, but the online staff helped me through the process and was so great with following up and making sure we were all set. There were 3 of us, and we took the "Hands-on Pasta Making Cooking Class in Florence" with Chef Danny and Chef Laura. In addition to us, there was a group of 6 which made a very cozy, comfortable, pleasant and intimate class. The place was clean, welcoming and easy to find. These chefs carry so much experience, you really can feel it during the class. They kept it fun and organized. It was easy to understand, and they were so friendly and helpful. The food was amazing! After learning how to make pasta, learning about the sauces, they cook for you and serve you a wonderful Italian dinner, and my goodness was it delicious. Everything about this class was perfect. I have no complaints, and I would recommend this to anyone who is taking a trip to Florence. I highly recommend booking this cooking class while visiting Florence. It is a once in a lifetime experience and was the highlight of my trip. Everyone was extremely helpful and informative. They also gave us coffee and biscotti before the class. We made a salad, three different types of homemade pasta and a dessert. Each was paired with a glass of wine. We got to enjoy our salad outside and our meal inside at a table with everyone from the class. They also had some small, cute souvenirs along with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for purchase. We had a reservation for a group of 4 to do a cooking class. An unexpected change in our travel plans occurred and we asked if we could move our reservation to the following night when there were open spots available. They said no! I could understand if I were cancelling all together but I was told if I moved to the following evening that I would lose the money for the reservation the night before. This is ridiculous- I will be telling the travel agency so they no longer book with this place! read more

Be aware that MaMa Florence has an inflexible cancellation and refund policy. My family had reserved a cooking class for April but had to cancel due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Our flight had been cancelled ( all flights from the US to Italy had been cancelled due to the pandemic), the Prime Minister of Italy had announced a nationwide lockdown and all commercial venues had been shutdown by the Italian Government. I did receive a 50% refund. My concern is that because of the pandemic and subsequent shutdown, the cooking class I had reserved never took place but I was only issued a partial refund. read more

Our Mama Florence evening was so enjoyable. Filippo is obviously passionate about food and cooking and he's a great teacher as well. We got a good amount of valuable hands-on experience making two kinds of pasta as well as tortelli filling, and when Filippo took over to make other parts of the meal he described each step of the process so it was still informative. What a wonderful experience! This will be a great memory from our recent trip to Italy. Michele and Danny were excellent. We started with the walking tour of the wonderful Florence marketplace and tasted various cheeses and meats and gained great insights about the food and how to cook it. Then a nice stroll back to the Mama kitchens where the team, headed by Michele, entertained and educated us on our typical Tuscan 4-course meal and how to make it. Awesome! We had Michele as our host/chef instructor and he was fantastic! He taught us how to make biscotti, 2 kinds of pasta, one with egg and one without. Taught us how to make potato filled tortellini served with Butter sage sauce and the other with gym a Bolognese. They were both fantastic dishes and biscotti were amazing. As an appetizer we made fresh zucchini and caramelized goat cheese and 24 year old balsamic vinegar. The facility was top notch with a restaurant attached. Michele was a expert and we really enjoyed learning from and talking to him. The really cool thing is we actually got to cook in this class- which is so much better than watching someone else do it all. You can definitely feel confident in spending your time and money here- I can't wait to try out my new skills at home! read more

The recipes you can take home are also great so you can recreate the experience ( it is in metric though so us from the USA will need to google the equivalent). I was part of a very small class that focused on a gluten free menu. Yes, that's right, gluten free in Italy! It was a great day of hanging out with Chef Michele. As someone who has spent many years serving in restaurants, it was very fun to be in the kitchen. We learned to make gluten free pasta which I was able to replicate when I got home! This was one of our favorite parts of our trip!! My wife and I met Chef Danny in a Piazza near Mercato San Lorenzo. He walked us through the market explaining every part of the market and food vendors there. He taught about different cheeses and meats and how important quality is to Italians. Then we walked to Mama Florence where there two other people in our class waiting for us. Danny took his time explaining all the dishes we were going to make and was very patient with us as we were preparing the food. The class was so well thought out and the food was delicious!! AMAZING EXPERIENCE! Highly recommend! We took a group of about 10 people to this cooking class a day before our daughters wedding to an Italian man there near Florence. Every person who went said it was the best experience they had (other than the wedding of course!). We cooked an asparagus / strawberry salad with caramelized goat cheese that was divine! I never knew those items could combine to be so very delicious! Next we made spinach and ricotta filled ravioli that were fun t make and very tasty! We made the dough, rolled it out and filled and sealed each one. My brother-in-law was allergic to ricotta so they made potato filling for him "on the fly" and he was delighted! Then we made a stuffed zucchini with a meatball (different zucchini than we can get but great taste) with a yellow pepper cream sauce that did not even taste like yellow pepper (I don't like peppers much so made me happy!)Last was the most unique, easy and yummy dessert ever! Yogurt pudding with strawberries and balsamic....perfect! Chef Michele is amazing and the setting and guidance is perfect! My husband and daughter went three years ago and suggested we take the group there this trip - great idea and will be back again! Chef Michele is incredible!! He is knowledgeable, gracious, and welcoming. I always thought making pasta from scratch was complicated and beyond my abilities...but it turns out to be very easy. Chef shared his secrets for making perfect pasta AND made it fun at the same time. While we were concocting our four course meal (a rustic tomato soup, tortellini stuffed with ricotta and spinach, meat ball stuffed zucchini, with biscotti and gelato for dessert), Michele and his staff shared the history of the dishes, as well cultural and local customs. And the best part was eating the wonderful dishes we prepared for lunch paired with the perfect wine for each course. I live in Florence and every now and then I take a course, hit a museum or go on a tour. This time, I took a pasta making course with my daughter at MaMa Florence - when in Rome, right? I like to make as much as I can from scratch and learning to make pasta through this course was worth it. Not only did we learn about what type of flour makes the best pasta, but we also learned how to use one of those fabulous hand crank pasta machines (you will want to get one after this course!) We had a five-course meal starting with a caramelized goat cheese and beet salad, a three-course pasta tasting which we made that consisted of tortelli, gnocchi, and tagliatelle and finished off with a yogurt pudding with strawberries and apple balsamic vinegar. We also had prosecco to clean our palate and a beautiful white wine to complement the meal. This was not a run of the mill pasta and pizza class with barely any hands on time. It was a culinary lesson with Michele explaining which ingredients were used and where they came from. On that note, all of the ingredients used are pretty local and high quality and so is Chef Michele. I highly recommend taking a course from MaMa if you are in town, it will be a souvenir that you can keep giving. Finally, the class was small enough that we were able to really connect with the other people which made the whole experience even that much more special. read more
