The restaurant had a cute decor and customer service was good but the food was disappointing! We ordered the usual breakfast eggs and bacon and also corn beef hash... the flavor was just not what I like but that's me... the potatoes were hard, cold and the seasoning was not what you would expect of a breakfast potato..A simple seasoning of just salt and pepper would've been great. The pancake tho I have to say was good.. soft and fluffy.... If ever back in town I might stop by for the pancakes..
My son and I eat here every Wednesday morning... at the butt crack of dawn. Like, the sun isn't fully committed yet and neither are we. Him Cinnamon French Toast. Me Ay Caramba omelette. He orders like a kid who knows exactly what happiness tastes like. I order like a man who needs protein and hopes the coffee hits fast. Staff is friendly, food is consistent, and it feels like our own private breakfast club. Great atmosphere. Five stars. We'll be back next Wednesday. And the one after that.
This my favorite place for breakfast in Ames and now my favorite in Altoona. You can not go wrong with this place. Whether you are looking for savory or sweet they have the perfect dish. The vibe is small diner but on a big scale. Everything is amp'd up a little on the dishes. I did the Funky Monkey crepes. Two whole bananas wrapped in delicious crepes and then covered with Nutella. Delicious. The side of bacon was very generous. The service was excellent. I'm excited I no longer have to go all the way to Ames to get their delicious breakfast.
Stopped for breakfast. Service was fast and friendly. Nice tables and booths with a homey atmosphere. Had the biscuits and gravy and they let me substitute cheesy grits for potatoes. The B&G were standard, after seeing what other people at the table ordered in wished I had gotten the crepes. Big menu with lots of options. Cafe drink selections too. I got the Con Panna and highly recommend it.
Our family tradition is to have Christmas Eve breakfast. Decided to try this spot as an online menu showed extensive options both sweet and savory. We arrived and were told it would be a 10 minute wait. There wasn't a lot of room or place to wait- the flow of the service stations and bar and tables is kind of interesting- so we waited outside as the weather was mild. We only waited 5 minutes. We were seated and drunk orders taken right away. The drip coffee was good and two in our party had the Honey Bee drink. Lots of flavor and whip. For meals, 2 of us ordered the huevos ranchero skillet; one side of sourdough toast and 1 with specialty pancake ($3 upcharge). The cinnamon swirl was very flavorful- crispier and firmer than my usual preference but the cinnamon and cream cheese drizzle overrode that small detail. My husband ordered the country fried steak which was huge- came with eggs and his size of choice was biscuit and gravy. We didn't have a meal the rest of the day! Our son ordered the breakfast tacos and they were the most underwhelming order. They were stuffed with eggs and queso but rather flavorless- maybe adding meat choice would have helped. Overall- the experience was a pleasant one with good, warm, filling food presented well.
I've been to the Flip'N Jacks in Ames and the service & food at their Altoona location was just as great. Also I had no idea this location had a patio- what a great perk!
It's a really cute diner with plenty of seating. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. I had the chicken sandwich with fries. My wife had the chicken wrap with the potatoes. I will say the potatoes are off the charts good. Fries are good and crispy, but the potatoes are another level. We also got a side of the smoked bacon to try, and it was amazing as well.
We were quickly seated upon arrival. The restaurant has a cool coastal theme. Our waitress greeted up promptly with a smile. The food far exceeded my expectations. I got the carnivore skillet. My husband got the cluck cluck skillet. Both were definitely enough for 2 people! I added a pancake as a treat! It was so buttery and perfectly sweet that I didn't need syrup. It's a good thing we don't live close by because I'd be here on the regular!
Hello yappers I tell you guys this place was amazing. The food was wonderful. Everything taste so fresh and it looked like it was so well thawed out to prepare. The pancakes are so huge. All I need was one that eggs taste like they walked out the back door and picked them and brought them back in and prepared them. I was in town to pick up my grandson for this summer and I was on my way out of Iowa and I stopped in here found it on the yup app and boy was it well worth it I will be back to visit you guys again two thumbs up customer service was superb. Everyone was so wonderful. The music man was really relaxing. I could've stayed there all day and hung out with you guys keep up the good work I loving it.
We waited to come here since it's opening. It always seemed to be so busy. We decided on a Sunday to have a date morning without the kids. We enjoyed the atmosphere here. It's really bright and relaxing. No tvs blaring at you. Peaceful music lightly playing. For the size of the blaze it's cozy and not loud. We sat at the bar for brunch and enjoyed it. The food came out very quickly and the presentation of it it really good. It all tasted great. I loved my pancakes. It absolutely hit the spot. They have a large drink selection for breakfast. Which is a plus because while we sat at the bar we watched them all being made. The drinks looked amazing. Staff's friendly and upbeat. It's a great spot of a Sunday morning brunch.

