Came into this place early before a Clones game. We were seated quickly and served coffee. We all had standard orders of pancakes and sides. There were only maybe 3 tables seated, so it felt like quite a bit of time for food to come out. When food did come out, pancakes looked great, but eggs and bacon sides were pretty measley. For $13-$16 plates, I guess I expected these to be a little more substantial. Food was overall good, but not great.

When we arrived at 8:30 in the morning, there was an hour to an hour and 20 minute wait so we put our name on the list and ran a few errands while waiting. it wasn't even an hour later and they told me my table is ready. We went in there and got seated right away. I got the chicken and waffles deluxe with the combo. The chicken and waffles is really good a lot to eat and the combo had a huge sausage patty. That was really good. My wife got the Frenchy and I almost like that as much as the chicken and waffles - I ate half of it one of my daughters got the waffle and really liked it. My other daughter got the omelette and at all so she must've like it too. I definitely saw why this place was so busy! Might be the best place in Ames to get breakfast. Just make sure you have something to do while possibly waiting awhile!

I've come to Flip'n jacks multiple times and I've always had a great experience. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. I would recommend getting there early! The wait time can get pretty long and a couple times I have put my name in and run an errand or two depending on the wait time they give because there isn't room to wait inside. Two menu items I really like are the hobo skillet and the chicken and waffles. I also tried the gyro omelette last time which was also tasty

The food was good and the service was fast. I had the veggie omelette, a nice combo of sauteed veggies and goat cheese. The pancake was thick, flavorful, and cooked well. I had a coffee drink called the honey bee with honey in it. Total bill was about $20. Would recommend

I had the chicken and waffles which I saw on their site. A little pricey at $17.00.It looked delicious. It actually turned out to be delicious. The waffles were advertised as being crispy on the outside and soft in the center . They were just that. The syrup had a good flavor to it and there was enough to cover the waffles and the chicken. There were some things that was not impressive. The chicken that came with the waffles was breaded and sizable but not seasoned at all. It was said to come with bacon but what was on there was barely noticeable possibly even bacon bits it was so small. The butter that came on top was very tasty just not enough of it for my liking. All in all it was it was a very good chicken and waffles but I have tasted better. My wife had the classic breakfast with ham and fruit. It came with 1 piece of toast. $13.00. Don't dissuade that from you trying it, that is just my opinion. The waitress was Malarie (pronounced Mallory). She was very courteous answered all of my questions and knew what she was talking about. It would be worthy for you to ask for her if you went in there. All in all 51.68 for breakfast was a little much.

The service was really great. The waffles were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They were huge and totally delicious. The chicken and waffles were delicious. Highly recommend this little place. It was clean and fit the bill for a quiet breakfast while on the road.

This place is just wonderful. It has a calm and cozy atmosphere and vibe when you walk in. The staff are warm and welcoming, ready to help. Now, I love a good breakfast and brunch place, especially when it isn't a crowded chain place. This place fits that bill. It is a local place with two locations. The menu is brilliantly "evil" making it extremely difficult to choose just one dish to try. They all look amazing and delicious, so of course, you will need to visit more than once to enjoy all that they have to offer. During my visit, I tried their cinnamon roll pancakes with eggs and bacon. Oh boy are they incredible! The pancakes just melt in your mouth, full of flavor. The eggs were a classic standard of scrambled eggs and the bacon I ordered crispy as I like a good crunch. My companion ordered the Hobo Scramble and just loved it. She made sure to take some home to enjoy for a second time. All in all, I enjoyed my experience and look forward to my next visit and delicious meal.

Early morning visit to Ames. We decided we were hungry. This was close and we had not tried it yet. It wasn't even 9 am yet. The parking lot was pretty full. This building is surrounded by motels and lots of parking. We walked in and were greeted with smiles. We were sat immediately. One of our table had to use the bathroom before we sat down. The door needed a little special handling to make it shut properly. Back at our booth we got menus. We weren't really thinking about going to a chain. We know there is another in Altoona, but not sure of any others. The restaurant has a casual, cozy atmosphere and serves breakfast and lunch. There are some traditional dishes on the menu and then there are some delicious looking options on the menu. I really was looking at some really rich options but I was really liking the idea of egg Benedict. Some popular dishes include chicken and waffles, cinnamon roll French toast, and Cluck Cluck Skillet. The blueberry lemon looked good too. Couple people at my table mentioned the King of the Hill. I decided on HIPPIE BENNY: Hickory smoked bacon, avocado, sauteed onions, field greens on English muffin topped with poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and everything bagel seasoning. I have never had field greens on breakfast meal. It was definitely different. I really enjoyed the flavor of the sauteed onions. My eggs came with a side of fruit. It was a really good cut of fresh strawberries. Everyone else got really good looking food. Both the men at the table got a side of biscuit and gravy. They did share they were a little bummed that there was no meat in the gravy. The waitress checked on us as we enjoyed our meals. It was all really filling. I could see the kitchen window from my seat and some of the dishes that came out were huge! I think that I would visit again. I would visit the one in Altoona too.

