There really isn't a more charming place in Issaquah. The patio is absolutely beautiful. The food is phenomenal. I've probably been here more than 20 times in 15 years. We even threw my mom her 80th birthday in the private room. I also threw a friend's 50th birthday in the same room many years earlier. The steak salad is literally to die for, however, you could throw a dart at the menu and land on anything and it will be phenomenal and delicious. They offer great wines, both red and white. Their bar is so cute and charming, and the bartender is fantastic as well. This is a great place for a special occasion or a sexier date night. This is a great place for quality conversation on the patio or inside. The staff usually lets you linger in the daytime... But there is a hustle and bustle and table turnover at night. It's not easy to get a seat in the bar in the evening or for happy hour. It's small and quaint and darling and charming. I can't recommend this place enough. Came here on a weeknight to spend time with old college buddies. It's an inmate venue and we were able to chat and have our own space. Service was great and super easy to reserve a table on google or yelp. They had a great drink menu. Food, I would give a go star. If the food wasn't so pricey; maybe a 2.5. We got calamari to share and each had our own entree. The calamari was ok. Breading was mediocre. No flavor and the sauce was bland. If the calamari was good, I wouldn't need the sauce. I got the cowboy ribeye. The asparagus and potatoes were ok. Nothing special. No flavor. The steak was seasoned with just salt probably. No other flavor. Not even a hint of garlic. We have been to FIG several times previously (a while ago) and food was delicious. Hubby's birthday so decided to go again. I rang asking if I needed to make a reservation and we would be late, lady said no not busy being a weeknight (Thursday), came in at 7:40 only to be told by the man behind the bar "we close at 8:00", I said I called, said we'd be late'ish but wasn't told re 8:00 close. He, rather rudely, repeated "we close at 8:00" and that was it! No sorry but kitchen is closing, would you like to sit at the bar and I might be able to get you a snack. Nothing! Apart from the abrupt/rude manner, there were people there! Several people sitting in the bar area, a table of 4 in the main dining area and 3 tables of people in the private room area!!! This is a charming restaurant and is not one to go to if you are in a hurry or used to quick dining. While the waitstaff is not overly attentive, our server did a nice job and I didn't feel ignored. My Mom and I split the Caesar salad. It was flavorful, although the croutons were a bit chewy. My Mom ordered the stuffed seafood dish and said it was delicious. I didn't have as good of an experience with the Cowboy steak. As mentioned in previous reviews, it was tough and had a lot of gristle. Not worthy of the expensive price tag in any way. Sad.... I was looking forward to a nice dinner out with Mom. Hopefully they will find a new supplier for their beef cuts. Until then, I will find another place for steak. read more

We went to celebrate a birthday with a party of 7. The restaurant was practically empty, which wasn't a great sign. Two people ordered steak salads that were basically inedible. The steak was pure fat and gristle. Two ordered filet mignons and both were terrible cuts and also very gristly. One ordered the cowboy steak. It was very overcooked. The soup tasted purely like salt. The crabcakes tasted like freezer burn. Overall the food was terrible and when you spend $500 on a tab and not one person ate anything they actually enjoyed it's very disappointing. Went for breakfast and did not have a wait on a weekend, which was a pleasant surprise. As a gluten-free person, there was plenty to choose from although they did not have gluten-free toast, but they did have gluten-free buns They gave us complementary coffee cake, which my husband enjoyed. I could not have it because it had gluten. I ordered a classic Benedict and they cooked it exactly as I asked, along with a gluten-free bun, and it was surprisingly delicious. I wasn't sure how it was going to be with the bun. The service was amazing. She was always there when we needed her, and she was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, including the gluten and dairy items. She was even able to answer all of our questions about the dinner menu since we planned on coming back for dinner sometime. Since the restaurant was not busy, I asked if she would be willing to mark up a menu for me showing me what was gluten-free and she was happy to. Check out the pictures. I have been here many many years ago and finally I got a chance to revisit today for lunch. The venue is deceivingly big and there is also outdoor seating. It was a rainy day so we sat inside. It wasn't packed or anything but there were a few parties dining. The menu was very straightforward. A few salad options, sandwich options, and entree options. I went with a classic (and safe) steak salad. It came with blue cheese dressing (which is hard to mess up imo), candied pecans (yum!), and perfectly cooked (medium) and seasoned meat. Service was very appropriate (i.e. just right) and the prices were not too bad! My steak salad was 22 dollars which I am sure isn't too different from pre-pandemic days. Everything is so expensive now that a 22 dollar steak salad seems like a bargain! A solid 4 star venue. read more

