He opened the store for us and he filled us in on the history of the place and showed us how the mill worked. It was very interesting to us. We bought the grits and cornmeal that had been freshly done the day before. The restroom was locked when I went (has number pad for the campers ) So we had to ask for it to b unlocked. The restroom was very nice . They have a covered bridge and peaceful trails. The trails unfortunately are not marked very well at all. We were afraid we would get lost so we didn't stay in the woods much. They have a camp ground for RVS and plenty of space . You can bring a tent :) Nice, little side trip w/ a bit of history.

A couple miles down the road I crossed paths with yet another sign for Kymulga, to which I kept driving. But then it started weighing on my mind and I decided to GPS it to see how far away it was. 5 miles...I'm early for my meeting, let's give this a try. Arriving at the park they have very reasonable rates ($3.00) and the place (considering it is the dead of winter) is really quite pretty. Only explored for a few minutes, since I needed to get back on the road, but they have disk golf and hiking along with fishing (license is required). Several picnic benches located around the covered bridge. Would make for a fun spot to go do additional exploring. Will definitely plan a day trip here....plus based on the other Yelp reviews there seems to be some good BBQ in the area.

The hotel is still under construction. We had a pull through full hookup site. Packed gravel and dirt site that was partially separated by trees and plants. Joined to Cheaha Falls and Pulpit Rock. Both were absolutely gorgeous views. It was a great weekend getaway!

DO NOT STAY IN THE CABINS!!…read more Last night my wife and I swept the walls and floors of lady beetles flushing them down the toilet, since they are invasive. Around two we got to sleep. A few times we got woke up by a bite of two but most were gone or so we thought. We woke up to find the windows covered with them. We called again to ask for help and they sent down a housekeeper. After talking to a few employees we found out this has been an ongoing problem and that many people have cut their stay short. As I understand from what was said to me the management here is fully aware and wants to ignore the problem hoping it goes away instead of addressing it. This is a bad look for Alabama. If I travelled all the way here to stay in these lovely cabins and paid what we paid only to be swarmed by Asian Lady Beetles I would not recommend this beautiful park to anyone. It's not the bugs that give this a two. It's the attitude and lack of action by the management that got them that. The only reason the got a two is the cabin and park are beautiful.

Waldo Covered Bridge (also known as the Riddle Mill Covered Bridge) was built in 1858 in what is…read morenow the Talladega National Forest. It isn't hard to find, but does require a little effort. Located out of view behind Old Mill restaurant just off Rt. 77, you can reach it by following the restaurant driveway (which used to be the main road towards the bridge) to the parking area. The bridge will come into view the further you go back and believe me when I tell you it has seen better days. Quite frankly it appears to be in covered bridge hospice. While efforts have been made to renovate the bridge, it remains in a state of limbo since being condemned in the 1960's and sits inaccessible to the public without its approaches (ramps on each side that connect the bridge to the road). It is the second oldest surviving historic bridge in Alabama, but is in desperate need of maintenance and repair. You can visibly see the frame beginning to lean and looks as if a stiff wind would knock it completely over. Would be a shame to loose this 157 year old treasure, especially considering she stands in her original location. He gave us lots of information about the cave's history, took pictures of us, gave us time to look around at features he pointed out and answered all of our questions. I have trouble with tight spaces and this didn't bother me at all. The cave is very open and wide. There was a beautiful laser show at the end, we saw the liberty show and it was breathtaking. We enjoyed our visit and Josiah made everyone feel welcome and appreciated.

First, I don't live in this town but this park kept popping up on my feed as an uncommon wonder in Alabama, only 45 minutes from my house...how did I not know this?! Anyways, I took a nice ride to the town of Montevallo. Immediately, I saw families playing in the water, walking their dogs, sitting on the colorful swings, fishing and playing volleyball. What a great park to play, exercise and just enjoy yourself. There are plenty of benches and tables to sit, eat a meal, play board games, cards and/or relax and watch the flowing water or the bubbling waterfall. Now, let's get to the wonder of these tree carvings. Each tree is a unique piece of art. I can only imagine what goes through the minds of children as they walk through and see the faces and creatures that are so pronounced in these carvings...the stories that are formed in their little minds. Such a place to stretch your imagination! Anyone living in the area should definitely check out this park. I can only imagine the fun that takes place on this beautiful property.

I was surprised the whole time bc it was not something I would think to care about except for taking my kids to when they little many years ago. However it was actually so enjoyable and neat to be at. It is filled with so many people clearly for a reason. I'd recommend anyone go to it even if they think it's not their type of thing. It is very cool for sure. Also, the last thing we did was hop on that little train( which I didn't care to do at all without little kids with me) yet it was a shocker how that man driving the train who shares about all things throughout the event that you get to see again from a different view on that train...he was super awesome. I actually would have ridden that train and listened to that man over and over and over again. He was fun to hear from. It is not super expensive so do not resist to do it. Gather up your group or just you and your spouse or for take your kids if they are still young. This is for sure a fun enjoyable thing to go see.
