Five Star Remodeling and Demolition has been issued a Warning Letter from the Arizona Registry of Contractors alleging violations that include failure to obtain required building permits and permits necessary for work on electrical, gas and plumbing fixtures. The letter specifies that violation of code in these instances are grounds for suspension or revocation of the contractor's license. Further, the Registrar has reserved the right to pursue disciplinary action against Five Star's license in the future. In addition, one of the multiple licenses under which Five Star operates (ROC-33078) has been suspended.
This Warning Letter was issued as a result of two complaints filed against Five Star. The complaints documented substandard work and damages incurred by us, as homeowners who contracted with Five Star for a full home remodel, at considerable expense. The AZ Registry of Contractors investigated the complaints and noted the substandard work and damages. The contractor was present at the investigation and when provided the opportunity to respond, did not deny any of it.
ROC informed us that if it issues a report substantiating the items noted, we would required by regulation to allow the contractor back in our house to repair everything for as long as it takes. This, of course, is ridiculous. Given that we are not letting Five Star return, the complaints were dismissed. Litigation did not provide any relief in this regard. We were forced to settle with Five Star and are in the process of paying tens of thousands of dollars to have their substandard work and damage repaired.
We would be happy to provide documentation of complaints and accompanying photos.
Anyone considering contracting with Five Star is given fair warning. read more
