Just completed a 90min 737 flight and I would heavily recommend this experience to anyone. I had Grace as my instructor and she helped me to get into the air with no issue. If you love flight simulation and want a more immersive experience, I would heavily recommend. After bringing my EFB and setting up all the waypoints, we flew for almost an hour until landing. I took my son here since we were actively avoiding Disneyland and wanted to do an activity that we couldn't do back home. No one was disappointed that we chose Flightdeck. You have to call in order to book a session, so you can't really tell by glancing at their website if they have available sessions. The woman who answered the phone was very friendly, and we were able to get into a session on the same day, which was helpful. The session starts with a *very* brief instruction set on flying, with pointers on dog-fighting, taking off and landing the jet fighters. Then you go to an adjoining room to get into a flight suit, and head to the simulators. The simulators themselves are amazing - you climb up a ladder to enter, and the canopy comes down during the simulation. I found myself looking for the seat-belts (though they really are unnecessary - the cabin is stationary.) Each cabin faces a large projection screen with a HUD. Controls are really responsive, and it's easy to get caught up in the illusion! My son loved the experience - it was so much more than a great big video game. The simulations appear to be 'stackable', meaning that you can advance through the classes and receive more advanced experiences. I only wish I had time to follow through with more lessons before we had to return home to Ohio! read more

We then had time to talk about the other opportunities they offer and sit in the 737 simulator. They were kind enough to offer us a discount on the next level. Had my buddy's bachelor party here and it was pretty much perfect if you're not trying to do the strippers and booze thing (esp since neither of those things mix with flying). Since there were five of us, our reservations choices were 1) renting out the whole eight-simulator room and paying more $$, or 2) just going along with three other customers. We chose the latter, which I suppose is slightly less fun because you don't know exactly who just shot you out of the sky, but saved us a lot of money. The way it works is you go into a briefing room all together, get some training on what all the controls do and how to fly, then go into the next room and get into your flight suits. FYI now is the time to pee if you haven't. Then you go into the simulator room and climb into your cockpit. There's a test to make sure your comms are working and then you're off. It's a much more realistic (read: non-videogamey) flight simulator than I expected and probably the closest I'll ever come to flying. Thank goodness, too, because I was unsurprisingly no "top gun." If I had one [very amateurish] tip for dogfighting, it would be not to get too hung up on avoiding missiles. I literally spent about 70% off my time trying to roll out of someone's missile lock, getting hit anyway and then respawning. I think the half of the room that did better than me just took the hit and focused on shooting people down and having fun. After the dogfight, there's a landing portion, where you basically try to land your plane without either overshooting the runway or turning into a ball of flame. Our instructor said he'd never had every single person in a room land successfully on their first try. For some bizarre reason, the eight of us did it. Not sure whether he was just saying that to make you feel extra special if you actually do it or if we all just got lucky. Afterwards, you walk out and get a cool debriefing from your instructor about how everyone did. One more tip: if it is your buddy's bachelor party, don't shoot him down too much - not like I had the skill to do that anyway - and he'll have a much higher chance of being the top gun. Which is what happened with us. Bachelor party mission accomplished! Everyone I dealt with from the reservation process to the actual day of was super chill and easy to work with. It's not crazy expensive and you can sneak in a cool selfie just before takeoff. Highly recommended. read more

