All of the variables favored Flame Kabob when I stopped by for a take-out lunch earlier this week. I had a two hour block that was quite empty in my calendar, so I was not rushed. I had missed breakfast, so I was hungry. I had been to the gym, so I had no reservations about calories. I prefer Middle Eastern food to all others. Really, the situation had teed things up quite nicely for a good review and I set my expectations accordingly. Alas, my expectations were not met. The space, which you used to be occupied by Spice Indian Cafe is nicely arranged with about as much of a Moroccan or Middle Eastern flare as we can reasonably expect in a strip mall next door to a Subway and a Pizza Hut. I was quickly greated by a very pleasant young woman who cheerfully and efficiently took my order and accurately told me to expect a 10 minute wait. Since I was hungry and had missed breakfast, I ordered a vegetarian platter (Baba, Hummus, Taboule, vegetarian grape leaves, falafel) and a falafel wrap (served with fries). The price was certainly appealing, as my rather substantial meal came to only $17. Sadly, none of the food really measured up. I started with the falafel wrap. Although it was full of fresh vegetables and a delightful tahini, the falalfel was hard on the outside and mushy on the inside, with very little flavor. The falafel on the platter was no better. The hummus was creamy but apart from the oil that gently pooled on the surface, was surprisingly flavorless. The baba and taboule was a bit more flavorful than the hummus but still nothing that would drive me back for more. I would describe the grape leaves but they did not leave enough of an impression for me to even begin to do so. Ho hum. My meal at Flame Kabob offered sustenance. Nothing more. Cedar's need not fear any competition. read more

Great little mom and pop type Mediterranean food place in the marketplace shopping plaza. Having grown up in the area, I've seen the current store front change many times but since flame kabob came into its space, there have been no changes and for good reason. Had the meat shawarma sandwich and it was delicious! After living in DC and London, it was good to find a good Middle Eastern place near my new home. Diner in outside and it was delightful. The food is delicious and tastes authentic. The service is even better. We came almost near closing thinking we would pick up our takeout and leave! They let us sit outside (we had a dog), still provides us service, and brought us to-go water without us even asking. Incredibly thoughtful if you ask me :) They were closing up and clearing out the patio furniture, but made it a point to come over and tell us it was no rush for us to leave because they typically stay an extra hour to clean. Maybe I'm biased since I was lucky enough to have amazing middle eastern food when living in south eastern michigan; that being said this place fell short of my expectations. I used the check in coupon for the free appetizer and we got the falafel which as okay, a little over cooked. I ordered the Shish Tawook and my boyfriend (who I was having go outside his comfort zone by even eating here) had the #31 (didn't catch the name). Both were okay, the chicken was moist and charred just right. His was okay too, not something I'd order again though. What was the most disappointing was the garlic spread, I'm used to basically a pungent, puréed garlic with a hummus like consistency. One that's so good I day dream about it now that I live up north. Anyways this was like garlic flavored mayonnaise. It grossed me out to the max. Service was pretty atrocious too, had to wait like 20 minutes for our check while the server sat down and chatted with the other server. Best Mediterranean place in the area. Staff is super friendly and super helpful every time I go. They have lots of vegetarian options and are very vegan friendly which is something I was looking for. Placed a order for pick up and Mohammed was super helpful in letting me know which dishes I could order to fit my eating habits. I ordered the Mazza and he let me know I could substitute any of the items for vegan friendly options. Love this place!!! read more

Wow! I can't believe these folks had four stars! I ordered food through Grubhub and it got here fast, that's not the issue. I asked for very little lettuce on my gyro, it came loaded with it. The meat was just huge chunks and the tzatiki was tasteless (the only way to tell what it was is by the color). The pita was thick and falling apart. The whole thing was just bland. Now let's talk about the tiramisu. It was frozen for starters, yeah frozen. It had some flavor but not much. I paid way too much for this food. read more

