I give Five Star Floors, 5556 Spring Park Road, Jacksonville, Fl 32216, 1 star and here's why. My floors creak and pop at least every other step. It's a constant reminder that this company has cheated me. At first Roy Wellman, the owner, was willing to stand behind his warranty for the LVP floor that was installed July 11, 2024. He asked me to be patient but now 5 months into this process he has stopped communicating with me and done nothing to correct the problem other than filing a claim with the manufacture of CPF-Spirit XL Luxury Vinyl Planks (8.0mm). Both Roy and the manufacturer's representative came to my house to do an inspection 3 months after the installation. Obviously, Roy noted a problem with the floor on his first visit 1 month after installation and told me he would fix it one way or the other. I called the day after installation to report the problem. The two installers who initially came to inspect the floor 48 hours after installation also noted the noise which is why Roy inspected it and filed the claim. The manufacturer said there was no product defect, so Roy has decided to ignore me after telling me he would repair or replace the floor even if the claim was denied. Now my only recourse is Small Claims Court which will cost me somewhere around $500 and who knows what the outcome will be. I'm willing to spend that on top of what I paid for the floor because I'm sick of seeing companies, large and small, mistreat customers. It's not right and I'm not just going to suck it up! read more

I am absolutely thrilled with the results of my flooring installation!!! Got rid of that shaggy carpet and they came in, did their job and left with no ends to tie up! I appreciate how seamless everything is because I honestly am not interested in buying materials and figuring out something I have no experience with. First, Roy took his time explaining various product types and styles; he worked with me to select what was best given I have two (2) larger dogs. He allowed me to take a sample home to ensure I would be happy with my selection. On the day of installation, Roy and his team consisting of Corey, G. Ryan and Robert arrived at 0828, two (2) minutes early!!! Quickly and efficiently like a well oiled machine they removed my old floor. Both floors looked flawless, so we had Roy come out and provide us with an estimate. He took his time to measure our floors, give us advice on the type of flooring to spend our money on, and worked with us on the most cost-effective way to achieve the look we wanted. When the day finally arrived for our flooring installation, the team was professional, knowledgeable, neat, tidy, and incredibly FAST. I was surprised how quickly and efficiently they installed our floors with as little dust as possible. They said my place will look so much better when they're done. Please, it's a disaster and they won't stand behind their work. They cut all the vinyl flooring in the front yard without a tarp under their saw. There's piles of vinyl in the yard. I paid for the toilets to be taken off and put back on. I ended up paying a plumber $675 to do what I paid them to do and I was told I already paid and they don't refund anything. They walked away with tape on the stairs that have gaps. The quarter round is lower than before and they didn't scrape old caulk off or caulk some areas. Horrible job. The painters showed me what they were supposed to do. I got an estimate from them, but I was nervous of the quality of flooring when another company showed me their product so I inquired via the website about the thickness, etc. of Five Stars. The owner, Roy called me on a Friday evening to clarify. The quality in Five Stars planks met all my expectations. Their name really does say it all. I was shocked at $5.99 sqft I would receive such a great product along with them moving my large furniture, removing my carpet and filling in holes in concrete, installing floor, installing quarter round AND putting my furniture back. From the gentleman that came out to give me an estimate, to Peggy in the office helping us with our selection and definitely the installers...the staff is awesome. I had no issues with the floor installation. Trim was installed poorly. There are visible seams/lines in the baseboard and quarter rounds. Cabinets look good minus them installing a damaged door (they allegedly ordered a new one which was not true) and the missing shelves (that come with the base cabinets). Whoever the guys were that were hired to install the cabinets kept the shelves and never delivered them. Despite being promised by the company. Never happened. I do not recommend cabinet and granite installation from Five star services. One, I don't know who the guys were that installed the cabinets. Roy hired them from somewhere...We wanted pull handles and we got knobs. The granite backsplash didn't cover the old laminate seam. I asked multiple times and was told it would. Of course Roy will deny this. Roy spackled and painted to try and make it better but it looks poorly done. All in all this experience turned unprofessional towards the end when the final large payments were made. Also please keep in mind Roy, the owner is never wrong. Every issue that came up he had an excuse and we were wrong. Every issue. Roy talks highly of his company and it got to the point were he was constantly bragging about how much he makes, how he bought a cash car, how he's going to retire a millionaire, etc. I understand him wanting to make small talk but that just isn't professional. He also talked negatively about me and my wife to a close fiend of ours who we referred (prior to all of this happening). He also