Went tubing down the Tallapoosa River yesterday with Lazy River Rentals. I've been hitting up new…read more(to me) tubing spots this summer and trying to avoid the crowds in Helen and on the Chattahoochee. This is your spot if you want a true lazy river float. Before we headed out we called to make sure they were operating, tubes were available, and the water was moving. All were a go, and they even put in floats and kayaks up to 4pm on weekends! We arrived at 3:30pm, parked, and hopped on their very cool shuttle bus. It's really hard to miss their brightly colored, tie-dye, open-top shuttle bus. It was a quick ride down to the drop off spot. The staff gave some great tips and advice for the River, even if we decided to not go with them next time (which we'd definitely do this again). We would be a lot more savvy about parking our vehicle at the drop-in point after hearing about a lot of break-ins. It's worth it to me to be in a secured lot on the rental property than to chance it on the side of a road. The staff is very helpful with getting down to the water and for instructions on where to return. The return is always the most stressful part, to me, especially if I don't know where to get out at. We were told to look for the spot on the right side that had part of a fiberglass pool stairs installed into the side of the river bank. We had a double float with mesh bottoms and cup holders. The float was clean and well inflated, and roomy enough for both of us.. We placed our life jackets in the bottom of our mesh seats to help in case we ran across rocks, which we did. Once we got to our entrance point it was smooth, lazy floating. The water was rather low so there were points we had to lift up so we wouldn't drag. I don't think is typical though because we heard a lot of people (from the shuttle driver to other kayakers/tubers) talking about how high and fast the water was just a week or two ago when multiple storms rolled in day after day. It took us a little over 3.5 hrs to do the float but supposedly this other week it was only taking about an hour. That's a big difference! If you have younger kids this float is great when the water is lower because it's similar to Helen then. You won't need to worry about your kids on the tubes, with their life jackets on. There's a place about 1/3-1/2 way through the float where there's a small sandbar beach and a rope swing. People were having a lot of fun but we wanted to make it off the river well before dark so we didn't really stop, just observed and kept floating. The river was not overcrowded but it was a lot narrower than the Etowah, which I tubed Memorial Day weekend. However, I felt like the narrow river allowed for more shade and I didn't feel myself roasting in the sun quite as much. I brought with me my sunglasses, water shoes which were crucial for getting in/out of the water, a large water bottle, sunscreen, a snack, and my waterproof case for my phone. They do not have a place to store your keys so remember either a dry bag or somewhere safe to stash them. We will definitely be back to tube here, and maybe even kayak too! We were told the kayaks sell out quicker than the tubes so keep that in mind. They said Saturday they completely ran out of kayaks and cleaned out an extra warehouse of kayaks as well. Like I mentioned, we pretty much didn't see anyone for the last hour or so. Oh, and you'll know when to get out (if you're traveling all the way back to the facility) by the sign on the right side of the river. I would definitely recommend using Lazy River Rentals. The staff was nice and helpful. Go tube or kayak the Tallapoosa!

I have been there probably 5 times. Fun trip. Some swimming holes and rope swings.read more

As an active river type, my boyfriend and I decided to pack up and head out to Rome for a day on…read morethe river. Our expectations were simple: Tubes, music, and enjoying each others company. We put in the information for our GPS for River Ratz, only to be met with an old, dilapidated building beside the tracks. Come to find out, this was not the right location. So, we put in another address, which then took us to the drop off, still no place to pay. At this point, we're frustrated, so we ask the gentlemen there at the drop off "Where do we actually pay for this float?" He gives us the address, and yet again, we start another journey. We finally get to this bar called Cosmic Dog. The 'place to pay' was a pop up tent on a sidewalk that was leeching off of the Cosmic Dogs parking lot. The attendant was really sweet and personable. With that said, we quickly learned that at 11:00... they already sold out all of their equipment. We just drove an hour, to three locations, to find this place. She reached out to her team and she said they would get back to her. After 30 minutes, we come back to the tent and learn that she still hadn't heard anything. We asked her to check again, and come to find out, they could squeeze us in. We were happy to hear this, and decided to stick around. At 12:18, an hour and some change later, the 'shuttle' (which was an out transport van that sounded like it was about to break down) came to pick us up and drop us off where we'd just been a little over an hour before they picked us up. FINALLY, we get to the water. We're given two tubes, two life vests, and we're offered a tube for our cooler. We denied the additional tube and asked for straps to connect to one another. Apparently that was against the rules, even though they wanted us to strap the cooler tube to our tubes... After 2 hours of trying to get on the water, we finally get down the boat ramp (which is public access), and we get in.... The flow of the river was exhaustingly slow, you are in the heat of the sun for anywhere from 3-5 hours, and there are hardly any places to stop. We understand that this had nothing to do with the company, just nature. BUT.... Over the course of our 5 hours float, my boyfriends tube deflated 3 times, where we had to stop and inflate it on the bank of the river that did not exist. We paid $41 dollars for this... you'd think that the tubes would be good enough to withstand a gruelingly slow float down the river. At the end of the float, you have to 'stick to the right' or you will 'go bye bye' down the wrong side of the river. You have to get off at this boat ramp (also public access) that is surrounded by extremely deep water until you get up to the ramp. You hand a gentleman your tube, and then walk 'a couple blocks' back to your car. Ultimately, our first experience with this business was very underwhelming. It was unsafe, seemed like they threw the entire operation together in less than 24 hours, and then you get off of the river into the middle of a public boat launch. Not to mention the deflating tube that we paid $20 a piece for... and the exhaustingly slow float. ---------------------- If you are looking for a nice, comfortable float that offers some shade... take an extra hour drive up north and hit up the original tubing joints in Helen. If you are looking to kayak/ SUP, RIVER RATZ is the PERFECT PLACE FOR YOU. But us, we will never visit here again. Thank you for the experience and we hope you all the best, but our first impression just didn't work out well. ------------------ If you would like to have a better impression on your new patrons, post your current status on your website. Let people know that you are sold out. Get a safer, bigger van OR BUS. Let people tie their floats together. Recommend bringing paddles or ores to gain some speed on the float. Or just offer kayaking and stand up paddle boarding.