Here's to marking off another wondrous moment on my bucket list! One of my friends suggested our group take a break from our much needed Disneyland trip to try this place out. This flight simulator is the real deal - complete with pilot's gear, a quick briefing, and headset to communicate with your friends. Once you suit up, you get to climb into a cockpit and test out your flight skills (mine are pretty dreadful) via the large screen in front of you. For 45 minutes you get to shoot down others in your group (or in my case prevent myself from crashing into the ground). This is a really cool experience, but I'm not going to lie, it definitely brought my stress levels up (after crashing many times, I questioned my abilities as a pilot). At the end, you get to see your shot count (I surprisingly made it to 8) and how you rank amongst the others in the group (collectively my group had the higher shot count than the other group's even with my 8 kills). This place is bad as$. I recommend that you go with either the Delta or Echo mission. The Bravo mission is the cheapest but it's only a 40 minute flight and you can't do much in 40 minutes. For convenience, book your flight online. You're given a military aviation flight suit to be worn throughout the flight. You'll sit through a briefing which lasts roughly about 20 minutes. It's a lot to take in but you'll get the chance to practice and play around for the first few minutes in the simulator. I think they have about 7 F16 cockpits so a lot of people can fly and dogfight at the same time. The simulators are all stationary and you won't be able to feel the G-forces but they do have wind (or was it the AC?) and audio to get you in the mode of things. For those that don't participate in air combat, like me, there is an observation area where you can see all the action happen on 8 different screens. They have plenty of seating i.e. couches, office chairs. Depending on which mission you choose, you will be dogfighting the whole time as someone in the control room will assist you throughout the flight. Since we got the Delta mission, my friend got to experience the day airport landing, night airport landing, and the aircraft carrier trap. Very very cool. As you can tell, I sat through the briefing so I know me some lingo. All the guys on staff were super friendly and polite. I think this place is no doubt a great idea for a date. My friend had so much fun and already wants to come back! If not for a date then just come with a bunch of friends and have fun. read more

I'm sad I couldn't get a groupon deal for this place but it was still worth every penny! $59 for a flight simulator for the Fox-1 jet. I would suggest for you to reserve your time & day over the phone first as it seems that they do get pretty busy. I took my bf for a belated valentines gift & he loved it !! Pre-flight Process: 1. First you go to a small room to change into a flight suit (OPTIONAL) But it's so cool & fun so why wouldn't you?? Haha. 2. Then you go into another room where an instructor teaches you how to take off, land, combat fighting, brake, shoot missiles, etc. (the class was about 15-20 mins I wanna say) Flight: 1. You are each assigned a jet where an instructor will help you on a ladder to get inside 2. You then put on your headset and wait until you're clear for take off 3. They give you 5 mins to take off and to practice flying and turning so you can get the hang of it 4. COMBAT TIME!!! Kill and avoid getting killed lol. This part was fun, but I didn't get much kills :( 5. Finally you go through 4 landings (2 day time + 2 night time) 6. After your flight, the instructors will give you scores based on how many kills you got and how well you landed. But just so you're aware, they do this in front of everyone including people that are waiting for their own flight lol it was quite embarrassing for me since I only got a score of 8 !!! So my bf loves Top Gun and it's the bf's birthday. I started off the day by surprising him with an original 1986 F-14A Top Gun model plane. With that said, Groupon to the rescue for this place at half the price. Bought it and made the reservation for 7pm. The place is real huge and open. Everyone was pretty nice. The bf definitely transformed into a big kid. We went into the "briefing room" where one of the trainers, Kevin, gave us instructions on how to "fly." Once that was done, we got into our flight suits. Pretty awesome! Then headed to the very detailed, stationary cock pits that was in front of a very large screen. We had our headsets on where we can hear and communicate with the flight crew. That was my favorite part. I sucked at first then kinda got the hang out of it. Heeeey, I landed two out 4 times, not bad for a noob. When we finished, we were able to take as many pictures as we wanted. They were cool like that. How can I put this.... I was both intrigued and let down... I really expected for SOME ODD reason to be able to feel the air plane swerve and maneuver through the air. This my friend is just a big ass video game. And I kick ass in video games ^_^!! So you come in and you get suited up. I'm a shorty so the attendant tried to give me the smallest size but it was still a bit baggy on my dwarf frame. But boy did I get in the mood, ready to trick on the rest of these snitches. (I was the only lady btw). After the briefing, in which I couldn't pay attention to fully, we were ready to lock and load. Your escorted to larger room filled with model jets and big screens. (ahhhhh!!) Once I daintily hopped in my plane ( I was wearing 5in wedges, cute but not practical for climbing) we awaiting instruction. You get a few practice rounds before the fight just to get used to the buttons and how to maneuver in the air. Take this time to familiarize yourself with the weaker players. This will be who you shall target when the war begins. But also make sure you aren't the weak link and figure out what the freak all the buttons do. Overall FUN time. Great not so typical date that is sure to excite people who like games. I was surprisingly good at it AND i landed the plane 1 out of the 2 attempts while my bf died both times!! YAY ME! Plus its close to Downtown Disney, you can start the date here and end it with some shopping/dining down the street. Being a avid fan of flight sims as a kid and always loved TOP GUN who wouldn't want to live out their fantasy of air two air combat in the safety of your own cockpit? We got a coupon from a dealperk offer so why not! This place was alittle difficult to find since the sign was hard to see from the road. Just lookout for the big US flag hanging by the door. Upon entered we were greeted by the super friendly staff asking us to fill out a quick preregistration form. Then we were ushered inside to get suited up with the rest of our group. Our group was being lead by staffer call sign "Gums" cause he talks alot? lol. After a quick briefing in the training room on how to operate the controls we all got assigned into our cockpits. The real fun began then as we started off with takes with a quick time for practice and the best part DOGFIGHTS. Since we had 2 ringers in our group they pretty much kicked all our asses. But it was still fun nonetheless. It definitely takes some time to get used to the controls but once you get the hang of it its a total BLAST literally. As you chase your fellow group members which the control tower guides/assists you over the headsets. I had a couple technical issues with my cockpit too but the staff quickly moved me to another open cockpit in the back. They even let us do an extra attempt at the daytime landing exercise because of all the technical difficulties. It's definitely a test of hand-eye coordination trying to land on the carrier exercise too. It didn't help the control tower accidentally hit my afterburner button so i crashed miserably into the ship LOL. But again they let us do a makeup round for the big OOPS. I definitely would recommend this place for anyone that loves planes and flying. read more

