He opened the store for us and he filled us in on the history of the place and showed us how the mill worked. It was very interesting to us. We bought the grits and cornmeal that had been freshly done the day before. The restroom was locked when I went (has number pad for the campers ) So we had to ask for it to b unlocked. The restroom was very nice . They have a covered bridge and peaceful trails. The trails unfortunately are not marked very well at all. We were afraid we would get lost so we didn't stay in the woods much. They have a camp ground for RVS and plenty of space . You can bring a tent :) Nice, little side trip w/ a bit of history.

A couple miles down the road I crossed paths with yet another sign for Kymulga, to which I kept driving. But then it started weighing on my mind and I decided to GPS it to see how far away it was. 5 miles...I'm early for my meeting, let's give this a try. Arriving at the park they have very reasonable rates ($3.00) and the place (considering it is the dead of winter) is really quite pretty. Only explored for a few minutes, since I needed to get back on the road, but they have disk golf and hiking along with fishing (license is required). Several picnic benches located around the covered bridge. Would make for a fun spot to go do additional exploring. Will definitely plan a day trip here....plus based on the other Yelp reviews there seems to be some good BBQ in the area.

DO NOT STAY IN THE CABINS!!…read more Last night my wife and I swept the walls and floors of lady beetles flushing them down the toilet, since they are invasive. Around two we got to sleep. A few times we got woke up by a bite of two but most were gone or so we thought. We woke up to find the windows covered with them. We called again to ask for help and they sent down a housekeeper. After talking to a few employees we found out this has been an ongoing problem and that many people have cut their stay short. As I understand from what was said to me the management here is fully aware and wants to ignore the problem hoping it goes away instead of addressing it. This is a bad look for Alabama. If I travelled all the way here to stay in these lovely cabins and paid what we paid only to be swarmed by Asian Lady Beetles I would not recommend this beautiful park to anyone. It's not the bugs that give this a two. It's the attitude and lack of action by the management that got them that. The only reason the got a two is the cabin and park are beautiful.

The walk to Bald Rock is extremely easy, but there are areas along the boardwalk where you can step down into the woods and rocks if you like. For us, the highlight of our visit to the area was a hike to Pulpit Rock. That hike is a bit more strenuous, but still very short. I have indicated with a red dot on the map photo where this hike begins. The views are phenomenal. We actually enjoyed this hike the most. Keep your children on a leash.

Waldo Covered Bridge (also known as the Riddle Mill Covered Bridge) was built in 1858 in what is…read morenow the Talladega National Forest. It isn't hard to find, but does require a little effort. Located out of view behind Old Mill restaurant just off Rt. 77, you can reach it by following the restaurant driveway (which used to be the main road towards the bridge) to the parking area. The bridge will come into view the further you go back and believe me when I tell you it has seen better days. Quite frankly it appears to be in covered bridge hospice. While efforts have been made to renovate the bridge, it remains in a state of limbo since being condemned in the 1960's and sits inaccessible to the public without its approaches (ramps on each side that connect the bridge to the road). It is the second oldest surviving historic bridge in Alabama, but is in desperate need of maintenance and repair. You can visibly see the frame beginning to lean and looks as if a stiff wind would knock it completely over. Would be a shame to loose this 157 year old treasure, especially considering she stands in her original location. My favorite carving was the lion and the intricate lines required for the lion's mane. Not to mention we always enjoy bodies of water and there was a calm creek running within the park with natural plant life. It's like a treasure hunt! There are benches, pavilions, a paved walking path, and a creek! Also, the last thing we did was hop on that little train( which I didn't care to do at all without little kids with me) yet it was a shocker how that man driving the train who shares about all things throughout the event that you get to see again from a different view on that train...he was super awesome. I actually would have ridden that train and listened to that man over and over and over again. He was fun to hear from. It is not super expensive so do not resist to do it. Gather up your group or just you and your spouse or for take your kids if they are still young. This is for sure a fun enjoyable thing to go see.