We went to Rome with a plan to go tubing. After doing research, we chose River Ratz. We were…read moreexpecting a 3-4 hour float but were told this morning that it would probably be closer to 5 because the river was "low and slow". When they tell you to count the bridges and after the 5th one to get to the right, they mean it!! After the 5th bridge, the water starts flowing backwards and it is difficult to get over to exit. I literally got out of my tube, swam and pulled the tube to the side. When they ask if you want to take a paddle, the answer is YES! And, I suggest getting 1 paddle per person. When they ask if you want a strap to connect the tubes, the answer is YES!! We had 2 people in floats and a cooler in the 3rd float, I recommend 3 straps so you are in a circle and not a straight line. You can take a cooler and I recommend going early and renting the cooler float for $10. The team that helped us at check in, into the river and out of the river were nothing but professional. I would do this trip again and would book again with River Ratz.

Went floating with Euharlee Creek Outfitters Memorial Day weekend. We arrived around 1pm and it was…read more4.5 hour float. You park your car at the rental shop and walk down to the Euharlee Creek to start your float. They will shuttle you but it was a short walk and we didn't want to wait for a shuttle to go a block with just tubes. We rented 2 single tubes (no doubles available), along with a tether cord to keep us tied together. The floats had bottoms and drink holders. Life vests are included in the rental and waivers must be signed at the rental office, so give yourself time before their cut-off to get in, geared up, forms signed, and ready to take off. The drop-in point is near the covered bridge and it is really beautiful on the creek. The water is clear and fairly shallow, but we didn't get hung-up on any rocks or shallows. It was about a 45 minute float down the creek to where it dumps into the Etowah River. My favorite part of the float was the creek float. Once you meet up with the Etowah River you'll almost immediately notice a lot of people getting in on the right side of the river. "Traffic" picked up a little on the river at this point. However, the River is so wide that we barely got stuck in spots feeling crowded in. Do keep in mind thigh with a wider, more open, River comes more chance for the sun to beat down on you. About halfway through the float you'll reach an island, which you can go to either side of. You can also beach here to explore, stretch your legs, or take a lunch/drink break. We didn't stop to play as we'd already been on the water about 2.5 hours at that point. If you do the longer float you'll know where to get out because you'll go under a bridge, with tons of sparrows underneath. Then you'll come to a bridge that is gone and there is just stones in the water. There's a small ramp area to the left behind the old bridge. That's where you exit and meet the shuttle to go back to your car. Tips: bring your sunscreen with you, even after applying before leaving on your adventure. We were told the float would be about 2-2.5 hours. It actually ended up being 4.5 hours and we got badly sunburned, one of us more than the other. Which brings me to the next point that I've learned several times tubing- ALWAYS ASK THE PERSON ON THE SHUTTLE HOW LONG THE FLOAT ACTUALLY IS. I've had this happen several times where the person renting the equipment tells you a certain time frame or instructions for exiting and you find out later the float is longer/shorter, or their were better descriptions for the load-out point. There is no bathroom at the rental house, however, there is one at the park across the street. There is not a store or anything very close by to get cold drinks or food so plan your trip and grab those items on your driver over. All in all, we loved our float with Euharlee Creek Outfitters. We will do this again but will be better prepared by bringing extra sunscreen and cover-ups with us.

I use their shuttle service to pick me up after my 10 mile paddle from Euharlee to Neely's landing. The shuttle service is only $15.00!! I also strongly suggest making reservations.

I visited big Canoe Creek for the first time this last weekend for an easy kayaking trip…read more My friends and I typically go to Coosa River adventures, but I've heard for so many years from friends that big Canoe Creek is really relaxing and a great time and I need to check it out. We were really looking for something a little closer and something a little more low-key and that wouldn't be an all day adventure. Big canoe Creek in Springfield was just that. It was really close to Birmingham and the paddle took about two hours with little to no stops. When we arrived, you park in a field, and then you have to walk a little bit of the way to the outfitter building. Let me tell you, this is not what I expected at all. This was so cute and quaint, and decorated with bistro lights through the trees! I felt like I was so much further away from Birmingham than I was and it really was a true family operation. The mom and son duo quickly got us checked in and told us to get our lifejackets and paddles, and then meet down by the van and we would head off for the put in. At the top where you checked in there was a food cart with fresh baked sourdough items and a sheet to send Venmo or cash app. The mom and daughter make them and it was just such a special touch. You bet that whenever we got back I purchased two things of sourdough. It was so good! You ride in a van to the put in and it was a tight fit, but it was a pretty close drive so it wasn't bad. The creek/paddle itself was so easy and really great for families and beginners. Me and my friends have kayaked a lot but we really wanted something relaxing and this was absolutely perfect. As you walk back to the outfitter from the creek, there are multiple campsites, which is a really cool option if you want a fun weekend trip away. Thank you all for such a great experience. We'll definitely come back!