Then proceeded to the 737 simulator where my son got more than a full hour of flying and I was able to sit right behind him and observe and film his experience. It totally felt like we were flying and the instructor was excellent and very knowledgeable. My son loved it and we would definitely recommend this experience. This review is biased since I didnt pay a dime for this experience. A friend for a groupon deal and four of us went down for the FOX-1 flight experience. At first I was a bit let down that the simulators do not articulate but I can understand why: if they did, it would be far more expensive than the $59 asking price. The simulators are pretty detailed mock-ups of F-16 cockpits and one would assume they could be configured to be more realistic. There are buttons and switches and levers all over the place. But for our flight we just used the throttle and stick. Basically youre playing a video game and anyone familiar with arcade flight games will pick up the basics easily. The FOX-1 experience includes a pre-flight instructional course to help familiarize new pilots to the controls, a take off scenario that doubles as flight practice, a 30 minute dog fight against your group as well as FlightDeck employees and finally a couple of landing scenarios. All in all it is a very fun experience and I wouldnt hesitate to return. read more

Since I was in the area and had some time to kill for the evening I called and made a reservation to fly a F-16 simulator at Flightdeck. I had been to the previous incarnations of Fightertown in Lake Forest that closed in 1995 and Flightline which met a similar fate. Flightdeck is located in a business park near the Angels Stadium and make sure to google map the directions as it is very hard to find if you don't know where you are going. Their website is pretty limited on details and could use an update. I arrived early to check things out the was invited to sit in the lounge area and watch the action on a couple of LCD screens that showed what the current pilots were doing. The rest of my "flight" showed up and were a pair of cuties that the instructors started making over like a bunch of inept private school boys and as the result I did not get much if any attention during the prebriefing. Fortunately for me I have a lot of "real" and "sim" flight time and have flown high performance jets, so the briefing was purely academic for me, but I did not let on I had any prior experience. I asked about rudder pedals and to my instructors surprise I even knew anything about the controls (still eye locked on the cute females)! After that he seemed to notice I was in the room and actually answered my questions. One complaint is they do not have a cockpit procedure trainer which would help familiarize with all the critical switch locations and hat switch functions. Since I had asked about rudder petals they put me in the one simulator that had them still installed. I was given a brief briefing on the controls in the actual simulator, and they dropped the canopy only to find finger prints and someones grease pen markings! They soon found out I knew how to fly, but I was tired from a lengthy stressful briefing earlier that day and had not had much to eat, so I was not on top of my game. I had problems hitting the switches for the missiles and guns and the hat switch for the views which gave me a handicap with one of the cuties that really had a knack for flying and the other was just clueless. I soon figured out it was an enhanced version of Falcon 4.0 they were using for the simulator as I recognized the Korea map. You also get a try at landing a simulated F-14 on a carrier after you are done free flight against Mig-29s and Mig-31s and then each other. A bit expensive for what you get, but if you are an armchair fighter pilot or have time to kill in the area I would recommend. read more

