There are produce stands a plenty in the area, and many laid out more attractively than this very rustic farm stand. However! The homemade pies here stand out from all the other ones. They don't come wrapped in plastic and stamped with a label. You really have no idea who makes these or what allergens might be in there! There's just a small, handwritten script label of the pie flavor. And according to long-time owner Norman, some nice old ladies make these pies for him and the no frills packaging and cursive scrawl would support this! The flavors range from blueberry, cherry, apple, strawberry rhubarb, and berries of the forest. The latter two are my faves. The pie lattice is SUPREME! Even my very skilled baker friend commented on this when I shared a slice with her. The filling is fruity, though sometimes you get more sauce than fruit chunks. Still that doesn't stop me from devouring this delicious creation.

Huge place and great to bring the kids…read more We went for strawberry picking for Father's Day. I like that you only pay for what you pick. No entrance fee per person and no parking fee (Unlike many other farms). The downside was that there were not many strawberries. The ones we did pick were already wilting within 24hours. I think we caught the end of picking season. The farm is about 1/4 mile down from the market /cafe/brewery. The market is cute and has a lot of pantry items as well as fresh produce. They also serve lunch (chicken sandwich, etc). I was surprised at how expensive everything was. It was $18 for the chicken sandwich. It was well fried and came with a good portion of salad. However, the chicken itself was very small. It also took 20 min to be served. Another option is the airstream in the back. They were selling hot dogs. They had some local dogs that were pretty tasty. The brewery on premise was great. They had a play area to keep the kids occupied, tables/chairs and the World Cup was on. Can't really get better than that. There is also a goat pen in the back of the market. You can pay for some food and the kids can feed the goats. A lot of places charge you just to see the goats. This place doesn't haggle you like that. Great place. I wish they were closer to the city!

When we arrived, on June 17, 2026, prime season for strawberries and snap peas, we were greated by a friendly young woman named Erin, who operated the admission booth. She provided us with two small containers for the snap peas and two larger for the strawberries and explained that we can pick whatever we want, and only pay for what we harvest. We acquired some beautifully fresh snap peas and freshly sweet strawberries. We visited the store, which offered typical farm store goods. There was nothing overly impressive about the store, but it is worth a look. We loved this place and even though it is more than an hour away, this will be our go to place to pick your own fruits and vegetables. We are looking forward to bluberries season in early July!

Golden Harvest was one of those farms, chosen by my husband who planned the entire trip. I was along for the ride. It's quaint and hard to miss with its bright-red, apple-shaped sign. We parked in front of the shop, and the smell of freshly baked goods greeted us when we entered. At that moment I knew this place would not disappoint. The counter had pies, turnovers, and cookies on display, but we came with a mission: secure a cider donut. It's so refreshing to see donuts sold at a reasonable price. For $1.35, these were a steal compared to the $6 ones sold in the city. (Yes, $6 for a single!) The donuts, which were still warm when we had them, were generously coated with cinnamon sugar. You could taste the apple cider with each bite. I would have ordered more, but I was saving my appetite for barbecue. (See my review for their smokehouse on my profile!)

Was looking at raspberries which looked really squished and had some flies and debating whether to buy and tried ONE. I quickly got scolded by a male worker who stood and stared at me and then loudly announced " I was eating all his berries." Very embarrassing. Disappointed that my items were put in a Georgia peaches box as I had naively assumed they were locally grown. On the way out decided to try the BBQ. Stood at the counter while two young girls stared at me no greeting, asking if I could order and they said Yeah rudely. Ordered a $4 iced tea, pulled pork sandwich and my partner got the smash burger. We asked for a cup of water and was told no, only the $2 bottled water. Ok. Burger was awful, thin, not cooked through and $12 for fast food quantity with no side. Pulled pork sandwich was ok but not at all worth $14. Came to almost $40 for two sandwiches that was not worth it. Got home and cut open an apple and it was rotten inside. Not a good visit at all.

The baked goods are very good, and the aroma of fresh pies, muffins, and bread reels you in whether you planned on buying something or not. The place is always busy, and sometimes it's hard to park, which brings me to why I have given only three stars. Green Acres takes in enough money to repair the entrances/exits. But again this year, we have to bounce into holes and severe dips precisely when we're trying to enter the stream of traffic on 82. It's distracting and dangerous and needs to be fixed.

Roxbury Farm is amazing…read more Shortly after I moved to the Captial Region ThinkAnd D. told me about this great little farm called Roxbury that he thought I would really enjoy. He is one of the few people whose taste I trust without reservation. So I immediately went to their website to try and subscribe to the CSA. Unfortunately I was too early. I marked the date when perspective members could apply for a share, and on that day I went back to the site. As it turned out the farm wasn't quite ready yet, and suggested I check back in a few days. The tragedy was that when I finally returned, all the open slots had already been filled. So I had to wait another year, and even then I was only able to get a share at a less than convenient site. It was only this past season that I finally was able to become a member at the drop-off site nearest to my home. With two years under my belt, I have seen bounty and I have seen loss. That's part of the CSA model. Your fate is tied to the farms. What you get is at the mercy of the weather. From that perspective 2011 was brutal. An early hail pushed off the start of the season. And even after a hurricane that flooded the creek and destroyed a massive amount of the farm's crops, they miraculously continued to deliver amazing vegetables (you can see the photo above for yourself). It was the subsequent tropical storm that really was devastating. The season had to end a few weeks early, and winter storage crops had to be used to prolong the deliveries for as long as possible. Even with these losses, my love for this farm is undiminished. Their biodynamic produce is delicious. The best corn is corn that has just been picked. I love the flood of tomatoes, red peppers and cucumbers at the height of summer. They combine naturally in a panzanella salad that requires no cooking just at the time of year when you don't want to turn on your stove. Winter out here is long. When summer rolls around, it should be celebrated. And there is no better way of celebrating it than eating freshly harvested produce that was grown nearby. I can't say enough good things about this farm. I can just thank them for all their hard work and happily keep subscribing to their CSA.

First off, let me make it clear that I am not, nor have ever been, a hippie. I hate granola and…read moreretch at the faintest scent of patchouli. When I see a sitar, I reach for my gun.* But I love, love, love cooking and eating well. And I love love love supporting alternative community endeavors. Roxbury Farm falls under the rubric of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). For those not familiar with CSAs, for an annual fee one essentially becomes a 'shareholder' in a farm for the duration of a growing season, receiving a portion of the farm's output on a weekly basis. We're very fortunate in this area because there's quite a few CSAs to choose from. Roxbury, though, is one of the oldest in the nation, has standards that go far beyond the government's definition of acceptable 'organic' farming standards, and is socially conscious, delivering free food to local pantries. Their weekly newsletter displays a pragmatic sensitivity to regional issues that I rarely see around this area. Roxbury's weekly share is geared for a family of three, and they've got dozens of drop-off points scattered about the immediate area, making pickup very convenient. For example, the distance to my drop-off location is a short bike ride away (but there's so much food that the trip really demands a car). Most of the produce is what you'd expect from this region, but the quality is vastly superior, and every once in a while you'll get something relatively surprising, like bok choy, garlic scapes, or some unusual pepper or green not available in local supermarkets. In terms of quantity, I can say that we've never finished off a weekly order without freezing or preserving some of it. It's a little pricey, but well worth it, especially if you've got a freezer or know canning. You'll have great vegetables (and fruit and meat, if you like) all year.
