Being stuck in a hospital nearby, a bunch of visitors and I decided to order some take-away from this place because of its location.
The menu is very exhaustive and has everything Thai and Vietnamese one could probably wish for. (On a personal note, I've always had my suspicions on this kind of restaurant that more dishes that they could probably handle and that you would really start wondering how they would be able to cook all that should they all have different orders)
What we originally wanted to order: Tom yam soup, goi cuon (summer rolls), banh xeo (Vietnamese crepes that are offered among the Chef's suggestions), spare ribs with honey, mixed of fried vegetables with tofu.
First glitch: the person on the phone tells me: "there are no banh xeo today". Excuse me? How can that be, especially when you mention them as the chef's suggestions? (And believe me, being Vietnamese, I know it's not hard to have all the ingredients at hand). Anyways, banh xeo became mi xao don (crusty fried noodles)
When we went to pick up our order, everything was given in a re-used cardboard box, non plastic bag whatsoever. Very un-handy for transportation. On top of that, some food was dripping in the box, soaking the box, making it very gross: SECOND GLITCH
Anyways, we were hungry and wanted to eat so we started taking out the food boxes and distributed them among us when we suddenly noticed that they did not give us any napkins or cutlery! As a reminder, we wanted to eat this in a hospital room, where we don't have all the cutlery we need. So, we were all stuck with a total of one fork, one knife, and 3 plastic coffee spoons that I had (luckily) saved. Very unprofessional though and that leads us to a third glitch.
When we started to eat, that is when we noticed that our veggies and tofu order had no tofu! Yes, no tofu. A disaster, as the person ordering that was craving tofu. Was this a misunderstanding? Maybe the person heard me wrong on the phone? I'm not sure though, because checking their menu again, they don't have any vegetables only dish, so they must have forgotten the tofu. Incredible! And that brings us to the fourth glitch.
And to finish with a fifth glitch: the prices are higher than other - similar quality - Viet-Thai restaurants in the area. On average, main dishes are between 15€ and 22€. Many Vietnamese dishes were closer to the 20s. And we're definitely not speaking of haute cuisine. The price that shocked me most is the one asked for the summer rolls (goi cuon): 8€. Yes, you read that correctly! I'm sure all my US friends must have fainted. That's definitely overrated!
So, to conclude, I'd say it's poor value for the money, even though the food wasn't that bad at all (hence my generous 2 stars). read more
