Tried this place on a whim as we were in the area and our son wanted pancakes and french fries for lunch. Flip N Jack delivered! My partner had an omelet with sausage gravy on it that he said was true comfort food and would also be well suited for a hangover meal. I had the chicken caprese sandwich that was a mess to try and eat but every bit delicious. And then of course, were the pancakes. Fluffy, sweet, loads of butter and plenty of syrup. I had to sneak a taste for myself. We look forward to another visit here as there were so many tempting items on the menu. Downside, they did not have a published children's menu and they serve Pepsi products. read more

Our last get together as the Fox D+++++ Crew. All of us raved about their breakfasts. I'm sure that if we come back to Ames next season, this will be one of the first stops. Great food, a little slow because the place was packed, but we all were able to do individual checks without a hitch. Their people are top notch. read more

been here a few times, but went here with my boyfriend a couple of days ago and did not have the best experience. we waited a while to get sat although it wasn't busy and were looked at multiple times by servers passing by but never said anything to. i ordered a strawberry crepe and my boyfriend got an omelet. he wasn't too impressed with his food and mine was completely burnt to a char, it was so obviously burnt i don't know how it even got sent out. service was decent but kind of lost my appetite after that experience and was enough for me not to go back. read more

Nice lil place and real quick lunch stop. Menus on yelp aren't correct as I came to try the roast beef sandwich or the graziano Italian sandwich and both weren't on the menu (my reason for 4 stars) but I did get the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and it was really good. Kinda messy but you can't complain when it's good. Waitress was very sweet and made sure I wasn't waiting to long for anything. The inside is very nice and clean. Will be back if I'm in Ames again during lunch. read more

We first visited Flip' N Jacks on a Saturday morning. Based on the number of cars in the parking lot, we expected a long wait for our 6 person (plus a baby) party. To my surprise, we were seated almost immediately. My second assumption was that service would be slow since the restaurant was so busy. I am not exaggerating when I say someone checked in on us every 5-10 minutes. Impressive! The menu choices reflected the hours of the restaurant (5:30am - 3:00pm). This included a large variety of both sweet and savory breakfast options. "Traditional" lunch items were also available on the off chance that was what you were looking for.....but why? Everyone on our party agreed was food was delicious. The portion sizes were enormous as well, affording us many leftovers for another day. The only negative I could find would be that the menus desperately need to be reprinted. The ink used on them was easily rubbed off, making parts of the menu disappear. Check this place out! Honestly, I can see it becoming a favorite breakfast/lunch place for us. I just ate there, and am already planning my next visit. read more

Great service with great tasting breakfast. I ordered a skillet and had plenty for the cost. My husband got some French toast and thought it was some of the best he's ever eaten! Everyone was friendly and efficient. read more

The atmosphere feels very welcoming but the rest was not good. Sat down at a table that had not been wiped down. Host did come back and wiped it down with a very WET clothe and left us to use our napkins to dry it off. Ordered the breakfast sandwich and the sausage has no flavor at all. Like eating styrofoam on a wet piece of focaccia bread. I asked for the potatoes to be well cooked and it appears they sit in a pan near the stove and then served. Warm and mushy potatoes...not for me. First time here and probably will not come back. Our wait staff was great and very friendly so no fault of hers at all. read more

Wow. Amazing food and great service. I have come here a few times and when I come back, I will be back. Again and again. Super clean, bright environment. Wish we had this in Minnesota.... read more

This was the best breakfast of my 52 years! I had the chicken fried steak, which I could not stop eating. I chose the breakfast potatoes which had the perfect amount of herbs. Skip the ketchup they are too delicious to ruin with ketchup. Service was okay. Atmosphere is casual but enjoyable. They do have alcohol available but I had to stick to work appropriate beverages. There were a ton of coffee options to enjoy also. Stop in. You will be obsessed read more