feels that being Gay is wrong but he made it clear that he doesn't treat people differently. As much as I appreciate him not treating people different you should not discuss sexual orientation to a customer. Everyone has their own opinion but for all he knows I could have a really close friend or family member who was gay. Roy can also become easily irritated if things don't go his way. My wife and I work. He was mad that I wasn't available at the time he wanted. He insulted me and said "do you think you have anything that I would want to steal?!" Because I told him I would prefer someone to be home. Because we have 3 large dogs and if they got out of the house and got hit by a car we would have a huge issue to deal with. He raised his voice to me on the phone while I was at work and I hung up on him. First thing you don't do when you want someone's service is yell at them. He later used that he was sick and wasn't feeling well. If you're sick you normally don't have the energy to yell. I kind of wish we went with Home Depot because I feel like the workers are held accountable. Home Depot would not have left our cabinets without shelves. But I love supporting local businesses so we decided not to go with Home Depot. I could go on but this review is long enough. I'm sure Roy will respond to this review and tell everyone how wrong I am. And I honestly don't expect anything less. I want to add that someone who also had work done by Roy was not happy with his customer service. Even my wife, who gives EVERYONE the benefit of the doubt wanted Roy out of our lives ASAP. Oh he also called me and my wife naive, to me on the phone because he thought we are in our 20's and knew nothing about home renovations. We are in our early 30's with college degrees.... I want to make sure that I mention that Corey (I believe is his name) and Robert were very polite and respectful when they were at the house. They did a great job with the floors. That's the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars and not 1. We just really expected better customer service. ***As expected Roy responds and makes it all about how I was in the wrong...nothing he said is true but it's whatever. So the customer should be allowed to ask questions and if they don't quite like what the company they are paying is doing, they should be able to. Not with this company!! They reeked of smoke and other and took a break every 30-45 minutes. When I pointed out a knick they said "we didn't do that"!! HELLO YOU PUT THE FLOORS DOWN AND NOBODY ELSE IN HOUSE. He tried to blame the plumber and he said he would look but probably couldn't help. Had an appointment with the owner Roy for estimate. Just to mention, he mostly talks about him self and what he has accomplished. The appointment should be about the customer, and not the owner. He never measured the home for vinyl flooring, but told me he will get the home plan from a builder. After over a week and three calls he never got the floor plan. I did contact the builder and provided it to him. Still after a week no estimate. Did call him again and he promised it will be ready in a few days. Since no response after few days, I went to his store. He promised that he has it ready, they just need to email to me. Few days later still nothing. Finally I called the office and they told me that they need to schedule an appointment to measure it. another week later they cancelled the appointment, and never asked me to reschedule. I had 5 Star Services install engineered hardwood in two rooms with different men working in each room. In one bedroom the installation was very good. However, in the other bedroom the installer did a poor job. Upon completion it looked good and we were happy. However, within months the floor in the one bedroom started popping. I called and they came back and injected wood glue/filler underneath each popping area. Well, it was OK for about 6 months and the popping floorboards all returned. I have been calling and texting Roy at 5 Star for almost a year now, and he never returns calls or if he does, promises to get back to me but never does. I am at the point where I will have to pay another floor installer to fix this issue because 5 Star has little or no customer service if you have any issues. If you decide to go with them, expect to pay more in the long run, because they do not stand behind their installation. read more

This whole thing has been a nightmare! It was all "We just want to make you happy", and "I just want everything done correctly" when we started, but now that we have issues with our flooring, and gaps in the floor boards they all of a sudden can't be bothered to deal with us, even though Robert Surface was constantly saying "If there are ever any issues just contact me, Even if it's 5 years down the road we will come fix it". When we do contact them we get the run around, and then "I'm in an istall, I can't deal with you right now", and then threats of violence. They say they stand behind their craftmanship and company being the best, but this is absolutely not true. The owner acts like your business is just a miniscule amount of money to him, and that it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of his wealth and how incredibly well he is doing financially. The fact that he feels the need to throw that into a conversation when you are just trying to have a job you paid for done correctly, should give anyone that is considering using this company a reason to reconsider and really think about what you are getting in to. I know that nothing is ever their fault and that I couldn't possibly be talking about their company, but I am not mistaken.