Dropped in for a quick dinner a week ago. And while the meal was outstanding (per usual) the service was slow, inattentive, and what the heck is happening to the physical plant? We came in around 5:30 for dinner and there was no one at the host station. While the restaurant was pretty empty - my wife had to grab someone to get attention so we could be seated. We put in our drink orders and then the waiter dissappeared. I think he may have been newer, as he seems uncomfortable with both the menu and our questions, but hey, I know service can be rough. But we proceed to watch multiple tables (with another server) get seated after us, yet get drinks, and in one case, entrees, before we ever got our drinks! The rest of the meal progressed similarly, with our quick dinner ending up a a 90 minute affair. However our food was outstanding, which helped tamp down our frustration. However it was the condition of the restaurant that surprised me, and the fact that it took so long for our meals, actually encouraged me to look around at our venue more, and that's when I started noticing things. We sat outdoors, and were greeted by some resident sand fleas falling / jumping from the tree nearby. I get it - we are outdoors. So my wife switched sides of the table which helped. Thankfully the yellow jackets were not out in their late summer frenzy, so we managed. It didn't help that non matching seating on the deck, had cushions that didn't fit the chairs, making our extended stay uncomfortable as well. When I excused myself for a trip to the restroom, I found that there was no door knob on the outside patio door (just a screw and post) and in the bathroom, I noted the large dent/hole near the urinal that appeared to have been covered by a rubber mat. Throughout the paint and decor seemed dirty, and in need of some love. I then began to notice that all of that doors had hinges that sagged and door dents and peeling paint. Maybe it's because it was a sunny evening and you don't normally see this stuff in the dark - but everything looked tired, beyond just well worn, and in need of updating. Especially at this price point. Flat Iron has always been a staple for us, and we frequently visit its siblings (Iron Duck and Black Duck) as well. The food is nearly always spot on, and historically, the service has been quite good. Unfortunately while the prices at Flat Iron have continued to go up, it feels like the service and venue are not keeping pace. it is in danger of being outclassed by its siblings. We have always thought of Flat Iron as the benchmark of the family. But that certainly didn't seem to be the case two weeks ago. For our part, I hope this is just a blip on the radar. It's just too good to become one of the myriad of other over priced poorly maintained restaurants in Issaquah. read more

I have been to Flat Iron many many times. It's always decent food, a bit expensive for the location. I live within walking distance though so I come here anyway. The last time I went, I made a reservation for Father's Day brunch with my husband and my 6mo. My mistake was not making a reservation for 3 people. I'll own it. My 6mo sits on my lap though because she doesn't quite eat more than three pieces of fruit. I checked in with the hostess who made a huge deal about my not making a reservation for three. I totally understand that I made that mistake but I said: I'll leave the stroller in the entry (there was room) and just have her on my lap. If that hadn't worked, we could have taken the stroller back to the car, no problem. The restaurant is half full. There are many tables open. The hostess tries to seat us at a high table. Me: There are low tables open, can we have one of those? Her: well those are for reservations and we are fully booked. (It is not close to full, there are many tables open) Me: well... I have a reservation. Did someone request those tables in their reservation? Her: well they don't really request specific tables. Me: okay, so can I sit at one of those? I basically had to beg her to sit at one of the two two-top tables they had open. She begrudgingly agreed and we had brunch (in 45 mins because, baby) and by the time we left, the other table was still empty AND so were a lot of other tables. food was fine and so was our waitress, but that really spoiled my husband's first Father's Day. Lesson learned, I should just make brunch myself or go somewhere else. read more

Unexpectedly I ended up at Flat Iron Grill. I didn't know what to expect except that it was somewhere I hadn't been before and the reviews were good. The reviews did not steer me wrong! Located in Gilman Village Flat Iron Grill is not hard to spot with its large sign, red siding, and large outdoor patio. As we entered we immediately greeted and seated. The hostess who did so was not seen again after so not sure if she was finishing her shift and we were the last she saw in. Our waitress Mackenzie was amazing. She seemed to be the only waitress serving both the inside and outside tables. While it wasn't super busy - three tables inside and three tables outside - it was enough for nonstop movement for her. She also was the busser and delivered the food, so she literally was doing everything. In spite of it she maintained a very cheerful disposition and was a pleasure to speak with. The food was excellent. I had the traditional breakfast with poached eggs. The bacon was perfect! Thick but crispy just how I like it! They served this coffee cake that was delicious and I ended up with a glass of port and a scoop of the whiskey praline ice cream. I wasn't sure if I would care for praline but was surprised how tasty it was! The ice cream was super good! It was an excellent brunch. I will certainly have to come back for dinner! read more

This was my first time at the Flat Iron grill. We went there as a large group, about 15+ people on a Wed for lunch service. Our waitress was really fun. She recomended great choices. I got a cup of teh potato soup with salmon. Their cup is essentially a bowl. It was yummy and large portion. I got the Shrimp Tacos. The tacos have choice of side, I got the salad but you can get fried as well. Really delicious. Would I recommend this to a friend? YES Would I revisit again? YES read more