I appreciate being able to get picked up and dropped off through the convenience of the Flight Deck shuttle (for smaller groups) Couldn't have asked for a better team building experience. Stretch did a stellar job with prepping the group by being incredibly thorough (even with us being a particularly rambunctious crowd.) Wiki had AWESOME energy and really gave it his all with the two individual groups when we were split up to keep us challenged and entertained while waiting for the other group to participate in the dog fight. There was another young man that helped us get flight suited up (can't remember his call sign, for some reason the name Rabbit keeps coming to mind but that doesn't sound right) and he was SUPER friendly and helpful. As a side note - more than half of our team joined us in the last 6 months, at least a fourth has only been with the company for less than a year, and the last fourth are long tenured team members. Attended our first session last week & it was THE BEST!!! Our flight instructor Rabbit was AWESOME :) The intro and training was thorough. You have the option of suiting up and I suggest that you take the opportunity to get into gear & dive into to the experience 100%! (Don't worry they wash the suits after each use, lol) In the simulator you will have some time to practice, then get into a dog fight with your fellow attendees (or AI and maybe the Flightdeck crew), and your final test is to land your fighter jet on runway. This experience was so cool. I've played the flight simulator games at arcades but nothing like getting in a real cockpit! I did the Fox1 Fighter Jet experience. You suit up in your pilots gear, do 30 minutes of training, then dogfight for 45 minutes. I'll admit that I wasn't the Top Gun, but I got 2nd most kills :). The whole thing from the training to the base communicating with you while you fly feels like the real deal. To the point that I was getting nervous before take off that I didn't listen close enough in class about the controls and might crash my plane. There's also a Boeing flight simulator that looked AWESOME. I'm going to go back and try that for sure. Basically - you need to do this. Just hope you're not in the sky with me, because I will barrel roll around you and blow you up. And then land and make smores over your planes fire. read more