We had a short 10-15 minute wait when we arrived around 10:15, but it was so worth it! The staff were all super nice and friendly. I ordered a vanilla latte that was HUGE and was able to get a to go cup for it since I didn't finish the whole thing at the table. The strawberry crepes were good although they could've had more filling. My fiancé had the chicken and waffles which he enjoyed, but said the chicken could've been a bit more crispy. Overall good experience and the staff really made it worth it. read more

I was traveling through Iowa over Mothers Day and stopped at the Flip' N Jacks. I have a passion to eat at restaurants that are NOT part of a chain of places across the country. I saw Flip N Jacks as we traveled across Iowa..I was so impressed I had to write this review. Not only is the restaurant clean country fresh their food is delicious. I decided to try the pancake, strawberry, blue berries whip cream hot cake, OMG is was warm, fresh strawberries, blueberries and topped off with plenty of whip cream. The place was packed Our waitress was smiling with the help of her mom and other family members each customer seemed very happy with the service I am not from the mid west however I return there each Mothers day and I can say with confidence "I WILL BE BACK" read more

On this hungover morning or should I say afternoon, I decided to try out this place for the first time, I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with a side of bacon. There were good things, but too many bad things about this restaurant. Good: Service was friendly Our food came relatively quickly The restaurant is bright, clean, and comfortable Bad: The food is awful (1 star is generous): - the fried potatoes were essentially burnt, tasted like they had been refrigerated for a long time prior to cooking. - Eggs benedict is supposed to have poached (runny yolk) eggs. These were almost hard-boiled - The gravy (biscuits and gravy) is slop; starchy, sticky, and flavorless - Bad coffee - they used a reasonable amount of coffee in their brewer, but it is such low quality that the end result was bad. - The skillet meal seemed to have been made with last week's ingredients, barely heated, thrown together into a cold metal dish. Nothing of what a skillet meal should be. There aren't many restaurants serving breakfast in Ames. You are better off trying one of the others. read more

The food is alright and the service was eh. I went and got the king of the hill, which was pretty good I guess and my gf got the banana crepe, the downside was the service, they charge out the ass for orange juice, and when you get it, don't expect a normal glass, you get a tiny mimosa glass for what I believe is 3 dollars, which was extremely disappointing. It was fish Friday and we got the meal for $5(a great deal!) while the fish was good, they failed to give us tartar sauce (and utensils). I dipped my fish in the Cole slaw sauce. Omdog!!! It's been a LONG time since I had their coleslaw. And it's nearly identical to my mom's(master chef). I'd have to give west HyVee Market Grill as the BEST coleslaw in Ames. Even better than KFC. If you're ever in Ames, Iowa, Flip'N Jacks is definitely a breakfast spot worth checking out! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was inviting, with a beautiful open layout and lighting that really set the tone for a great dining experience. Now let's talk about the food! Everything was absolutely delicious! From the Mile High omelet and El Jefe Benny to the perfectly golden breakfast potatoes, everything looked incredible and tasted even better. The churro waffles were a sweet highlight, and the hot chocolate was the perfect addition to the meal! But what really took this experience to another level was Claire and her outstanding service! She was absolutely amazing! Great food can bring you into a restaurant, but exceptional customer service is what makes you want to come back. Claire delivered exactly that and made an already great experience even more memorable. Great food, beautiful atmosphere, generous portions, and phenomenal service! Flip'N Jacks definitely deserves its flowers. If you're in the Ames area looking for a solid breakfast or brunch spot, put this place on your list! And a special shoutout to Claire for making the experience that much better! Definitely a place I'd visit again! read more

The food and service was excellent (omelet, bacon, biscuit and gravy). The waitress was very nice and the caffe' latte' I had to-go was perfect. The only gripe I had was the country music was up a bit too loud. The food came out quite promptly and I would certainly recommend the establishment. read more

Placed our order and less than 10 mins it was all out. Ordered the French toast flight combo and it was delicious! My favorite probably has to be the one with the Strawberry Fields French toast - light & refreshing. Next favorite on the flight would have to be the Banana Cookie Crumble French toast - the fluff was so tasty! That was my favorite part on the French toast.
