Mills has the unique ability to over and underwhelm me at the same time. The have a little bit of everything but rarely what I need, or even a good selection to choose from. Maybe it's just me, but Mills seems like a jack of all trades but a master of none. read more

I used to love this store. Then the other day I used their gas station and as the gas was filling up my truck, it never shut off automatically like most gas pumps do and gas was just poring on the ground and all over my truck. Once I was able to get the pump to shut off, I went in to let the clerks know that the pump did not function right and I over paid by 10 or so dollars in gas and there was gas all over the concrete and my truck. I also let them know that they do not have any squeegees in the buckets to whip off your windshield with. The clerks called the supervisor in the main store and he told them to tell me that there is nothing that they can do. So I called the store and talked to the manager there too and was given the same response, and that it was the customers faults why they don't have the squeegees, and that it was the customers faults that know one before me told them about the pump issue as well. They were not helpful, they blame the customers for everything. To top it all off I had to use their car wash to wash the gas off my brand new truck so it would not eat the paint. I am not longer a customer of this store and will pass on about their lack of professionalism. SHAME SHAME FLEET FARM!! read more

I was shopping in the Ankeny Iowa store this morning. Somewhere along the line my prescription sun glasses fell out of my coat pocket. Upon reaching into that pocket on my way out the door, I discovered they were missing. I went to customer service. They notified all personnel and a vast search ensued. Within 15 minutes, miraculously, the glasses were found. Now, I am not only happy about doing business with Fleet Farm, I am forever grateful for the caring, and heartfelt help that was shown to me, saving a $400.00 pair of glasses. Thanks so much for the immediate attention. Fleet Farm should be very proud of the personnel at the Ankeny, Iowa location. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!!! My girlfriend first called and asked if they worked on breaks and was told they do but needed to know what kind of car it was to see if they had the pads in stock and they would call her back. They never called back we still went up there and they said they would look at the car and asked if we would be shopping for awhile? we said yes so he said they would call us on our cell phone. We looked around for awhile came back and sat in the auto waiting area where I could see the car on the lift. After sitting another 15 mins a worker comes and asks if i needed help I tell him we are waiting on a call about that car on the lift. He then says they have not fiinished yet then looks down and pulls out a paper saying oh seems theres a lot of things wrong with your car from power stearing leaking and all kinds of stuff. now I am sure we would of noticed ANY leaks on our driveway where he said "your rack and pinion is leaking everywhere" This I know was a lie then was said all the roters needed to be replaced and the wheel bearings are bad and it would cost 1300 and some odd dollars to fix all this.As if we would my girlfriend said could you do the work today and the guy says most likely not as I looked at the workers sitting on our tires out in the work bay. I was glad I was there to tell my girlfriend there is not that much wrong with your car we would of seen the leaks and no way we need all new roters. We took the car to someplace else that only charged 300$ for all 4 breaks 2 front roters which it barely needed but thougt it was wise to change. They also whelded something that was rubbing on the wheel that looked like someone tried to pull off to make it looks worse than it was HMMMMMM wonder how that happened. So think twice before taking your car or truck or anything in the auto center to be worked on. read more

I have had two very bad experiences in the gun department. This last one broke the camels back. 2-25-17 I went in to ask about a gun they advertised on their website. Had to wait over 40+ minutes to get someone to truly try to help me, even though they had people behind the gun counter doing NOTHING. Simone - staring at a non-moving computer screen jumps to mind. Was told by Greg that they had the gun and it was even cheaper than advertised. Much later on was told by Simone they didn't actually have the gun but could order it for almost $100.00 above the price they told me! She was able to get Manager to honor price on their own website! Then finally was told by Mike that they gun she was looking at was left-handed and they didn't have the gun, nor were they able to get one into stock!!! Almost an hour of my time completely wasted by this incompetence. I will not be back. Ever. read more

Nice store but very poor customer service and inventory management. Went to buy a chicken coop, spent 20 minutes looking at and talking to representative to make sure still in stock. Purchased and then went to pickup. Waited for 10 minutes to have someone load up, waited five minutes for them to come back. He was very polite and came back and told me they didn't have one in stock because computer program hadn't updated?!? Had to go back around and go through customer service and return. No mention of getting a new one in or working on another product. Also recently purchased an ice auger that had parts missing from them. Looks like back to Menards. read more

I bought a 12 volt battery from Fleet Farm 6 months ago. The battery quit holding a charge about 1 month ago. i had let my truck sit for several (less than 7) days. When I went to start the truck the battery was dead. I charged the battery enough to start the truck, then drove the truck to town and back, a distance a little over 30 miles. The truck started fine while I was in town. The next morning the battery was dead and the truck wouldn't start. I took the battery out of the truck and put it on a battery charger for approx 12 hours and brought it to full charge. The next morning the battery was out of the truck but was dead. Last night I brought that battery and another from another vehicle back to the store. I was returning the battery I'd bought from them and brought the other as a core for exchange. I exchanged the battery from the other vehicle and they tried to sell me a battery from off the shelf that had been previously returned. I didn't accept that battery and they gave me another. Then the guy in automotive tested the battery from the truck and told me it tested good. Instead of calling him a liar I accepted the outcome because he had told me they were going to further test the battery. The further testing involved a 120 minute charge that in the end took about 200 minutes. While it was charging I went and had supper, did a little shopping and returned to the store to check on progress. I was told there were 46 minutes left on the charge. I let it be known I was displeased with their customer service and asked them if they expected me to take the battery I'd brought in back out with me. I told them I didn't want that battery back. They said that decision would be made once the battery was off the charger and tested again. I left my phone number with them. A couple hours later I received a call from the store and they told me the battery tested good. But, they also told me they'd replace the battery with a new one off the shelf. Because I'd been subjected to their ridiculous return policy and treated like a thief I less than politely let them know what they could do with their battery. I'm out about $100.00 because I won't put another one of their batteries back in my truck or, for that matter, any other vehicle. A little side note to this story is that I'd bought a battery from them for my skid loader in December and when I got the battery home it was dead off the shelf. I charged it and it held a charge. As a matter of fact I'm running that battery in the truck to temporarily replace the other dead battery I'd bought 6 months earlier. These people have a problem with their customer service and their batteries. It's my opinion they should have immediately replaced the battery I'd bought from them six months earlier and brought back last night. Instead they put me through the time required for their method of testing the battery only to tell me the battery wasn't bad. I shouldn't have been put through such treatment. I won't be back. read more

The first thing you'll notice when shopping at this store is it's HUGE! Imagine a large sporting goods store on one side, a large auto/truck parts & repair shop on the other side, and your favorite discount store in the center. That's what Mills Fleet Farm is like. There is a wide selection of clothing, sporting goods, household items, automotive items, some food items, an electronics department, and even a home improvement section. The people who work here are friendly too. And if this wasn't enough, there is a convenience store at the west end of the parking lot! read more
