Think CAREER, what do you want to be? A low voltage cable technicial? An electrician? You've…read morestepped into the right place. This is a school I believe funded by the state. It is free except that you have to buy the books. Back in 1996 when I was going here the books were about $350, that's pretty cheap I hear compared to your College/University books. You most likely have to go down to the Union hall IBEW 716 off of 610 North and get signed up to begin this. Classes were on Mondays for the low voltage apprentices, Monday and Thursdays for the electricians. Beginning time was 6:00 and usually lasted till about 10:00 pm. While going here you usually are put in the Union books for jobs that will have you punching down your industrial RJ 45 telephone/computer jacks, running 25 + pair back bone cable from the server to the actual computer outlets in offices. If not doing this most likely you are being taught the codes and precedures in installing electrical panels, grounding, pipe bending etc on the electrical side. The teachers here are VERY informing and are master electricians in the day time theirselves. If you care about your studies with the books and what they have to teach then they will not let you fail. Have you ever seen Fisk Electric or Melton Electric van just to name a few? These are the unionized companies where the apprentices come from and in fact that very same computer that you are using might have been worked on by one of them at one time. If I had to do it all over again, I would certainly always recommend here and do it again, You must pass a back ground, drug and aptitude test before beginning these classes.

I turned out from their 5-Year Electrical Apprenticeship program last year in June (2014)…read more I went from having an Associates Degree, student loan debt, and no serious earning potential into a new world with immediate and solid employment, medical and retirement right off the jump, contractual raises, and a well defined career path. You are provided with fulltime work during the duration of the program. Once you graduate.. the skills, work history, and credentials you have earned can get you a good paying job anywhere in the country. The men and women who helped me through the program are the best professionals in the trade, as well as approachable and helpful. Things are strict but fair, and you get what you put in. I recommend this school and this Apprenticeship program to anyone who will listen. Its a really good thing to be a part of.
