Chicken, Beef Bowl with Brown Rice and Avocado
    Julia M.

I got a "Regular" Bowl with Beef, Chicken, Veggies, Avocado. I added some of her "Magic Sauce" which is a soy based sauce, and some of her Jalapeño Hot Sauce... I could have drankkkk the Magic Sauce. Everything was fresh and delicious. Next time I'll get a "Mini Bowl" so I don't eat so much!!!!

As the saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice. Shame on me." But, this time it wasn't my mother who tricked me into eating my veggies (or eating healthier.) It was The Flame Broiler and that darn Magic Sauce. Now, I am convinced that healthy eating is the best when it comes to fast food options. After countless suggestions, I found myself dining at their San Marco location for lunch. Their $5 Special (Chicken Bowl with a fountain drink) totally caught me by surprise as I was browsing their menu selections. And the staff was helpful with guiding through my first experience of dining with them. The establishment was clean but, I'm assuming they had a bit of a lunch rush as the napkin container was completely empty which also proved to me that their food must be delicious. This restaurant is true to their mission, a healthier alternative for fast food; and has been placed on my radar for that reason alone.

    Chicken bowl.

Good healthy food made to order. Good service. A better take out place but sit down is available.

Fast food never looked so yummy. Love grabbing a work lunch from here since it's something a bit different from the usual sandwiches and soups. This is an office favorite actually. If anyone ever says "flame broiler?" there are never any complaints which is so rare! This is an order at the counter and have your bowl created in front of you. Think of subway for korean take out. I love getting a veggie base because then I'm not worried about rice sticking in my teeth all day. Plus it's an easy way to trick myself into eating healthier. They have the protein options of beef, chicken, and tofu. I'm still not brave enough to try the tofu because I don't want to sacrifice my tasty beef! Everything is always seasoned to perfection and cooked really well whether it's the protein, the veggies, or the rice. I would highly recommend this fast food joint. Stop by the sauce bar and grab some magic and hot sauces to go. Be warned the extra hot is exactly that, extra hot!

    Weekend special.

There's not many happy hour opportunities I get when I'm working during the week, however, I make it my business to get here. All things considered, the San Marco location is walking distance from my job. From the hours of 2p to 5p, you're able to get a mini chicken bowl and drink for under $5. Yeah, I'll take two of those please, one for now and one for an hour from now. If you're thinking of stopping by, there's parking in the back but there's also street parking as well, typically where I go. San Marco is a busy street, be mindful if you're thinking of parking along the front. When you walk in, you'll smell the freshly grilled chicken, see the steam from the veggies and by this point, you're ready to order. Some of your options range from brown or white rice, your veg choices are carrots, broccoli and cabbage. For your protein, there's tofu, chicken and beef stir fry style of meat. In the event you're going for chicken, you can add white meat for an upcharge, although, I'd stick with the dark meat, it's more flavorful. On top, have them add the green onions as an incentive, splurge a little. Before you leave, be sure to walk over to the sauce station and grab their magic sauce and some of their hot sauce. If you're feeling really frisky, get some of the XXX hot sauce. I'm a fan of mixing the magic sauce and XXX, it's a spice take on teriyaki. If you're one that enjoys something simple and a healthier option to Chinese take-out, give Flame Broilers a try. If you're disappointed, hey, well, don't blame me, blame your taste buds. Pffft!!

Fresh. Simple. Delicious. *Gordon voice* But seriously, same thoughts for me. Flame broiler is a fast food franchise. Most of the items are pre cooked but don't let that turn you off. They serve teriyaki rice bowls. They come with grilled chicken, steak, or tofu, served with either white/brown rice and mixed veggies. This joint is perfect if you're trying to loose weight but craving for a big bite. You can ask for just mixed veggies only without rice. Use the magic sauce for that extra teriyaki flavor and the a small amount of the hot sauce(yes, they're very hot). Now this ain't your traditional Korean cuisine so don't expect any lettuce wraps and kimchi. Though I hope they had kimchi at least. Lol One thing that stood out with my experience here is the manager is doing paper work and there's only one person in front of us in the line but she quickly dropped what she was doing to assist and make sure we got everything we needed. I really appreciate that. We ordered, food is ready right away and we left pretty satisfied. Forgot your meal prep? Go to Flame Broiler!