Our first time trying this restaurant out and we will definitely be back! I couldn't decide between the skillet and the flapjacks and the waitress told me since the skillet came with a side, you could choose a single flapjack as a side! Say what!?! Oh yes! Both dishes were AMAZING! Fresh, delicious, and beautiful! My husband and son choose the Buttermilk Flapjacks with a side of seasoned potatoes and a side of corned beef hash (not pictured). The restaurant is clean, welcoming and a warm environment! The staff was pleasant, knowledgeable, and attentive! The owner was available and receptive to his customers. A wonderful experience and we are already making a list of the people to tell and share this place with! read more

Consistently excellent food and friendly service. ALL food is prepared from scratch and fresh (they don't have a food freezer). If I had one complaint, the serving sizes are often too-generous. 5-plus stars. Locally owned and operated. A gem! read more

First time visit today. We arrived about 1:30 and there were plenty of customers but not packed. THe place is cute and was very clean. We were promptly seated and the server was very nice. It took longer for us to decide what to have than it did to get our food I think. It was super fast. I had the MIle High Omelet which is very big, I could not finish, it came with a choice of fruit or potatoes and also a pancake. THe pancake was incredible, as was my omelet. My husband got a skillet and it was a lot of food. We both had a take out box. While we were there a customer was rudely complaining to the manager/owner and both my husband and I were impressed on well he handled the situation, even after the woman started telling him how to run a business. He deserves a medal. We will be back again. OVerall an excellent dine in experience and IT'S LOCAL. read more

We stopped in for a late breakfast. Waited on quickly. My Belgian waffle was very thick and hard to cut and swallow. Bacon was perfect. My husband ordered the pancakes and they were huge and thick.... Very filling. His ham and eggs were perfect. Wait staff attentive. But the the check was a surprise over $40.00 for 2 breakfasts. The place was neat and clean but we will think twice before we come again. read more

Stopped by after they recently opened. There were some issues and typical growing pains with a new restaurant opening but we were patient with the staff as our waiter apologized and followed up with us at every opportunity despite it being incredibly busy. The food was amazing, though and definitely worth the wait. I'm sure as staff gets through the opening quirks that it will improve but the food is definitely worth the wait! Great crepes and fresh coffee (freshly ground then brewed in plain sight) make for a wonderful breakfast venue! For those of you reading the reviews stating discrimination, etc. it's worth to note I'm not white, my waiter wasn't white, the hostess was white and I experienced nothing but courteous and professional service. Take that for what it's worth. read more

I have gotten nothing but friendly service and phenomenal food at this establishment. As for all of the reviews here about a racist owner - I can't even find the story on KCCI or YouTube anymore which leads me to believe the accusation/story was unverifiable. PROS: I have NO problem with the food here. In the 3-4 times I have eaten there, every dish was satisfyingly prepared and came in ENORMOUS portions CONS: My biggest complaint is the ambience. This structure is all metal and wood with no sound-deadening features. On our last visit, we arrived just before the lunchtime rush and the decible level rose steadily. At first, I could'nt make out the comments of the person sitting just accros the -- even with both of us leaning in. Then it became so painful that I had to take out my hearing aids. Even that didn't help. We both fled as soon as we could. My second complaint is the quality of service on this visit. When ordering, each of us specified "sepatate checks." Despite this, the waitress -- who appeared to have a shakey grasp of English -- looked around for help, apparently didn't find any, and wandered off. MY ADVICE: If you want to have a conversation during your meal (or even just value your hearing) AVOID RUSH HOUR or just order take-out. And avoid the big blond waitress. read more

Wonderful food! Friendly customer service! My wife and I decided to try this restaurant because we were in the mood for something to eat, and wow, we are glad we did. My wife chose the chicken nashville and chicken alfredo, while I selected the spaghetti meatballs and their trademark burger. The dinner arrived quickly and was freshly prepared, and it was insanely wonderful! My wife was unable to eat the Nashville sandwich because of the size of the portions. The location was tidy, and the prices were fair. Overall, everything was excellent, and we want to return for breakfast. read more

We've eaten here 3 times now and enjoyed all our choices. Portions are large and we could definitely share but we like to try different things.
