Tho is truly a must stop for those individuals into the shooting sports. I was blown away from the moment I drive onto the property. This $30 million dollar facility is truly epic and first class. The staff were extremely courteous and quite helpful with any and all questions and concerns. All the Range officers I interacted with were very friendly and super helpful with advice and suggestions from prior experience zeroing in and shooting tips/advice. Wow. I was really impressed with CMP. This place is huge. Lots of different ranges. You can use a golf cart to get to some of the ranges. The scoring is really cool. You can see where you hit on a screen right next to you. This is a professional range. The thing I liked the most about CMP was their emphasis on safety. Each range has a staff member assigned to it to make sure everyone is following the safety rules. All of the staff here were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed talking to each one of them. This is a fantastic firearms range that looks more like a country club than any other range I've ever seen. They have very comfortable waiting areas and large conference space areas along with some shops. This facility actually had more M1 Garands on display for sale than at their nearby CMP South Store. Not only does this place look like a country club but they also have golf carts you can use to haul your gear up to the main range if you want to use them. They are not playing around and have upgraded the ranges to the European style electronic scoring targets (Kongsberg Target Systems of Norway) so there is no going hot and going cold for target set up and target checking like at conventional ranges and you can see where you are hitting the target via an electronic screen at your firing position. Their long distance range goes out from 200, 300 and 600 yards and I wish they would also mark out the distance in meters and push out some targets to 1000 meters. Each time you change the target distance you are firing at all that is required is a quick adjustment to your local target computer screen. The only real downsides for such a fancy range are the benches and chairs are actually among some of the less comfortable ones I have used at civilian ranges. There are no racks for the firing positions so your options for bringing more than one firearm to the range bench would be just on the ground inside their case next to your bench which is the only place to put your firearms you are not using (so the addition of racks would be nice). They are also very strict about having a yellow chamber flag in any firearm not in use which could also be helped to visually confirm with the addition of racks. Overall this is one of the nicest ranges in the world and any sportsman, marksman, veteran or a new shooter would certainly be happy to spend a day or more at this amazing facility. read more

I made the drive from middle Georgia to do some garand shopping and intended to hit the Anniston AL store since the CMP page says the Talladega store has "limited inventory." The weather didn't cooperate and by the time I would've made it they were going to be closed. I figured why not check out Talladega and then check in to a hotel so I could go to Anniston tomorrow. If that's "limited inventory" I can't imagine what the Anniston store is. They have garands in all different grades and I ended up picking up a beautiful Springfield in expert grade. It looks like it is brand new! I couldn't be happier and the guy working the shop was helpful and friendly. I poked around and checked out the park a bit and wow! Everything is clean, maintained, and safe. Picture a fancy private golf course...now replace golfers with shooters. Definitely a family oriented place that is great for kids. I always knew the CMP talked a big game about junior marksmanship and all that but this place walks the walk! It was worth the drive and I definitely recommend checking this place out. Only three things I wish were that they had 30-06 rounds, that they sold extra en bloc clips, and that I had made a weekend of the trip so I could spend more time there. Electronic targets for riffle saves so much time and expense of bringing and replacing targets which leaves more money for ammo and speaking of ammo unless you got a bulk deal or something the ammo prices here are some of the cheapest in the state over the counter. This place is amazing. One location with many different areas, sure to satisfy every type of firearm enthusiast. It is a 500 acre facility, with a 600 yard range, a 100 yard range, and a 50 yard range. It also has 15 action pistol bays, a trap field, and a sporting clay field. A beautiful, huge, indoor clubhouse is at the front and center of the facility, with a small shop selling clothes, gun accessories, and targets inside. We went with friends to practice with their handguns. First we had to take a five minute overview/safety class that went over CMP's rules and regulations. Then we were given directions and drove to the 50 yard range. I've never shot at an outdoor range before and it was a blast (pun intended). The range master had to set up our paper targets, them we were good to go. Plus, there were metal targets to shoot at too, and it was so fun trying to make the arms swing around. I love that this place insists on yellow clear barrel indicators being put through the gun at all times when not in use to show that the gun is empty. I wish I lived closer so I could go here every week! read more

There comes a time in your life you where you find something hat is so perfect you do mot want to share.... this is such a place!!!! The targeting system they use is just like the olympics. And 20 bucks for all day rifle range fee is awesome... and before you ask... yes you can spend all day here.. they do not let you rapid fire so you take your time and make each shot count.. there is a range officer at each range that are very helpful. We will continue to come back even thought is an hour drive each way for us. Well worth the drive and money!! You have to take the range safety course before you can use the range, and your card is good for a year. One thing we did not use was the shotgun goof course. Some folks we went with did and said it was a blast!!!! Pun intended lol All in all this is hands down the best range i have ever visited.... and i was in the military.... keep up the good work!!! read more

Fantastic facility!! The personal here were nice, helpful, and very safety oriented. I didn't get to see the whole place THE PLACE IS HUGE. The targets are cool as hell it shows you on a screen right where you hit. They have a couple places to shoot sceet. A 600 yd range! And smaller ones. All very well set up. Creedmore has a gun shop right on site. Very clean and modern set ups every range. Me and my family will be regulars from now on. It's so wonderful to have a place like this right in my back yard. read more

I went to CMP Park, Talladega about a year after it opened. I had a blast then. But when I returned this May things had changed. All sorts of ammo and rifle/pistol combinations are outright banned, the staff no longer conducts the 'safety brief' so you will be sitting there for at least a half hour (felt like forever) watching a video, then you must qualify at each distance to proceed to the next. But the caveat is it must be at least "a group of three". Don't be fooled, that group had better be three consecutive shots and darn near be perfect. So, if you are like me, and just wanted to verify your 300yd zero, you will have to waste a half hour on a video, 20 min on the 100, then drive back up with all your gear to shoot on the 200yd, until your group is "satisfactory" to move to the 300yd, which shooting iron sights with factory ammo can be a challenge since any 'flyer' resets your group count. So, after about 3hrs maybe you can shoot on the 600yd. When I went with friends the first time we just asked to shoot at whatever range we wanted and the safety thing was done in person. Now, you had better plan on all day to shoot on their precious range, oh and did I mention, you can only shoot from the bench or prone? No other shooting positions allowed (except during matches) so you won't be able to practice those there. Plus it was $30 for a day pass. Waste of gas, waste of ammo, waste of money, and waste of a day. read more