This is one of the coolest things I've ever done! If you want to know how to fly a Jet and be able to Dog Fight with your friends on a F-15, this is the place to go. What can go wrong? You're experiencing a simulation that makes you feel like you're doing the real thing without having to feel bad about crashing a multi-million dollar equipment. So when you start, you follow the instructor into a dressing room where you go into these sweet jumpsuits so you feel like a real pilot. They have sizes for just about everyone and you don't have to wear one if you don't want to. Afterwards, you are then instructed into the briefing room where we are given a crash course of flying. It is a lot of information in a compact amount of time. It's no worry, because once you get onto the simulation, they will repeat instructions if you forget and you can always ask questions. After the training, you are then on to the flying simulation! You are walking into probably the coolest arcade room filled with a dozen cockpits that look like they are cropped right of a real jet. This is basically a big boy's playroom! Each cockpit is 4-6 feet up so you have to be escorted up through a stepladder. Once you are in the cockpit and they close you in with the window door, you are totally immersed as feeling how real it could be. The cockpit has hundreds of buttons lit up and having now idea what they do. Every cockpit faces a huge screen that shows you the simulation. My only thing would be that the graphics could be updated. Graphics nowadays on consoles and PC are pristine, and edges close to realism. The graphics on this simulation are stuck in the late 90's graphics, but it did not halter the experience. The only time you tell its off graphics is when you crash and you see the explosions and the pixelated fire and smoke mushroom out.The gameplay and feel were off the charts, so it compromised the outdated graphics. I can not complain of the experience, but I think for a competitive edge, all aspects should be on point. The handles and figuring out how to fly the jet came on pretty easily for me considering, I have a toy drone at home and I play video games. Some of my friends got the handles as well and one of my friends just for the life of her, could not fly the plane. I ended up winning in my kills in the dog fight and landing skills so I was happy to say I beat all competition. I definitely would recommend this to anyone and plan to go again sometime. I took my boyfriend here as a surprise for his birthday...and boy, did he love it! I was super proud of my choice because as soon as we got off the freeway, he excitedly saw the Flightdeck Air Combat Center building and wondered just what exactly I had in store for him! Welps, this place really delivered!!! The fighter jet simulator looks very real and is enclosed, just like a real airplane! They gave my b/f a suit to wear and did a brief training, which took about 30 minutes. Afterwards, all 8 pilots got situated in their jets. The entire room is dim and each pilot has a huuuuge projector screen in front of them. It was super cool for me because I got to watch what each pilot was seeing from the viewing room and would see if someone got shot or crashed. According to my boyfriend, the only thing he would have changed would have been the fighter jet simulator because it did not actually move when you crashed or anything of the sort, but I'm sure that kind of wear and tear would make the equipment difficult to maintain! The staff here is very friendly and helpful. I am thankful for such a positive experience and would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys gaming, competition, and who dreams of being a pilot! Took my 14 year old son here for the Fox1 flight package. He received 30 minutes of flight instruction before hopping into the simulator to practice using the controls, dogfight the other participants, and then make 2 landing attempts. The flight time in the simulator was 30 minutes as well. He had a blast. I watched from the observation area where you can see a map of the battle space, hear the radio traffic, and see the same screen that the pilots are seeing. Once in the cockpit you're able to remove your mask and due to COVID, they are not providing flight suits. The staff was very friendly and accommodating since we were about 5 minutes late. We couldn't find it's location at the Gardenwalk. It's on level 2 across from the house of blues. The restrooms are closed due to COVID so you'll have to use the mall restrooms. I didn't realize the staff would be composed of real pilots. That was pretty cool. They were all super knowledgeable and helpful, and they also kept challenging us to dog fight them with guns only. Yeah, right. There's a lot to remember, but above all, watch your altitude. I spent the first half of our flight time WAAAAAAAAY up in the air going toward outer space without even realizing it. I couldn't figure out why my missiles wouldn't shoot and kill anyone. It wasn't until like fifteen or twenty minutes later that I glanced at the "pilot' next to me and saw his altitude was 40,000 lower than mine. Whoops! Once I got down, things were more fun, since I started killing people. I wound up with the second to lowest score, because I was out of the fighting area for so long. Sucks. However, I got the second best landing rating, so that's cool. At least I can bring the plane back down to earth if I had to. I feel like this is something you have to do a lot to really enjoy it, but the price bars me from doing so. read more

Authentic fun at every high speed turn. From the classroom session to prep all pilots we spend the bulk of our 90 minute session bringing down the opposition. JR our instructor was thorough and complete in his preparation and his in flight tactical pointers. I'm impressed and most definitely will return in the future. We bought time in the Boeing 737NG for a birthday gift for our 22 year old daughter. We made reservations and the lady who helped us was very polite. She confirmed our time and we showed up. We were greeted and the process was explained and we were sent to the officers area to wait for her flight instructor. The waiting area was very nice and we were able to watch F16 dog fights while we waited. Her Captain Dave Hanson came and introduced himself and brought her back for pre-flight briefing. We were allowed to watch. After about a 20 minute briefing it was off to the Boeing 737NG. The great thing was her instructor was a retired Delta pilot who was Excellent. He was very patient and did and wonderful job. She flew from LAX to John Wayne. She had a great time and wants to take the more advance / longer flight next time. We highly recommend the place and if you are going to do the Boeing 737 ask for Dave you will be glad you did. He has real world knowledge and made the entire time very enjoyable. I'll give a five stars because it was great. Although there are no hydraulics in the simulator but the feeling is real. The only comment I will make is the crab angle of the screens will make you feel that you are not center lined with the runway in which you are but not seeing. So sometimes on visual approach you may need to lean your body towards center screen to assure that you are properly aligned. Great job with the instructor and customer service read more

A little bit expensive, but so much fun! It was perfect for birthdays and my family ended up having 2 different parties here last year. They have a special program for kids but the regular simulation is definitely more complicated and meant for teens and adults. They give you a review of all the controls and maneuvers and then you get to suit up and hop in a giant fake cockpit in a room full of big screens and cockpits. This would make a great exercise for team building or just a fun family day like we had. read more