Visited for Mother's Day dinner. Walked in stood by the podium then eventually sat down in the waiting area. 4 or 5 minutes later we were eventually asked if we had been helped. No big deal, I could tell they were busy. We sat down and our server checked in fairly quickly and listed off a host of things they were out of. Out of Filet, Ribeye, Crab stuffed halibut, etc. Again, excusing them for having a busy day and hoping that was all the quirks we'd have. Ordered a bottle of wine, server came back, they were out of that too. So we're not off to a great start here. We ordered and relaxed. About 12-14 min later some bread arrived: it was almost like warm dry rolls that had been sitting out. Dense; not very good; but the nice butter was a compliment: Food arrives and we all get our steaks. Now we eat out a lot, and I've had a lot of steaks. Two of 3 of our steaks were NOT what we ordered. Never had a NY strip look like the one I received and another member of our party same scenario. I assume they ran out of what we ordered as they had so many other things and said "just bring them these". Might be wrong but these were not resembling of the cuts two of 3 of us ordered. They didn't ask to cut into them or check the temperature but once we did again, 2 of 3 of us were well over a medium rare as ordered. We didn't want to fuss and carried on with dinner. Steaks were on the dry side and semi flavorless. Sides were good, Brussel Sprouts and asparagus both very well cooked. My wife and I ate here for our anniversary last year, and we enjoyed it. So this year we decided to go again. However, the experience was 180 degrees different. I ordered the flat iron steak, cooked medium. The steak they brought me was medium rare, and it was so riddled with fat that it was an effort just to cut into it. I ended up just eating the meat around the margins because it was cooked more, so more than 50% of the steak I couldn't eat. The steak was sitting on a bed of polenta. I remember that being very tasty last year, but this year it was bland and almost tasteless. There was nothing else on the plate - just a slab of fatty, undercooked meat on a bed of polenta. My wife's meal was not as bad, but she remarked on the lack of variety in the menu (compared with last year) and said her meal was just so-so. The service was sub-par. I ordered a glass of wine, and really would have liked a second glass to have with my meal, but by the time the waitress came around, we were both done eating so there was no point. Finally, as far as ambience - although there were many tables open, they sat us right next to the bathroom. Our whole meal was punctuated with people coming and going from the bathroom. This place completely ruined our anniversary dinner. There is zero chance I'll ever return. read more

I'm sorry to report that I had very bad experience in my attempt to return to the Flat Iron grill to celebrate my wife on Mother's Day by returning for their Sunday brunch. Because we had such a wonderful experience last year we immediately thought of returning and even included our daughter and son-in-law this year's brunch Unfortunately what occurred was our server lost our order and failed to acknowledge that fact until after she had served all the other meals to patrons who were seated after our order. We arrived at our reservation at 11am and after a 45 minute wait she returned to say what occurred 20 minutes later we were severed. Came here with family to celebrate a birthday. Located in Gilman Village, it's a really nice place for special meal and a stroll to walk off the delicious meal. The staff here is very nice and friendly- a shout out to our server Colin who was also bartending. The liquor list is quite extensive, including whiskies. For our starter we had the roasted bone marrow- 2 large bones with toast points. Very flavorful, rich and filling. Main dishes- * filet mignon $48. 8oz of very flavorful and soft meat with a savory demi glacé. Had it medium rare and it was very tender. It was served with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus spears. *cowboy steak $47. It was a 11 oz boneless rib eye steak. Also tender and nicely seasoned. Birthday boy substituted the fingerling potatoes for the mashed potatoes. He liked my filet a little better though *paella $36. It was a very big serving full of clams, fish, shrimp and chicken. DIL liked it but it was a bit too greasy for her- my guess it was the olive oil. But she said it had a lot of flavor. *polenta $7. We got greedy and ordered that along with the bone marrow, resulting in us being unable to finish our meals! But it was worth every bite! The polenta was so nicely flavored and the goat cheese really made it pop. It was the table's favorite side. Definitely get this. Kids grilled cheese $11. Enjoyed the New York strip which was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the garlic mashed potatoes and mushrooms on the side were a good addition. My wife had the flat iron with the chimichurri sauce was very tasty as well, although a tad undercooked for her request of medium. I should have heeded the negative reviews before choosing this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our reservations were for 7/17/24 at 6:30 PM. We arrived about 30 minutes early, and fortunately, the hostess was able to seat us promptly. However, we were placed at a tall table, which was disappointing as I'm only 5'2" and could barely reach the chair, which was also wobbly. The hostess did not ask if the table was suitable; she simply placed the menus on the table and walked away. About 5-10 minutes later, our waitress arrived with waters and greeted us. We ordered an Espresso Martini, an Old Fashioned, Shucked Oysters, a Delmonico steak, and Duck. A few minutes later, our drinks arrived. As we enjoyed our cocktails, bread, and conversation, we noticed that 20-30 minutes had passed, and our oysters had not arrived. Meanwhile, a couple next to us, who arrived after us, had already received their ribs, which take longer to cook than shucking oysters. When we made eye contact with our waitress, she realized our appetizers were delayed and promptly offered to get them, asking if we wanted another round of drinks. Since we were in a good mood, we ordered some white wine. After another 5-10 minutes, our oysters arrived, followed shortly by our main courses. Unfortunately, our main courses were disappointing. My husband's steak lacked a proper sear, and my duck came with undercooked sweet potato gnocchi. Overall, the oysters and drinks were the only highlights of our meal. Additionally, the hostess, who was refilling waters and checking on other patrons, never once came to see if we needed anything. When our waitress returned, I informed her about the undercooked food. She apologized and said that it would be on them. She also comp the oysters on our bill. I had high expectations for this restaurant, especially since I mentioned our anniversary in the reservation, which was never acknowledged. Other restaurants have always made our anniversary special.
