Definitely worst PM I ever had. Right now, my hot water faucet seemed unable to shut the water down. I tried to reach the boiler which is in another unit - that person is at work. I had been calling the emergency line. It happened around 6:15 AM and it is now almost 8:45 AM. And the dumb thing won't open until 11AM and the water is still running. I have lived in the hidden valley town homes for 7 years. The last 2 years five star has not watered the yard next to my house. My neighbors have said they have flooding issues in their crawl spaces, and need the landscaping fixed to prevent that. So 5 stars solution to that is to not water the lawn? I lived in the Collegiate Inn apartments for two years. The day I moved in one of the carpets reeked of piss. Additionally, it was raining and water was pouring out of a vent onto the same carpet. I let the company know and they did nothing about it. Fast forward 2 years I moved out, and they kept my entire security deposit plus charged me for replacing that carpet + odor treatment. They never answer the phones, I have been trying to reach them for weeks and have left so many messages. I do not understand how they manage to evade their phones ringing as well as the thousands of messages I am sure are left on said phones. I have to say, stay away from this company first. Being a single parent soldier of a special needs child I have to be careful where I move each duty station. Found a place paid the $1399 deposit plus rent. Move in time took pictures and noted the damage and the pet smell downstairs and door damaged, outside duck tape on the window. They didn't fix the damages. Everytime we called for maintenance we recieved the run around and mood as thou we did it. That was just the first year. The second year after the inspection the female agent came and we pointed out the issues and nothing. She said not a problem and we signed for another year. But there is issue with rent. They up the rent and I couldn't cover it with my BAH. So after back and forth emails they went down to $1420. Surprise surprise almost a month before my lease is up on veterans day we get an email saying we have 30 days to vacate. Thank God for our Church help with move. It took a team from the church to move us and help clean. We paid over $400 in carpet cleaning. Turning in the keys was a relief to get away from this company. After 30 days we get a letter from five star listening the cleaning and repair charges taking my full $1399 plus more and saying we owe money to them. I contacted them by email and they sent me the move out report and we where being charged for damages we didn't do and noted on the move in inspection. We emailed them back and asked for a review and they sent back an email saying charges still stand. So glad I took pictures before we moved in and kept copies of all contact with them. Even have security video of the second inspection and on tape my mother pointing the issues and the agent saying, " no problem should be no issue." Five Star is terrible. It is a slum landlord that deserves to go out of business. Practices skirt (when not just violating) the margins of legality, and are totally unethical. They WILL take your deposit when you leave, even if you leave it better than you found it. But that's the least of it. They are difficult to reach, inconsistent with practices and policies, totally unhelpful at pretty much every stage of the process, including looking for a rental (especially from a distance if you are relocating), and just generally terrible. You name it (dangerous conditions they won't fix, misrepresentation of properties, fees for bizarre things, not answering office phones, saying one thing then changing their minds), this company has it all. To start with my daughter and I moved to Pocatello the end of 2018 and rented a townhouse from this company because we were in a hurry to get a place and it was quick. The first problem was about 4 months after we moved in. We came home one afternoon from shopping and noticed a line of ants going from the living room to the kitchen. Well I will be honest here, when it comes to a clean house I have a bit of OCD. My kids constantly laugh about how the house can't be the least bit messy or I go on a cleaning binge. So seeing insects was not something I could tolerate. I called 5 Star and was told that they DO NOT send someone to kill a few bugs. That was my responsibility. I had never in all the years I have rented heard of such a thing. But we went to the store and got some ant killer. The townhouse we rented had two floors. After a year and a half, we decided we needed to move. The reason being that I have severe neuropathy in my legs and climbing the stairs was proving difficult and dangerous as I actually fell due to loss of feeling in my legs on a couple of occasions. When we found a new place I sent an e-mail to 5 star to give them our 30 day notice. They responded that there was a specific form to fill out which I did on the 16th. I then received several e-mails requesting when I would return the keys. When I went in on the 1st to pay the partial rent (1st-16th) I was told that I needed to give a receipt for the carpet cleaner that they use for the carpet cleaning. I didn't have one and to be honest had no idea I had to do so. My experience was