When it took twice as long as expected to flip our space from ceremony to reception, the staff brought appetizers to the porch for cocktail hour, much to the delight of our guests. The food was delivered cold, things like coffee cups and dessert plates were not present, they didn't clear plates when meals were done, and the time from the back of the room to the front of the room being served was a full 35 minutes. Folks gave up and we're leaving, and volunteers from the event stepped in to clear tables and help service tables. This place may have delicious food, but they are NOT equipped to handle a. Let's start with where the bar is set for these things. Only a proper understanding of the usual fare at this type of place can you truly appreciate what the LEC offers. I'm from Baltimore and at a first class joint like the Orioles' Camden Yards, M&T Bank Stadium, or The Baltimore Civic Center you can experience the joys of mass public fare. First, you'll wait in line with a thousand other hungry, desperate people as it moves a snails' pace. This is because the event is staffed by meth addicts, cokeheads, and people too stupid to not work around meth addicts and cokeheads. Most of them don't even ask you what you want, they look at you and, if you're lucky, they'll loudly mumble some gibberish ("Swishagettasomefoodinyerdaplate"). You'll tell them you want a burger at which point they will appear to not do anything nor say anything to the other dozen employees standing around doing absolutely nothing. They won't direct you to wait or move or listen for a number being called. They'll probably look at you like a dying Goldfish. They may be prompted to move by a rat jumping on the counter and licking the ketchup dispenser. Eventually you'll be handed a "burger" which will be a circular grey disc resembling the surface of the moon. The rolls will be half stale and only good scrubbing pots oatmeal was cooked in. Your burger won't come with fries so you'll order those and repeat the aforementioned process. By this time you've missed an entire inning/quarter/business lecture but it doesn't matter because The Orioles are probably losing anyway. Finally you'll take your tray of moon meat and rat fries to the cashier who will tell you that you know owe him eighteen dollars for food items that may or may not kill you but will certainly cause some sort of bodily injury. You feel totally had, like that time my "adult female company" turned out to be wanted felon named "Jim." You don't feel good about yourself at all, like you obviously are not as smart as you thought before you wanted a cheeseburger. Now, let's get to the matter at hand. The Lane Events Center is clean and bright. I saw exactly zero rats during yesterday's "Big O [roller derby] Tournament," an event that I spent ten hours at. The help looked disease and addiction free and smiled at me. They spoke clear English. A "burger basket," which included fries, was $8. That's not a "deal," unless you consider that for this type of event it is almost a steal. Most places use your "trappedness" to basically loot you. The meat was of Carl's Jr. quality (so not bad, but not great) but the veggies were fresh and the roll was good. The fries were especially good, crispy and not greasy. Sodas were $2, again, not a deal but for an event they've basically given it away. Giant cookies were $2. The only thing that was pricey was the beer, $6 for a 10 or 12 oz which still doesn't approach the beating you take elsewhere. It was really nice to be stuck somewhere for 10 hours and not have to worry about the food options. The staff was beyond friendly and, as far as I could tell, weren't temps. Many props to the management of the Lane Events Center, they are doing something right down there in Eugene and deserve some sort of commendation.

The exterior of the EVEC main building and interior lobby are a bit outdated in terms of decor. In contrast, the event hall itself is quite lovely and spacious; large sweeping view of the golf course, high ceilings with lots of wooden beams and pretty hanging light fixtures, a moderate sized wooden dance floor; fireplace with stone mantle that serves as a nice backdrop for a ceremony. The event staff was managed well; the servers were attentive and dressed professionally, and handled the changing/re-arranging of the space from ceremony to reception smoothly. The food, I'm sorry to say, was consistent with the general consensus that food at weddings is typically not memorable. As is to be expected with similar venues; to use the EVEC location and space, one most likely needs to use their caterer. While plentiful, the selections and their presentation was unimaginative and the flavor/quality was less than mediocre. The two most effective examples of this gripe would be the GINORMOUS cheese platter and a ridiculously small selection of dark brown or light brown, barely-stale slices of pullman loaf bread, and the crab cakes reeked of fish sauce. So, yes, your guests will enjoy a lovely view, competent staff, and a venue thats good for an indoor party with a nice space, pretty decor, booze and music. Their catering needs work. If I were to rate the food by my Yelp standards, it would be considerably lower than the 3, but who goes to a wedding to review (solely) the food?

Try a fresh baked one at the Farmers Market and then buy for the freezer. Just save a few for me.
