After a few days of eating what felt like nothing but frites and meat washed down with beer, we decided to try something different on our last night in Belgium and go to Yaki 2. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing I love more than the aforementioned combination of food, but something spicy and washed down with wine was too appealing to pass up.
There are two branches of Yaki in the city, which we only learnt when we turned up and realised we'd booked a table at the original Yaki, but they were absolutely fine about it and seated us immediately. Don't expect the quickest service here as there seemed to be only two members of staff manning both floors, but your food will come - and it will be delicious.
We shared a vegetable summer roll to start which, although slightly plain (my bad for not wanting the prawn version) was vastly improved with a splash of sriracha. My main meal of green curry with chicken and sticky rice was absolutely spot on and wolfed down. The rice was the perfect consistency, balancing out the hit of spice from the curry, which was packed not only with chicken but with vegetables (something I'm sure we'd both agree had been slightly lacking that holiday!)
Washed down with a bottle of white wine, it was a cheap and cheerful meal, and an excellent way to finish our time in Belgium. Vietnamese might not be the first cuisine you think of when visiting Brussels, but I'd wholeheartedly recommend it if you're looking for something to balance out the frites. read more
