Minnesnowtans should check out the ActionHeat section, because we don't actually enjoy becoming human popsicles in winter! If you're offended by taxidermy, oh fuuudge...avoid all the North American and African mounts, including a huge elephant and rhino. While I dislike the aspect of the trophy hunting and mounts, kids are mesmerized comparing their tiny size to the large scale of these beautiful beasts and seeing them in their replicated habitats. Owatanna's location is one of the more grander Cabela's that I've been to in the Midwest. It was a pretty decent sized building with a decent amount of item variety and a huge taxidermy display right in the middle of it all. I really enjoyed the taxidermy and mount displays at this location. There was a huge diversity of animals from around the world and the quality of the displays was on the same level of a natural history museum. Just walking around and looking at everything was a fun time. There is even a walkthrough aquarium that shows off local sports dish species. Staff were friendly and helpful and prices for most items were very reasonable, especially sale items. The only thing missing was one of those penny arcade gun ranges where you shoot things and they move, oh well!

Located this bait shop and was pleasantly surprised. We were warmly greeted as we let the gentleman know we were visiting looking for a place to fish. I laughed when he nodded towards the water and said "In the lake." He did talk us through some good spots around the lake. Helped us pick out some needed hooks and amazing GREEN earthworms. I was excited to see these- crazy neon green worms that he said do really well. - I did catch some decent size fish on these worms. :) We chatted for awhile and as we were leaving he asked if I wanted to see him feed his kitties. Of course! We head across the screen and down the dock to the boats where he tosses some bait fish that did not make it in his bait tubs. Sure enough GIANT lake catfish came and ate them right up. The employees here are friendly and very willing to help! The Starbucks here is great too, the drinks are always on point and the baristas are super friendly and full of life. This Target has quite a few different clearance sections in each area, which helps if you need to stretch a buck. And we could all use a good deal nowadays, right? I much prefer shopping for my basic needs and groceries at Target over WalMart or Whole Foods, but that isnt really an option if you live in Steele County.