The food also came out really fast which was amazing and the servers were really nice. We waited nearly an hour for food and left after a table next to us that had come in 20 minutes after us were served and had eaten their entire meal. When we pointed that out to our waitress, she kind of ignored us after telling us that the other table had "ordered different things that were simpler to cook" that was not accurate as half the table that had gotten their food had ordered kabobs too. The most frustrating thing was that after we pointed it out to her she ignored it and did not even walk into the kitchen to check on our food. I love eating here. I typically eat here with my family every week. The kids will eat children's chicken kebabs which come at a very affordable price and large portions that come with the rice. The chicken kebabs are always cooked perfectly. My wife and I typically get the Kabob combination which is a ton of food. It is a great combination of different kebabs - kefta, lamb and chicken. Don't sleep on this place! Also checking to get the free appetizer on yelp. If a big meal is not your thing, peep the sandwiches. Shawarma is my favorite! read more

We've been eating here for over 2 years. Very fresh, authentic middle eastern food. The babganoush is very good, as are the stuffed grape leaves. The chicken kabob or shish tawook wrap is very tasty. Also the shish tawook platter is very good. They can make the side salad Greek, which I recommend. The lentil soup is fantastic as well. My boyfriend enjoys their gyro meat, but I haven't tried it. I did try the shwarma once and wasn't impressed. The falafel is good though. This is a great place for something healthier and fresh. Be sure to use their garlic sauce on the rice- yum! read more

The food was very good, but the customer service was very bad. I went there last night and there were only two waitresses, serving a crowded restaurant. Surprisingly,one of them is the casher??? We decided to stay in after a long day of searching. But since we came and the waitress saw us walking in She Did not Seem to care about us so we choose to seat ourselves and after a while she came and ask what we want. I have been a regular customer at this restaurant and I usually go with my regular chicken shawarma and like always I was expecting it to be good and tasty but guess what it's completely unimaginable this time. I ordered a to go of two chicken shawarma and I had few bites in my car and in my 3 bite i felt like I bit a stone and it was painful and when I took it would it is a metal screw that we use in a wall I don't know how the hell they put it in the food but I am completely upset and I took it back and they replaced it but they didn't feel surprised or at least sorry about this so yeah I am done with this restaurant and I am never going back again. I damaged my teeth and It is hurting very bad with the pain. I had two goals: 1) find a really good non-chain restaurant and 2) find lamb on the menu that meets or exceeds my high expectations. Check and Check! The size of the restaurant inside was small but very comfortable. The menu had a number of good selections but not too large indicating they were experts at what they made. I appreciated the option of being able to eat at an outdoor covered area. I had kabobs, salad with a small side of hummus. I would have liked some type of bread but none was delivered. I ordered the mint tea. It came hot and was delicious. I also noticed they had a fairly hardy carry-out business. I highly recommend you try out this restaurant. DELICIOUS falafels! My husband and I grew up in the Middle East and we always crave authentic falafels and this place was the best of the tons of middle eastern places we've tried. Flame Kabob is located in a corner unit of the shopping plaza called "The Marketplace at Dr. Phillips". I suspect a lot of people just pass it by because it is a modest-looking restaurant, and it never seems to be very busy. That is unfortunate because this little place serves the best Middle-Eastern food in Orlando. We always get the Appetizer Combo Plate, which includes falafel, kibbeh, baba ghanoush, hummus, stuffed grape leaves, tabouli, and pita. We usually also add a gyro wrap. (Get extra tzatziki sauce). The baklava is also very good. The food is just delicious. Truly, I have never had better Middle Eastern food at any other restaurant. Don't let the modest interior of the restaurant dissuade you from trying it. The focus here is on the quality of the food, and not on trying to make fancy surroundings. Absolutely terrible. The tables in the outside seating are were not clean. We ordered a greek salad, two gyros and a fry. The greek salad came out with no dressing and we had to wait a long time to get the servers attention about that. The gyros must have been sitting a long time as they were soggy and cold.