We came in through the back since we wanted to sit outside. It was a little hot, but the outdoor area was still enjoyable with a big shade tree in the middle. Definitely a good vibe on the patio. We ordered our food and, for how slow it was inside, the wait felt longer than it should have been. The restaurant wasn't very busy at all, with more people sitting outside than inside. Unfortunately, most of the food came out lukewarm. My roast beef sandwich and potatoes were barely warm, like they'd been sitting for a while, and the bottom bread was completely soaked. Our daughter's grilled cheese came out with the cheese not even melted, so we sent that back along with my sandwich. The salmon and quinoa also arrived lukewarm. The fried fish was cooked too long in the fryer and wasn't great. The bright spot was the short rib tacos my wife ordered. She said those were really good and probably the best thing we had. I do want to give credit where it's due. Our server was incredibly kind, attentive, and professional. He genuinely saved the experience for us and handled everything with a great attitude. Bathrooms were also clean, which I always appreciate. Overall, the experience was average. Not a top pick for me, but I'd be open to giving it another try in the future to see if things improve. Just wanted to leave an honest review of our visit.

Ultimately, I decided to sample the bacon, egg, and cheese wrap. It was quite good. I believe they used a cheddar that was a bit strong for my taste and would have preferred some milder cheese options (like provolone). Regardless, it was tasty. My only complaint (and this may be specific to me) is that they did not have a cola flavored diet drink to offer. Yes, I admit, I need my Diet Coke with my meal. So, I had to walk around the corner and find a place to sell me a soda. Other than that, a great option for a meal.

We were greeted warmly when we arrived and seated immediately, and the atmosphere had a welcoming energy that made the restaurant feel like a true neighborhood gathering place. It was so impressive that we awarded it our Culinary Duo Best of the Best dish recognition, which is something we reserve for truly standout dishes. Peter went in a different direction and ordered the Sweet Potato Pancakes with house made white cheddar hash browns. The pancakes were flavorful and comforting, and the hash browns were crispy with bold cheddar flavor that made them impossible to stop eating. Another thing we appreciated was learning that Biscottis carries the Slow Food First Coast Snail of Approval, recognizing restaurants that support sustainable agriculture and local food traditions. She made sure to check up on us, answered all of our questions, and refilled our drinks often. It was super clean there too! We were started off with some fresh, warm bread and a balsamic/olive oil dipping sauce. The bread was perfectly crispy and went so well with the dipping sauce. We were served cold bread before at restaurant so I'm glad we had warm bread! We decided on the following appetizer and entrees: Fried meat ravioli - 8/10: it came out piping hot and it was so delicious! Fried to a nice, golden brown and covered in panko crumbs, it didn't feel heavy at all. It came with a fresh marinara sauce and had parmesan cheese sprinkled on top of the fried ravioli. Each bite was cheesy, crispy, tasty, meaty, and we devoured it quickly! Carbonara Alla Roma - 8.5/10: I thought the portion would be small since I seen photos online but it was actually a great portion. I had enough to take home and eat as leftovers! The pasta was cooked perfectly and the alfredo sauce was balanced and decadent. I could taste the pecorino romano, and cracked black pepper. The pancetta was smoky and added a nice umami flavor to the pasta. I didn't rate it higher because it was slightly missing a little bit of of that BAM factor! but it was pretty delicious! The Sofi - chicken - 9/10: Oh my gosh! My best friend got this and I wished I would have too! It was sooooooooooooooooooo good! It had prosciutto di parma, mushrooms, asparagus, shallots, cooked in wine and tossed in a rose cream sauce. The pasta was also cooked perfectly and that sauce was to die for! Each bite was like tasting the finest flavors and spices of Italy. I could not believe how tasty this was! If you come here, you HAVE to try this dish! Tiramisu - 9.5/10: One of the best tiramisus we've had in Jacksonville. It was the perfect amount of espresso and cream. They had dollops of chocolate sauce on the side and helped elevated the flavor of the tiramisu. It also wasn't super sweet which we appreciate. We don't really like overly sweet desserts and this one hits the mark on everything. Overall, service, food, and atmosphere was great! We would definitely come back to try other menu items! The menu has a ton of variety, and several sandwiches my colleagues ordered looked absolutely fantastic. I ordered the monster hot dog, and the wiener definitely lived up to the menu name. The flavor was decent, see the pic, clearly not your average hot dog. Unfortunately, they forgot the sauerkraut, which felt like a pretty noticeable oversight for a European/German-style dish and something I wish had been double-checked before sending out the order. The biggest disappointment for me was the German potato salad. I know authentic German potato salad is supposed to be vinegar-forward and very different from traditional creamy potato salad, and I usually enjoy that style. But this version was extremely runny -- almost soup-like -- and the vinegar level was overpowering even for someone who enjoys acidic flavors. I ended up not being able to eat it. That said, there was still enough potential here that I'd absolutely give them a second chance. The sandwiches around me looked incredible, and next time I'll probably go with a Reuben or another sandwich option instead.