Food was delicious! The decor and atmosphere are a casual mix of farmhouse and modern. We went for breakfast early in the morning- large portions for each serving. Only draw back was we didn't have the best service the morning we went, our waitress didn't come check on us for refills at all, we had to constantly ask for different things and flag her down. I'd try it again as the food was excellent!
We finally made th trek to Altoona to Flip 'N Jacks. Definitely worth the drive. I wish they had call ahead seating. I did call to check if this was an option. They said no. Their waitlist before our drive was 20-25 min. It was about that when we got out there. (We had about a 30 min drive to altoona-so happy the wait hadn't grown) the wait staff was friendly. Our food came out super fast, especially with as busy as they were. Two of us ordered the Frenchie and two ordered the king of the hill. OMG we should have shared meals-so HUGE! The king of the hill were a huge bowl of food. I only took a bite of it (wasn't my meal) the gravy and sausage we great! I don't think if I oreded it I would have made a dent in. I had the frenchie. So much ham. The sandwich was a big sandwich. The "bread" was two slices of French toast. The potatoes were piled high. Sooooo good. Was well worth the drive. Would drive again......that's a big deal because ""I'm lazy"-I have so many places near my house (literally minutes from me, so me driving across town and saying I will do it again-is kinda a big deal)
The other food pictures brought me here and it did not disappoint. This location is right across from Adventure Land Park so i imagine during that season it can get busy. If i ever stayed @ Adventure land you can be sure i would be coming here to get everyone fed! The building looks like they started out as a pizza hut and highly modified it. The interior is super bright and welcoming. On our stop here clear from Indy in one shot this was a very comfortable restaurant to unwind in. I will probably make it a regualr stop on my trips. read more

The pancakes were outstanding and made to order. I asked for nuts inside the pancakes, they delivered. Peanut butter on the side, they delivered. The turkey sausage and poached eggs were tremendous. The service was outstanding. I will be back!! read more

Stopped here on the way back to Omaha after a work trip. Oh Em Gee it was delicious! Service was great - waitress suggested the strawberry French Toast after I tried to order the pineapple upside down pancakes (they don't make them anymore) & the suggestion was spot on. It was clean & there were rooms & rooms of tables! Nice place for people to meet, talk & enjoy the food. read more

Great experience but the potatoes had rosemary.... That is a personal preference. Had Benedict, burger, corn beef and hash, pancake and breakfast sandwich. Everyone loved it. Best hollandaise in DM. Everyone liked the potatoes but me and they were cooked well. Pancake was light, fluffy with a little vanilla. read more

While in Altoona today Pam and I ate lunch at the Flip N Jacks Pancake House and regretted it. Pam ordered the BLT + E + A - Avocado, hickory smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, over hard egg, and garlic aioli on multigrain toast. The fries were good but the sandwich didn't have a trace of flavor and the bacon was chewy. I ordered the Ay Caramba Omelet - Chorizo sausage, jalapenos, onions and pepper jack cheese topped with avocado and pico de gallo. The bowl of fruit side was good but my order likewise had no flavor at all, none. I doctored my omelet with salt and pepper as well as Tabasco sauce which did help a bit. The wait staff was very good but the food was bland, boring and a huge disappointment as well as expensive. We won't be going back anytime soon, likely never, too many other good restaurants out there. Sadly the Flip N Jacks in Altoona won my dreaded icky poo award today. read more

Family brunch took us to the new Flip'N Jacks Pancake House in Altoona. Greeted warmly by the hostess she advised a 40 min wait due to staffing shortage. No problem- We opted for seats at the bar and were greeted instantly by the friendly bartender. Complete remodel leaves a light and airy aesthetically pleasing restaurant vibe. Lots of options to choose from- We enjoyed the Cluck Cluck skillet, pancakes, eggs your way and an omelet. Generous portions, great price point- everything was hot and delicious! Highlights: mimosa flights & ample syrup/butter for the pancakes! Loving this new option in Altoona- we'll definitely be back! 10/10 read more

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon about 1:30. We were seated immediately. The waiter brought us water right away. After quite a while he eventually comes and takes our orders. We get the food and hubby's burger is good. He had to ask twice for extra onion. My hobo bowl was tasty and large! Eggs were rather hard & I had ordered over easy. The pancake was good, but there wasn't quite enough syrup. He never came back to see if we needed more water. I'm glad we didn't drink anything else because that happened before - - you got the drink they brought you no refills. I went and got a to go box on my own after waiting a long time. The guy had gone and sat up at the bar and was folding napkins with his friends. When I did that, he came over and asked if we wanted the ticket. Our water glasses were empty and he never offered more water. There are lots of workers and I don't understand why you don't have somebody going around and offering refills . This is the second time I've been here with the same problem. I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

My goodness we found by far the best breakfast restaurant. Flip N Jacks in Altoona IA. Great food, service, atmosphere, even the dishes that our food came on. Everything in my opinion was perfect. Nice Bloody Mary's and Mexican spiced mocha. read more