that if carpets needed cleaning then the rental company did it and deducted it from the deposit. I was told that either I gave a receipt for it or they would call for carpet cleaning and charge me for that AND charge me and additional 100.00 for doing so. I didn't have the money so they did so. I also spent 4 days wiping walls, moping floors, scrubbing down the kitchen and bathroom...in other words that place would have passed military inspection and I should know as among other things I am a Veteran, (also handicapped and a senior!!!) So trust me I know clean. Well I just got back from their office as it is now the 18th and their 30 days to refund me was up on the 16th, they actually told me they have 30 days from the end of my 30 day notice so even I can count. Well that is when they told me that none of the 720.00 deposit I paid was to be refunded to me and that in fact I owed them 250.00. I can't do anything about it as I was stupid enough not to take pictures when I moved in or out. So in closing please please if you plan to go ahead and rent from these people, make sure you take photos of EVERYTHING when moving in or out or you can look forward to joining my little club. This place is a joke. Run and RUN FAST! I understand some people have no choice other than to rent but I advise you to steer clear of these clowns. They take advantage of people. The good ones nonetheless! My family and I rented for 3 months (we moved to Idaho and then my husbands accepted a position back home). We left the place in TOP shape. When moving in it was not clean and we cleaned it up no problem. However they felt the need to cheat us out of our deposit?? We paid $935 and are only getting back $530.81. I attended the "final inspection" (what a joke) and was only addressed about a few things. However when I revived the "invoice" there were several things addressed that was not initially shown or told to me. including a $155 cleaning fee???? It WAS clean and you can't tell me it took 8 hours ($20/hour) to clean the already clean place? Also we lived their right at 3 months and so our filter Needed changed they charged $47 for that! What???? They fail to return phone calls or emails in a timely manner. Fortunately we moved back to Arkansas and will NEVER have to deal with them again. But I wouldn't recommend them to ANYONE. Lousy company, lousy management, and lousy employees. I understand some renters TRASH places and their deposit should be forfeited or less. However someone who leaves it in pristine condition should NOT be punished. I feel their goal is to rob people of their deposit And after reading several of their reviews I'm convinced I'm correct I'm my assumption. Which is not right, especially for good tenants. Where I am from that is not the way our property management companies work. I'm a licensed and reputable Realtor, I deal with property management companies on the daily in my hometown and this would have NEVER been an issue. Let me just start by saying I don't typically leave reviews. I am leaving them a rating of 2 stars, simply because they were great to work with while I was in my rental of two years. However, the problems began when I started the move out process. I had to pay a security deposit of $845 when I first moved in, $729.00 of which was returned to me upon moving out. The $116 that was kept was for "paint damage/wall repair". Very generic, not itemized or specific at all. During the time living there, I kept the home in immaculate condition; it looked more like a showhouse than a place that was lived in. It was an older home that had been remodeled, very hastily I might add, because corners were definitely cut with the paint jobs and tiling, among other things. There were numerous varying colors on the walls in shades of tan, as well as nail holes with nails from previous owners, that were never removed. My saving grace in all of this was TAKING PICTURES OF EVERYTHING! When I moved in, I took pictures of every single little thing, no matter how small, to reflect the exact condition of the home when I moved in. Upon moving out, I requested a move-out inspection which was completed with one of their employees. She was very nice during this process and told me I had nothing to worry about, she couldn't see me being charged much if anything (her quote was about $45),and stated more than once that the house looked great, better than majority of their properties. At no point was I shown their move-out form nor was I given any indication that I could fix possible damages or that there would be damages to fix! When I received my check for $116 under the full amount, I was upset! I wrote a letter to contest the charges with them, saying that I did not cause the damages they were referring to, and did not receive a response from their office other than I could fill out their complaint form and they would review it for a final decision. I called twice and wrote another letter to them demanding my deposit in full, telling them based on the receipt they provided I did not even know what to contest since it wasn't specific by any means. (Turns out it was for "damages" that were there when I moved in). When they did not return my deposit, I chose to sue them, not because $116 would make or break me, but because it was the principle of the matter. They