A pretty nice wine bar in town! My friend and I each got a flight and a glass of wine to follow. They have very unique sparkling wine method that I would recommend trying! We also had the meat and cheese plate which was a tasty accompaniment. One star off because the vibe wasn't my favorite. It felt very quiet and empty - I don't think there was any music playing. The last time I was there they actually weren't quite open yet. 10 minutes until opening time and the owner saw us lurking outside so we came over unlock the door, let us in and promptly served us a few tastes of some newly released wines. The evening only got better from there. We were lucky enough that pizzeria DOP was doing a special menu. We nibbled, sipped and got a great education in civics unique approach to winemaking. They always have some new interesting menu happening for bites to accompany the wines. Their wall of wines to purchase are amazing. And plenty of room to sit quietly or gather with friends. Staff was extremely friendly and I loved the feel overall! They had an interesting selection of wines with a focus on natural/organic wines and stock items from smaller growers & companies which I like. It felt in that way very niche and different than any other wine bar you'd visit in town. I've only been twice but can not wait to return to try some of their foods and other wines. We live out of town and come once every Summer. On both visits our pet had been welcomed on their outside dog friendly patio. Additionally, it's really nice to order from people who like wine and know about the wines they are selling. Last year the woman was kind and knowledgeable and talked to us about the different wines. We got to try some that had the smoke from the fires in them. I thought they were good. This year we had a nice man with tattoos down his neck all the way to his feet. What a great sommelier he was. It's so nice to talk to someone who knows their wine, enjoys talking about them, and really enjoys their job. Additional praise to the management for allowing him to be himself at work. What an edgy yet super-friendly place. Cindy was amazing at introducing us to their way of creating wines that had had skin contact! Patrick is the curator of their wine and beer selection and his expertise is obviously displayed in his perfect selection of wines and beers available. The panini was exquisite, the crispness of the bread, the punch of the mustard and texture of the pickles was spot on. We live in Roseburg, recently relocated from the foo-foo northern suburbs of Chicago. For us now this is a destination. A great addition to downtown Eugene! We came on a weeknight and there were a few other people there, so it was super relaxing. The interior decor is great and most importantly they have a fun variety of wines. They have orange wines which are hard to find, I definitely recommend trying them if you haven't before! We have yet to try their food but assume that it's great, as the menu items sounded good. Our server was helpful and friendly and even gave us a little informational tour of the winery which was sweet. Overall would recommend and will be back! read more

I had the best time here! Next door to Lion and Owl, I'd been meaning to try this urban winery, tasting room, and bottle shop. And they had lots of interesting things I hadn't seen elsewhere. Staff was helpful and very knowledgeable, they seem to love what they do. They have five namesake wines that they make themselves, including a sparkler and an "orange" wine (similar to rose). Some well chosen esoteric reds and whites by the glass or in flights that change periodically. My favorite was a full bodied Hungarian white Tokay from a 500 year old property. They also have a half dozen "small plates " including panini, charcuterie and nuts. First timers can use a Yelp discount for 20% off a one bottle purchase. read more

What a wonderful experience. I came across Civic here on yelp while looking for something to do while in town for an evening on business. My original goal of just getting out of my hotel room for a bit was much surpassed when I was able to not only sample all of their Civic wines, but also get a tour of the processes in back. Craig was fantastic, and Mel was incredibly accommodating in capping my bottle of barrel poured wine to be sure it made it safely through the flight home. The barrel poured Pinot Noir is incredible, and only $4/glass or $9/bottle in a growler type service. I also had some burrata while there that I am already craving again. The atmosphere is wonderful, so friendly, and I am already looking forward to my return when back in Eugene. read more

I hosted a Volunteer Appreciation dinner in the barrel room here mid April and we had a wonderful time. Melanie (event coordinator) was incredibly helpful setting up and arranging the event. They offered competitive and manageable prices and a space that allowed me to show my volunteers how much we truly appreciate their work. The staff, including the owner Craig, were incredibly friendly and personable, the wine is delicious, and they have a fantastic space to sit and enjoy a glass of wine in downtown. The girl when we went on Sunday was so hospitable (I'm embarrassed that I'm not sure of her name, but as I was day drinking, I got all the names mixed up. We loved the space --cosy and candlelit, but also a cool, industrial-chic vibe. The wines are delicious --I'm going back because I want to work my way through the menu. Each pour listed looked so intriguing --unusual wines you won't find anywhere else. And reasonably priced, too. I had a sparkling reisling, and it was deliciously dry and mineral-y. Yum. Date had a red blend and really liked that. One thing that stands out about this bar is the stemware. It makes a huge difference to drink special wines in a glass with a thin rim. I'm so glad that Civic has invested in glassware that doesn't detract from the wine tasting experience. The staff is knowledgeable and welcoming. And even though the place is on busy 11th, there is parking in the lot next door. Such a plus! read more

A corkage fee is a common practice when bringing in your own wine. But these lovely folks charge you a corkage fee even when buying the bottle of wine from them, on site. I would love to spend a lot of money at Civic Winery, but I'm also principled and I believe in spending my money as an expression of my values. We were there when they were extremely business. They ran out of bread for one of my friend's sandwich. Another friend waited 20 min. for her cheese tray. They charged a $6. corkage fee in addition to the price for a bottle of THEIR own wine which we got to drink with our "meals". I'm native to a big grape-growing wine region. Never seen this, EVER! Normally corkage fee pertains to a bottle that is brought in to an establishment. Is the fee common here in Oregon??? read more
