I was assigned to a room and a group of doctors and nurses who took excellent care of me throughout a two-night stay. The staff did an excellent job in diagnosing and stabilizing my condition, and while the process of being awakened throughout the night for medication and testing/vital signs is frustrating, it's understandable. Some areas of focus could be to reduce the amount of directing patients towards the app for test results and surveys - I question whether all of those surveys truly serve a valuable purpose. I highly commend the nursing staff, though I never really was certain who was in charge of making medical decisions on my behalf. Overall, an excellent service with highly professional people who I will always sincerely appreciate.

I've not had a reason to visit Baptist Beaches for a personal reason. I've been there to visit a…read morefriend and to take a family member there for their own injuries. While visiting my friend 5-ish years ago things didn't sit quite right with me. She was in the hospital for nearly a month with an excruciatingly painful kidney infection that just wouldn't heal quickly nor easily. To me, that seemed odd... but I'm not a doctor. She didn't seem to be getting what she needed to heal properly. Upon being discharged she sought other doctors for prolonged care. About two years ago, my mom fell and dislocated her shoulder. I took her to the emergency room at Baptist Beaches. Knowing she was in pain, she wasn't actually seen for any type of care (just checked in and places in a room for several hours before even meeting the ER doctor. While waiting she wasn't given anything for her pain, either.... Not even some ice to place on the shoulder. Once the doctor came him he was VERY short with her and spoke rather rudely, almost as if to childishly mock her because she, too, was being short and raising her voice. However, she was the one in pain! He even threatened to 'walk out of the room and not come back' after she told him that she didn't want morphine. She related it to another family member's death and it was an unpleasant trigger for her. He behaved quite immaturely as I waited for him to stomp his feet as he left the room. I literally had to be a referee for the two of them. To this day, my mom STILL cannot lift her arm much higher than where her elbow is. However, that is in part because she didn't go to physical therapy after her injury. A couple of months ago, I again had to take my mother to the ER immediately following a visit with her general practitioner. It was discovered that she had a blood lot in her leg. To this day, we don't know how big it is, if it's dissipated, where she's bleeding from, or exactly how serious it was. We DO know that this visit was much more palatable for her 5 day stay. The nurses were more polite and orderly in their interactions with her. They seemed to be knowledgeable and very thorough with their responsibilities and communications. In both cases, I'm grateful to have had an emergency room so close to her home!

A Shocking Lack of Respect for a Cardiology Patient with Baptish Medical Center Beaches…read more I had an appointment scheduled with my cardiologist, Dr. Cox, at Baptist Beaches Cardiology Center in Jacksonville Beach for 8:15 a.m. on September 17, 2026. I arrived approximately 10 minutes early, only to be told that I was not on the schedule. I made this appointment last February, more than seven months ago. At some point, Dr. Cox's schedule changed, and my appointment was canceled. However, no one bothered to make certain I knew about the cancellation or arrange another timely appointment. I drove to the office expecting to receive an important cardiology checkup and review the results of my CT scan. Instead, I was casually informed that I had no appointment. Then came the truly unbelievable part. I was told that Dr. Cox's next available appointment would not be until sometime in April 2027. That would mean waiting approximately 14 months from the time I originally scheduled this appointment just to see my own cardiologist. When I expressed how unacceptable that was, the response was that they are very busy this time of year. Apparently, "this time of year" now lasts until next April. The only alternative they offered was an appointment with a physician assistant approximately seven weeks from now to review my CT scan. Therefore, after already waiting more than seven months for today's appointment, I must now wait another seven weeks to discuss the results with a PA because my actual cardiologist cannot see me until next spring. This is cardiology, not a routine haircut or restaurant reservation. Patients are dealing with heart conditions, medical tests, serious concerns, and genuine anxiety. Canceling a long-scheduled appointment without ensuring the patient is properly notified is irresponsible. Making that patient wait another seven weeks to review a CT scan, while offering no appointment with the cardiologist until April, demonstrates a stunning lack of respect and concern. Baptist Beaches Cardiology Center appears to have forgotten that patients are human beings, not numbers to be moved around on a schedule. If a physician's schedule changes, the responsibility belongs to the practice to contact affected patients promptly and provide reasonable alternatives. It should never be the patient's responsibility to arrive for an appointment and discover at the front desk that it disappeared. I find the way I was treated disrespectful, dismissive, and completely unacceptable. Being "busy" is not an excuse for poor communication, inadequate scheduling, or leaving a cardiology patient waiting months to review important test results. Baptist Health should be embarrassed by this level of patient service. Patients deserve communication, accountability, timely care, and basic respect. I received none of those things today.

