If you're looking for a range in Alabama, I'd recommend going somewhere else. They still require a…read moreCCW permit to join, even though Alabama went full constitutional carry back in 2023. The state law clearly says no permit is needed to carry concealed anymore, but this place is sticking to the old requirement just to be extra gate keepey about 2A. It's their private property, so they can set their own rules I understand that. But the part that really stands out is how they deny ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE members if they don't have a CCW. Let get real these are the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect and defend the Constitution, including the Second Amendment. And yet they're being told they need a government issued permission slip just to shoot at this range BWAHAHAHA. That feels completely backwards and disrespectful to those who serve. Most folks aren't going to go through the extra steps classes, fees, paperwork, fingerprints, photos, and waiting periods when the state already says you're good to go without any of it. If you want a background check just run every member though any of the 1000 background check sites. It ends up just being straight gatekeeping, limiting access to only those who already got the government's approval. CCW permits have ALWAYS been unconstitutional because the Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms without needing government permission slips it's a fundamental right, not a privilege granted by the state. Big miss for this range It's disappointing to see a place that's supposed to be pro-gun still doing this in 2026 Alabama, especially when it affects active duty members who just want to go enjoy their rights. If you're looking for a no-hassle spot with better vibes, try the Talladega range, Sentinals, or Hoover Tactical if you need a rifle range and if you are lucky just shoot at a friend's place if you know anyone with land no CCW anti 2a Drama. This one gets a 0/10 from me. Save your time and go elsewhere.

There's not…read moreanother range within 50 miles that can hold a candle to it, or compare with the Jon's management team, Lee and Dave. Safety is their first and most important requirement, and if you intend to shoot there you're required to take the safety course. You may think you don't need it but a refresher is always in order. An attitude such as I've noted in a couple of posts here doesn't recommend you no matter how experienced you may think you are. All the years I've been a member at FOP Pleasant Grove I've never had a bad experience with any of the staff. My grandson learned to shoot there because I trusted the quality and safety of his instructors, The only times that left a sour note -- and they've been very, very few through the years -- it's been because some member or visitor thought the rules were for someone else. Jon -- thanks for all you do for your members, neighbors and the public. In service, amenities and cost you're the best. Please use my name if you post this review.

First let me point out I don't hunt or own guns. But my son wanted to go here to shot some sport…read moreclays. You can rent guns and buy ammo there. It's really a very cool place to go for a weekend adventure with the family. You have a general sports clay area for practice then you have the course. You are give a trail map of sorts and a golf cart and off you go to the first station. It was such a blast. We have now gone there several times with the family. I always know it's a hit when my wife who never likes to do anything physical or that makes you sweat was all into it:) fun fun fun. If your looking for that one crazy weekend thing to do that you will talk about forever this is it. Yes and my wife shot like a sniper.

They make you feel like a part of the family. Selwood caters to both corporate outings and to family groups. They have meeting space if you want to bring some business associates. They have rooms to spend the night. The place is rustic - big fireplace - hunting lodge look - really nice - the rooms are also rustic each has a bath - they are built out of reclaimed old wood... Their meals are homecooked, and are fantastic. You place your order ahead of time for dinner, steaks for example - if you plan to spend the night... Breakfast is just what you would expect - Hearty. in front of a roaring fire. They have guided hunts, whole-day or half-day, with trained bird dogs and professional, knowledgeable guides in a natural, southern setting. The place is large. Many varied fields to select from - wooded, open, etc. They have sporting clays. I suggest that for a nice experience, get there in time to shoot a 100 round of clays on day one, then get up for a morning hunt. They have a very high tower at station 1. Birds are high up... My only complaint - the beds are often a bit on the uncomfortable side. ...don't know where they got the mattresses.

I took my son to the range to shoot today. As we approached the counter, one of the young men…read morebehind the counter asked what caliber rifle we were going to be firing, and I told him. He asked to see the rounds we were going to be firing, and I obliged, and gave him the five 30- round magazines of ammo we brought. I understand that confirmation is needed to make sure we didn't bring the wrong type of ammo to an indoor range. He immediately snapped at me "don't ever bring loaded magazines like this again". I understand that Hoover Tactical has policies, but I wasn't crazy about the idea of his tone and the fact he was talking to me this way in the presence of my son as I'm being a compliant customer. The man behind the counter emptied all of the magazines in a plastic tray. Again, I have no problem with this. As he was emptying the second magazine, he said "IM GLAD I CHECKED BECAUSE HE HAS ARMOR PIERCING ROUNDS!" He said this where there was no way that the others in line didn't hear it. I tried to tell him that none of the rounds I brought were armor piercing. I told him that I bought the rounds at palmetto state. He replied in a loud and arrogant tone "I don't care where you bought them!" I decided the best thing I could do was to let him conclude whatever he wanted to conclude. A few minutes later I heard him say very quietly "maybe they're alright". After he had unloaded the five 30 round magazines, I went to get the ammo and magazines from the counter. He said "Sorry I had to take them all out, not sorry for you, sorry for me". My line of work, I have to train with firearms. As a matter of fact, my employer has a contract with Hoover Tactical. It's a very convenient location for me as I live about a mile and a half away. But I don't patronize businesses that don't treat me like a customer. I hate leaving bad reviews, but I felt it was my responsibility to report the treatment my son and I received. It was unnecessary.