were screwing me over and I knew it! Which leads me to, TENANTS KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AND DO YOUR RESEARCH! I consulted an attorney for free, research Idaho Attorney General laws regarding tenants/landlords, and referred to the Idaho Statutes (let me help you, statute 6-321), printed off pictures of my move in, and went to court. Long story short, I WON MY CASE and Five Star was required to pay me the remaining amount due. It still makes me mad that the employee who did move-in inspection with me knowingly lied about what she said to the Judge (she stated she never gave me an estimate which she and I and God all know that is a bold faced lie). He saw through it anyways and granted my suit, because the statement was neither itemized, there was nothing that made sense about it actually, and because I had pictures showing that the exact damages they took pictures of and said I caused, were issues that were already present at time of move in. For all of you on here that had the same issue as me, if you have pictures and proof of their statement, take them to court! What they are doing is wrong, and I'm sure I didn't even get it as bad as some of the other tenants out there, just because I barely lived in the home. Five Star, you were great while I lived there and for that I appreciate you! But you are shady with your move outs! And the additional check you remitted to me after I won the case, as an "unallocated credit" is also shady, since I am sure you are trying to charge the owner of the property for the civil suit you lost, under the guise of something it isn't. Change your move-out practices and start being honest and transparent with your tenants and owners and you may not have this issue in the future! Good luck! read more

When stuff goes wrong with your rental they are very quick to respond. They most definitely need more staff. Do not pay ur rent through their portal!!!! It froze my account then got an eviction notice while I was in the hospital because I could access my funds because of their portal popping up as a fraudulent access. Then they will tell you that you are responsible for rent and all utilities until they rent the place out. This company is greedy and terrible to rent from. Lets start off with the fee to do auto bill pay its somewhere around $50.00 a month which i obviously have refused to pay. The security deposit is outrageously high. After 1 year of renting, in which we have always been early on our rent we were given a notice that we can either stay month to month for a increase of $105.00 a MONTH or sign another year contract with an increase of $25.00. I was hoping to buy a home so another year is obviously not a great option for us. Ive had other problems that would take forever to explain. STAY AWAY FROM FIVE STAR PROPERTY MANAGEMENT IN POCATELLO, IDAHO. If I could, I would give them a zero! We are college students renting a duplex from them and it was the worst experience we could have imagined. To start out, we were having problems with bugs in the duplex and they told us that was our problem. We had to go and buy Home Defense and spray outside of the duplex. Not sure when that it is ever the tenants problem... especially when we share a building with four other apartments. Then, just like every other review on here, we were given 100 of our 700 dollar deposit back. The apartment was kept in great condition, we paid a professional carpet cleaner come and clean the carpets, we had five adults working to clean the home when we moved out. With five adults you would imagine that the apartment duplex was left pretty clean. To make them seem like the "good guys" they gave us a $250 credit for paint and wear and tear. Once we moved out, they sent us our security deposit statement and we were charged $630 for Paint and Labor Maintenance for a tiny apartment. There was no way that it added up. Then, we were charged for a final clean of $177. Since we did not take pictures of the property right before we moved out, we do not have evidence to dispute their charges. Any interaction where we had to go to their office was horrible. They were hard to get a hold of and we were always told that we had to take care of things ourselves. As a property management company, they do not manage any part of their buildings. Tenants are responsible for everything. They are solely there to scam people and make money. Had an appointment scheduled they said call 30 minutes prior. So I call 1 hour ahead and again 30 minutes prior no one answered .. .. I showed up after finally 10 minutes after my appointment was schedules a lady called me to confirm my appointment . So I should up drove 15 minutes across town to be there and she never showed or called .. called her to let he know I was there and she called said she was at another appointment already.. worst customer service ever. Called in the office someone finally answered at 11am and they stated we can reschedule we have been on the phones all morning .. ya no you were not .. no one was there in the office I checked and called .. so being lied to and not even offering to send another person to show the house that's awful service I wouldn't recommend this place let alone trust them with my money they might lose it and claim it's late or unpaid read more