When I was in the room with him or even in the hall, they said hello, acknowledged me, asked how I was doing. It was truly amazing and I have not experienced this in many hospitals. They were able to bring in the specialists he needed and diagnosed him in just a few hours. The quality of care was truly top notch at this facility. Even his discharge was quick and efficient - also not always the case. Very grateful for their hard work and support - it made the entire experience much less hectic and stressful than it could have been.

I will say up front, that during my two visits (one in 2019, this one in Nov.2026) for procedures and tests (including overnight stays) at Ascension St. Vincent's Southside Hospital (apparently this is the real name) have been among the best, if not the best medical care I've received in a hospital. Having what I perceived as a medical emergency, St. Vincent's was chosen for me in 2019 by the NAS Hospital because of an emergency procedure I needed on my left side. I remembered that and this time I got to pick where I would go for hospital care. Room set up was ready for me when I arrived. The ambulance ride went very well and both paramedics were solid professionals and very courteous. I wound up staying at St. Vincent's for about two days. There were three tests and photos taken of my heart. One thing that I was sad about was how many times needles were being pressed into my arms! - I still have great veins to work with! But they were totally uncooperative on this visit. I should have suggested the butterfly! But setting up for further blood pulls probably would eliminate the use of a butterfly syringe. I will say each tech who worked with me did it in a careful manner, which I appreciated! I can say that I've worked in hospitals as a chaplain a been a patient on multiple occasions too! Knowing it from both angles really helps in giving an assessment of a hospital staff and the care they provide. I liked that St. Vincent's provides morning and evening prayers that are heard across the the hospital both morning and evening. A Catholic hospital I once worked in years ago provided this service too (even I gave some!). I had two fantastic nurses, both first class!! Sara and Doug took awesome care of me by visiting my room rather frequently and fulfilling any requests I had promptly. I did make one mistake while I was there and I'm thankful that they helped correct me. I enjoyed talking with numerous staff personnel and can say for the most part, they really seemed to enjoy working here and were committed to the care of the patient. The only strike (not a star) I have took place at breakfast when I found food seasoning rather than Splenda I had ordered for my coffee! Well, I did call back and asked for a correction, but it never came :( I don't hold it against them - I was discharged not long after eating. As for my tests, I have some life changes to make. I'm thankful St. Vincent's made some arrangements for me to begin that process in the near future. Hopefully the VA will work with me on this one too! This hospital has been around for a good number of years. It does show its age on the floors. I was on 3 North and it was very active up there. I don't believe this calls for a renovation yet, but it might need to be in the works sometime in the not too distant future. Oh! Another thing that showed the floor staff was solid was that my room was right next to the nurses station. I could hear conversations throughout day and night. Never once did I hear anything negative, inappropriate, or a single gripe. In all, I was very well-treated here and truly am grateful for the care I received at Ascension St. Vincent's Southside Hospital. PS- I want to add another to my list of mentions. My assigned doctor, Dr. Ijaz was truly fantastic in her patient care! She understood my situation well and gave some explanations on things I hadn't thought about. She also set up my first appointment with a cardiologist as I begin life's next journey. As I was soon to leave the hospital, she called me to give advice on making sure I work with the VA as I am in that system for future care. She went the extra mile, for which I'm very grateful. They scanned her med list... and then didn't give them to her, even when she asked. Forgot to send her GI consult. (The *reason* we went to the ER, and 12 hrs lost). Forgot to stop her bloodthinners (48 hours lost). We asked FOR FOUR DAYS for her breathing meds. They ignored us, even when we told them we wanted it documented. She couldn't breathe, and these idiots *tried to bully her* into surgery with racking, spasming coughs*. Had to push back surgery AGAIN. What should have taken 3 days was a *9 day* stay. THEN -after all this stuff that they knew they screwed up on- they tried to give her the general anesthesia *that her doctor said she could not have as it would kill her*. Oh, and when I wrote down all these concerns and asked to speak to everyone's boss, she avoided me for 5 hours, accused me of "harassment" when I waited outside her office because her shift was ending. She then brought security to my mother's room (to flex on me), and when my 81 year old mother told her, "Well, if you hadn't ghosted her, she wouldn't have had to come look for you," the "Boss" leaned down and yelled in my mother's face. Have pictures of how disgusting it was: filthy doors, blood and what I *hope* was chocolate cake smeared on the floors, a sewage leak from the 2nd floor over the coffee shop that I have reported *for two years running* and is still there (and they KNOW this because they have "cleaned" and painted over it), there was even a *pothole* in the floor with broken chunks of tile in it. Oh, and *they put someone with MRSA* in the room with my 81 yr old, immunocompromised mother. Take your chances on the street. This place is NOT where you should go to receive even the most basic of care. NEGATIVE 5 STARS!
