I was a guest at a recent wedding held at the Emerald Valley Event Center in Creswell. I have event planning experience and that always makes for an interesting perspective versus that of a typical party guest. The exterior of the EVEC main building and interior lobby are a bit outdated in terms of decor. In contrast, the event hall itself is quite lovely and spacious; large sweeping view of the golf course, high ceilings with lots of wooden beams and pretty hanging light fixtures, a moderate sized wooden dance floor; fireplace with stone mantle that serves as a nice backdrop for a ceremony. The event staff was managed well; the servers were attentive and dressed professionally, and handled the changing/re-arranging of the space from ceremony to reception smoothly. The food, I'm sorry to say, was consistent with the general consensus that food at weddings is typically not memorable. As is to be expected with similar venues; to use the EVEC location and space, one most likely needs to use their caterer. While plentiful, the selections and their presentation was unimaginative and the flavor/quality was less than mediocre. The two most effective examples of this gripe would be the GINORMOUS cheese platter and a ridiculously small selection of dark brown or light brown, barely-stale slices of pullman loaf bread, and the crab cakes reeked of fish sauce. So, yes, your guests will enjoy a lovely view, competent staff, and a venue thats good for an indoor party with a nice space, pretty decor, booze and music. Their catering needs work. If I were to rate the food by my Yelp standards, it would be considerably lower than the 3, but who goes to a wedding to review (solely) the food? read more

I was recently in a wedding that took place at Emerald Valley. While the actual venue is nice, pretty views, large fireplace inside etc, the staff at the venue really needs work. When I say staff, I really mean the event planner. I worked closely with the bride, and was part of almost every detail of the wedding. There were so many details that the planner claimed to know nothing about or gave us attitude when we asked about it. Where do I begin? We were told about a month prior to the ceremony that there was an event happening the night before and we could not set up anything for the reception until the morning of. This was not acceptable. We bargained with the event planner to let us in late that night after the other event had finished. When we got there, around 9:30 pm, the tables were all set up with the wrong linens. When we asked about it all we got was defensiveness and attitude. Isn't it her job to make the bride happy??? The linens ended up getting changed, however the bridal party was not able to help change the linens and had to wait for one woman to remove and replace linens and all place settings on 10 tables. We were seriously just standing there watching and waiting because she refused to let us help. After that was complete, I was asking about the other tables in the room. Cake table? Party Favor table? coffee/ punch table?, so on. There were 3 tables that we were missing. She claims that she had no idea we needed those tables, when the bride had given her a specific number of tables that was needed. Again, we had to beg and plead just for the correct amount of tables for the reception. Not cool. As for food and drinks. The food was great! Everyone really loved it. The bride had requested that we take whatever food was left home. Seems reasonable since she paid for it, right? The event planner would only allow that if we brought in our own containers. Ok, makes sense. So we brought in containers and asked for it to be boxed up. At first she acted like she did not know what we were talking about, then when she finally agreed to do it, we were only give a few of the items to take home. None of the chicken or bread was included. Only a few side dishes. Maybe she planned on using it for another event??? As for the liquor, they charge an extremely high corkage fee for wine. Around $16-18 per bottle. So we opted to bring in our own wine, so we could buy it at a lower cost rather than buying it directly from them at $15 per bottle plus the cork fee. We asked that she keep all of the empty bottles for us so we could have an exact count of what was going to be billed for the corkage fee. This was another detail she claimed to know nothing about and all the empty bottles were thrown out. As for the beer, when the bride was first discussing it with the planner she was told there would not be an additional gratuity added because they already mark up the price per keg to cover that. When the bride received her invoice the gratuity was on the bill. She asked the event planner to remove it, and the answer she received was "I can't" With the coffee and punch, it is "required" that you serve it, and it costs per person. The day of the wedding the bridesmaids were shown to the conference rooms where they would get ready. It's a nice area with a kitchen attached. There were no tables set up in there for the hair or makeup people. I found some tables stored in a small room and decided just to grab one to use. It had "bridesmaid" written on the bottom of it, and it was in the area where we were instructed to use, so I assumed it was ok. Later that day the event planner asked the bride where we got the table from. She told her, and said we thought it would be ok since it was labeled for bridesmaids. The event planners response was "did it have your name on it?" Real nice right??? During the reception the event planner told me that there was a funeral the next day at the venue. That meant that we needed to have all of our stuff cleaned out right after the reception ended. The reception was scheduled to last until 11pm, and we were all under the impression that we could come back the next day to clean up. I understand that a funeral is generally a last minute thing, but she should of told us sooner than during the reception. I was scrambling around at the end of the night trying to make sure that everything was cleaned up and removed from the site. It was ridiculous. There are so many more things that this event planner did or didn't do to make this wedding more stressful than needed. The bride received multiple calls from her thinking she was a different bride getting married on a different day. Or she would call her and ask about details that did not pertain to her wedding but a different one. The planner is EXTREMELY unorganized. It's as if she has no system for recording the details and planning information for each of her events. I would recommend this venue, but only if they get a new event planner. read more

I had my wedding here on 2/8/2014, in the middle of an ice and snow storm, with no electricity. Tammy (event coordinator) handled everything beautifully. I could not be happier with how the wedding turned out. The food was fantastic, the hall was warm (thank you gas stove and kitchen), the bar was plentiful, and she even found a way for me to still have music and a reception. I would recommend this venue to anybody who wants a very competent staff that will go above and beyond. read more
