Then I checked out Build it Green across the street. They carry a lot of used appliances, doors, and building supplies that have been refurbished. If you're interested in building & renovating with reclaimed pieces, this is a good place to start. Next door is Gowanus Ballroom. Around the back is the Arts complex, and housed within is Farmigo, a small food tech startup. You don't know what food tech is? Neither did I until Meetup recommended this event. It's pretty cool, they host these monthly storytelling sessions. They're all about the local food movement. At the event I met some really interesting people, who were doing startups, non-profits, and social-good stuff, and lived in the neighborhood. They even had some really amazing snacks on hand, and some craft beer to top it off. Farmigo is what would happen if you took the Avon-lady party idea, and brought it to local farmer distribution. They have farmigo parties, people order from local farms in upstate new york, or the north east region. Then buyers pickup at these various drop points, some of them happen as a sort of community party that's a lot like a tupperware party from the 70's & 80's. Farmigo makes it all happen, by providing the online platform to connect everybody together. After the talk, I went to grab my bike. In another part of the arts complex, giant sculptures are being formed & burning man scale giant art is being forged. Wow, cool stuff. Can't wait to come back next week. My company recently had our company holiday party here a month ago…read more This event space/place is best accessible by mass transit. If you drive, just a friendly advice - there's not a lot of parking spaces available. You would have to take a chance and park at the Lowe's parking lot or down a few blocks. Gowanus Loft is located in a somewhat dead neighborhood.While walking up to our space, it was quite confusing to get around, but luckily there were signs pointing to where our party was. The Gowanus Loft doesn't have much decor. It felt very much like a warehouse we were entering into or an old art gallery. The stairway was very narrow. The space we had was spacious and just enough room to walk around, mingle, and hang out. The food I think was provided by an outside caterer. It was delicious and amazing! In addition, we had an open bar. The restrooms are single stalls and reeked of cigarette scent. Yuck! To make matters worse, there was only ONE sink and that sink didn't seem to work very well either or not work at all. I wasn't 100% impressed with this space because it didn't seem holiday party-worthy. I'm not sure what the other guests thought of it, but we've done better the last two years because we used an event space at the Fairfield Inn in Gownaus, Brooklyn.

They had the kids meal (pizza and fries), popcorn and lemonade. No complaints from them. I had the fried chicken sandwich with a shade salad and a lychee martini. The sandwich flavors were good, but the texture but a bit fatty, salad was great, the martini was tiny and ok in flavor, I've had way better. Great movie and an overall enjoyable experience.

I want to give it 5 stars because I want more places like this to exist, but there are a few issues…read morestanding in the way. This review may seem mostly critical, but that's because I really love the place and these issues stand out against what could be such a great experience. 1. I come here (and to to the Williamsburg location) regularly for anime screenings. I've noticed that the selections being shown lately at both locations are sometimes via low-quality video files from (I assume) torrent sites. The subtitles can be poorly positioned and contain formatting and spelling errors; the same type of positional and grammatical errors that occur when subtitles are converted directly from PGS to SRT with little to no extra formatting or QC passes. The video encodes are also sometimes poor quality. I noticed a while back that the Galaxy Express 999 showing had video that was aggressively smoothed over, destroying the finer details available from better sources. I know that movie well, so it was the first time I became really aware of the problem. The copies of some of these films I have at home look way better than the processed versions I'm paying to see in the theater, and that should never be the case. I can't imagine the Nitehawk staff are encoding these themselves, since if they had the source material they could just as easily just play the raw video files or encode at a really low CRF for much better results. And if they are downloading the films, they could instead pay the $20 for a Blu-ray or at least source higher quality encodes and subtitles, since these screenings are many people's only opportunity to see these movies in a theater. 2. The selection of films has been not great lately. This year, we had: The Dagger of Kamui, All You Need Is Kill, Urusei Yatsura 2, 100 Meters... these movies are not good. Some are awful. That said, we do get good stuff often! We get more good than bad. But these special screenings don't happen often (once a month, usually) and we've been on a losing streak lately so it's worth mentioning. 3. Theater 4 sucks. I saw a 4:3 movie there, which is already limiting the screen real estate, but the projectionist also closed curtain over part of the left side of the visible image. It stayed that way for the entire movie, and I was seated way over on the left so I was getting wrecked by it. On top of that, the projector in that theater seems of especially low quality, with an obvious screen door effect that distracts from the experience. 4. The food has dropped in quality. The donut dish they are currently offering is dry, oily, and totally inedible (my partner and I couldn't finish more than one each, we ended up tossing them). The other food items are also of lower quality than the Williamsburg location. I assume the ingredients are all the same, so maybe it's just an overworked staff since it's much bigger? Anyway, I really don't spend as much on food at Prospect Park as I do in Williamsburg because I'm not confident in the quality of the food I'm about to get. Overall, I love the Nitehawk theaters. I definitely dump more time and money into these places than any other businesses, really. I just wanted to voice my disappointment with recent showings in the hopes that things will change, because traveling to Prospect Park (not close to me) to see a hand-picked movie that isn't good, is visually compromised, is poorly subtitled, and is being shown on a low quality projector with the screen partially covering it just bums me out. Hoping my review does some good in improving things, I guess. Looking forward to changing this to 4 stars this year if/when any one of the above issues are resolved, and then up to 5 stars when a few more of them are resolved! These spots are still my homes away from home. The staff work their asses off and the food CAN be solid with some more care. Don't let my bitching about anime screenings turn you off to seeing any other film there. My complaints are hyper specific, and odds are you aren't going there to see anime anyway.

I attended this huge street fair this year in 2026 and had a great time. The weather was…read moreexceptionally hot but we still walked up and down the fair from start to finish. It was very crowded but we were able to walk around and check out the local vendors. They had some local entertainment for the children and adults. There was every type of food you can imagine. We opted for a Mexican restaurant (Fatty Daddy) so we could sit down and eat in the AC, lol. I bought some little "Brooklyn" souvenirs and some sweets. I actually enjoyed this fair better than "Atlantic Antic" because it wasn't overly crowded. Definitely something I would check out again.

I typically hate NYC street fairs, but the Fifth Avenue lived up to its name!…read more Unlike some other fairs, where it's all the same sausage and peppers on every block, the Fifth Ave Fair puts a big emphasis on local businesses, with most of the food options coming from those storefronts! There was also a live band, lots of random stuff to buy (mostly jewelry and clothes). I set up station by the Letter of Marque Theater space and watched/participated in some awesome soundpainting and improv performances! Go support them! Also devoured a ton of pizza, and had more than a few beers from Nunu Chocolates. I love drinking in public! The fair also extended pretty far down! From almost Flatbush all the way down to the numbered streets!

Hosted in Brooklyn Steel, this event was a great way to check out a lot of food vendors/restaurants at one place as well as revisit some old favorites. Every place had samples to try, some more significantly-sized than others, and many were also offering drinks as well. Archie's was a go-to late night order back when my boyfriend lived in Bushwick so I was glad to see they had a presence here.The samples from Guadalupe Inn were my personal favorite - I believe it was some sort of carnitas tostada (whatever it was, it was delicious). My sister and I also loved the little falafel bites with hummus that the Queen of Falafel was serving. Boars Head was popular due to the sheer size of their samples - they had full sausages with delicious mustard and kraut. Whatever brand was sampling the chocolates in the main hall was amazing too - I probably ate 50 of those bad boys. While the samples were abundant and the drinks were free-flowing, the place was a little too packed for my liking. It was, at times, difficult to move around. While lines were fairly manageable, the venue itself was a sardine can. Also, the event was supposed to go from 6:30 to 9 (my sister and I got there a little late, closer to 7:15), yet most vendors were running out/were out of food by 8:15-8:30 or so. Not a huge deal, we still felt like we would have gotten our money's worth had we paid for tickets, but for those who came late, it might not have been a good deal for the $60 ticket price. All in all, a really solid event and I'm really glad I went. Would consider going back next year.

Tasted so many delicious items paired so uniquely that I was quickly filling my belly until I couldn't breathe (below are some of the photos that my partner in crime and I had the pleasure to try). The array of options was magnificently displayed from cocktails, lite bites, heavier options and of course desserts! The space was just right, although it was an extremely HOT and Humid day, everyone was having a great time, mingling, tasting, dancing, exploring and taking it all in. Mainly, I love a movie theater with strict rules (even if you have to rat people out for them to be enforced, but I'll get to that). I also love having food and drinks served to me in a theater, literally the best! I saw The Odyssey here with friends and it was a good experience. I love reserving seats ahead of time so that I know what I can expect. There were only front row seats but even in a movie with tons of action, it wasn't that bad (even if not ideal). The food ordering system is easy enough but I doubt I'd order food here again. If you have any specifications or requests for side items, they will likely not make it to you and here's no way to say, "Hey you forgot my side of marinara sauce" without making a big production out of it. So my side never did arrive nor did my friend's even though the server told each of us on separate occasions that our side would be coming out. My pizza was edible (mushroom/arugula) and appreciate the vegan options, but other than popcorn, I'm not sure ordering food is worth it unless you're desperately hungry (I hadn't eaten all day so that was my situation). A note on the snitch policy. They let you know at the beginning that you should text staff if someone is violating the no talking or texting rules. But hello, if that person is sitting close to you, they're going to know who the snitch bitch was. Other than that, a good movie experience and I love having the option to order a glass of wine to my seat. It's just one of life's little pleasures, movies, wine and popcorn.

The pizza tasted processed and the pretzels I ordered were okay at best, but the dipping sauces were not good at all. They had zero taste. As for the no talking rule, while people still respect the rule for the most part, there were some people next to me softly whispering at times that it made it hard to follow the film I was watching. There were people behind me that were shouting at the screen at inopportune times too. I thought about saying something to a fellow staff member, but let it go as the film I was watching was too good to be engrossed in other peoples' behavior. I will still come back here as the experience still beats going to other movie theaters for the price and the location cannot be beat.

It use to be a laundry center that got renovated right before covid. Which means they started off having music and performances on the sidewalk. It built up a really nice local community since then. They have a lot of Afro/Latinx performers who just rock the house. Solid group with a lot of experience and soul. The night I went was the first time they did a DJ only event. Tres Dos who is known throughout the city was there laying it down. The interior is clean and relaxing. Definitely an intimate space good for meeting your neighbors. There is a little 'bar' and library area with some good books actually. Then the band's space on the other half. Different artists also display work in the middle zone, there was some nice photography when I visited, and a permanent installation of 2 very interesting mini 3D worlds Check their IG for performances and times.
